We stayed in the Cantina Fate and hadde the very best view of the Piano Grande, even more beautiful than from the taverna. Buffet breakfast as well as dinner are very good. And personal so friendly! Castellucio is a very small village and you should walk all over the place. But most important is to walk among the flowering fields...

We wanted to stay in Castellucio and this seemed the best option. When we arrived the room wasn't in the Taverna we had booked but a studio room further up the hill - so we'd been sub-contracted out! However, it was a high quality room and bathroom with a great view out across the grasslands plateau. the building was a...

We were there just one night during a Umbrian sightseeing trip on which we wanted to see the Piano Grande. The plateau reminded us most of travelling in Mongolia - an amazing wide open flat space surrounded by impressive mountains. Castelluccio is a fairly rustic settlement still but our room at the Taverna was quite a surprise (we were in...

Stayed in the new build apts. a short but steep walk from the main building . The bed was very comfortable and the building modern and comfortable in design. The bathroom was very modern and the shower powerful. There was a problem with the hot water for 1 day but it did get sorted. Food is included in the cost...

We rented the larger twin bed room in the Taverna Castellucio's Cascina delle Fate annex overlooking the Pian Piccolo section of the vast Piano Grande. We were very satisfied and in all respects, the experience exceeded our expectations. From the quick response to our initial email inquiry, to the friendly greeting, to the superb daily cleaning by Margerita, to the...

The best place to stay in Castelluccio! Been here twice in October. It's clean and has a good price. Perfect place for paragliding. Easy to check the weather around Castelluccio when you get up in the morning. Booking via mail is very easy and Peppe always finds a solution, even if you call him two hours before arrival.

We booked several months ahead since we were planning a hiking trip in the Sibillini. We were not disappointed, far from it! Although several B&Bs and small restaurants seem to have cropped up in Castelluccio, Taverna in my mind is the place to stay, and the place to eat too, thanks to a half-board option that you MUST enjoy. The...

We stayed 2 nights in a Cascina delle fate room which was clean and cosy - perfect for escaping the cool spring weather. Pepe (the owner) was welcoming and friendly and spoiled us in the restaurant. The lentil soup is incredibly delicious, along with the rest of the food. Castellucio was one of our favourite places we visited, although there...

Castelluccio is not exactly a huge tourist magnet, and I hope it stays that way. Some of the locals seem to think differently, and there has been an explosion of new albergos and b&b's since we last visited a few years ago. One can understand the impulse to find new sources of income, since this is clearly a poor region...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
CASTELLUCCIO DI NORCIACastelluccio di Norcia ( 1452m ) is also known as the Italian Mongolia due to its mountains. Situated in Umbria in the centre of Italy, it is one of the most precious jewels of the National Park of the Monti Sibillini. Famous for the great conditions to fly, it's also a great choise for those who love to walk, to ride in bicicle or in moto. Who loves horses will find on the Big Plane a ranch. Photographers, from the end of May until ( more or less ) the end of June/beggining of July, invade Castelluccio to see the natural and the infestant flowering ( +1000 species ). Another curiosity of this paradise is the Mergani, a depression in the end of the Big Plane. This depression had been in the past the scenary of scientific studies to know where the water depositated in its interior finishes. The answer is still unknown. One of the most popular destination is Monte Vettore ( 2476m ), the third highest mountain of the Appennini. The top is occupied by the Lake of Pilato ( called this way as the legend teaches that the body of Pilato may be found in the bottom of the lake ), permanent and the only house of Chirocefalo, a tiny red fish that exists only here. Our Hotel is divided in two structures. The Oldest is Taverna Castelluccio ( 1986 ), placed in front of the Lost Plane ( Marche/Umbria ). This structure is composed of 7 rooms ( 4 with panoramic view ), all ... more   less
