We had booked 2 villas apartments. The check in time was 17/18, as it most likely is to all of them. By arrival we needed to wait approx. 30 min before getting to the check in counter. I would expect this type of big hotel to be able to estimate how many guests are coming and to allocate more staff to the reception. Not a very relaxing start to the vacation.

The villas apartments were nice, clean and well equipped. Darkening curtains are needed to bedrooms though, since Finnish summer nights are very bright. Bring your own eye mask if you want to sleep in dark.

Well, exceptional times mean there wasnt really anyone in resort the 4 days we spent there. Which ofcourse suited us well. In the spa there was hardly anyone, one day actually asked how many, answer was 25 when we entered. Previous writer witnessed 150 persons in spa, which is hard to believe by the experience we had. Spa is ok, 2 water slides. Didnt try the ”Sauna world”. One eve unfortunately 2 drunken fat guys spoiling the atmosphere a bit, maybe better not go there saturday or friday eve. One eve forgot the cabins number after ordering the drinks by the pool. Went to ask our group the correct number, meanwhile waiter hid the 2 soft drinks and the beer under the her desk. It would have been polite if I had gotten the drinks and came back especially when there was only handful of people. (Outside Helsinki area the old protective attitude to alcohol is still there, not everyone is trying to trick a free bear, especially not a person with 2 kids, and no, its not the law...). The resort area is pretty big, hotel surrounded by several block houses and plenty of cabins or individual small holiday houses. We had very nice 2 bed room house and even if try I cant find anything to complain, the only thing is the small tv, which u cant connect Netflix to. Small thing.
Service was pleasant, plenty of room in the restaurants obviously as in the bowling. Walked one day to Imatra for a lunch, taxi back. Lunch cafe by the sea at least on weekends, nice
Gym is one thing that could be improved. It’s in the dead mall type of building which apparently never took off. There isnt any water tap that u can have cold water from (and yes, I did let it run for ages in order the luke warm turn to cold), please fix. The showers are laughable (attaching a photo) so go back to your room of cabin for a shower. The gym itself is ok and 3 day ticket for 8 eur cheap.
So alltogether nice short vacation, and even though Holiday Club is way too secretive for my taste, I feel a bit sorry for this resort and others now that the demand is heavily influnced by the covid.

I visited this hotel for a one night with my family. The overall expression is very positive although we used only small portion of the services.

The hotel and the apartments are located on a lakeside area little bit out of Imatra center. You have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to hotel rooms and apartments. Also there are many restaurants and other activities in the area, so I would assume you could easily spend here some days, maybe even a full week. This time, I assume, it was not too crowded so it was pretty nice, but in the worst holiday seasons I could image that there would be maybe too much people for my taste.

We stayed in a hotel room which was pretty new, clean, quiet and spacious. So no complains here. Spa area was nice, although mainly focused for keeping the children happy... for families, this is great, for couples maybe not. The spa area is quite big, but as mentioned, in the worst times, I would skip it... it is not big enough.

We had one dinner and breakfast in the area. Both were totally ok. Nothing spectacular, but did their job. During the breakfast you could partly feel what it could be when there are more people in the hotel.

I personally am not too much into to resorts like this and only stayed here as the location for this one night was best possible. However, I could image a family to stay here for multiple days.

Check in took 45 min, most of It outside (winter). Long ques To restaurants, kiosk selling snacks ran out of anything To eat at 7 pm. Option would have been To take a taxi To Imatra (no car, one way 25 e). Restaurants had take away possibility though
Max 30% of guests had face masks, hand desinfection bottles often empty.
Lady In the Spa was friendly and professional

Booked a 2 night stay for our family. They didn’t have a large enough room but on the phone told us that we could pay an extra 30€ for an extra child. In the room however there was no extra mattress, no extra blanket or pillows. We were told those weren’t included in the 30€.

The whole room looks like a bar trio to 1984 in terms of interior decoration, very old and plainly ugly. The rooms (“supreme”) are extremely basic, motel like, there aren’t even cups, let alone tea bags, only a few plastic mugs in the basic bathroom. Blankets, pillows etc are very old and lumpy and smelt mouldy, giving us headaches after one night. The temperature in the room can’t be regulated. The tv has no selection of channels, and a shocker I’ve never experienced anywhere, you have to pay 6€ extra a time if you want to use the internet. No chrome then service or anything for connecting your phone. Everything here costs extra, but the service is pitiful.

Food is not even worth mentioning, as cheap as it gets in terms of quality, but very pricey to buy. So they save every penny but charge exuberantly. Worst hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. Lunch and dinner options consist of two over priced chain restaurants that serve Finnish style “pizzas” (classic pizza) or over priced frozen food (O’Leary) that you would make at home on a night you didn’t have time to cook.

The pool area is not a spa. It’s a dim, dark loud place with pools (not large enough for swimming) with dozens of splashing people everywhere. So dark I wonder how many kids drowned unnoticed. Maybe it’s to hide how dirty it is, as cleanliness is not a forte here.

I would have more to say but I just want to forget this experience. Please don’t give them your money.

This resort is otherwise just about what you would expect from a family resort but our Villa room temperature was 30 degree celsius at night so sleeping was very restless. Would not go again during hot summer months, especially if you have small kids or elderly people with you. We had to buy a fan to survive, there were none available at the hotel. Otherwise the room was basically ok, the sofa bed is very hard to sleep on though. The water park is great, just be aware that there are lots of people during holiday seasons. Other activities, such as bowling, fat bike rentals, sup board rentals etc. are a great addition to your stay and there is a small beach for swimming as well. Ok restaurant options at the resort.

We stayed one night at the Holiday Club Saimaa. We had a castle room and the room was very large and super nice. The room was tidy and had A/C. The only downside was that the WC has slide doors, so the sound came through quite well.

We went to the water world and the sauna world. The place was surprisingly large with many activities for all ages from small kids to play in the water and jump to spa treatments and bars for adults. There was not many signs of covid19 measures, but I guess in a waterpark it is difficult to take safety measures.

There were in total of 4 restaurants/bars in the area. All kitchens close at 22, so make sure you do not miss that! We did unfortunately and had to order food from Seven Grilli, which was not as good as any of the local hotel restaurants would have been.

Just back from a Sat-Sun 2-day stay at Holiday Club Saimaa. Having two daughters (9 and 14) I thought it would be good to revisit this place again after 9 years or so.

At reception I was informed Angry Birds Park was closed on Sundays (genius idea closing a fun park at the weekend). So if you visit here do your Angry Birds visit on Saturday and arrive before 15 (check-in time) as AB Park closes at 17. Angry Birds Park hasn't changes one bit in 10 years... and like the hotel it's starting to show signs it needs a touch up. It's just getting a bit run down.

There's a building opposite the hotel that reminds me of some abandoned Russian building in Estonia and really needs teared down.

Classic Pizzeria in the hotel is really good nice pizza, just don't order the garlic bread as the bread is a pizza base covered in garlic butter and it's like eating a pizza base with garlic butter on it. Nothing wrong but after that you get another pizza base to chew on... a bit too much pizza base.

As with the hotel the spa is showing signs of age so at best I can only say this place is OK at best.

When I got home I had an email confirmation of my booking. It was a list of charges and fines if I smoked in the room they'd charge me 300 Euros to clean the room, if my dog pooped on their grass I'd get fined for that too... it was this email why I wrote the review.

Maybe Holiday Club Saimaa could review it's Confirmation/Welcoming letter to actually welcome it's guests and play down the list of fines!

We needed to stay in a hotel in Lappeenranta so we chose the Holiday Club Saimaa even that it was over 30km away from Lappeenranta. We wanted to enjoy the afternoons and evenings (during the day we had to do in Lappeenranta).
The room was average, actually "too average" for the price.
The area was fantastic, short walk to the lake with fantastic views.
But the hotel was too crowded. Breakfast you could not enjoy as it felt like in a youth hostel, and way too many people.
One evening we thought to go to the spa, as it is well recognized. It is however extra price, over 20EUR entrance. Luckily next to the spa reception there is a big panorama window where you can see the spa. It was so crowded that we would have barely fitted to stand somewhere in the water. So we withdraw that idea totally. Bar had a big queue, and restaurant also. We finally spent the evening disappointed in our room by watching television. Could have done that at home too.
So I would at least avoid this place during peak seasons.

Nice resort, nature and lake around it. Especially nice in autumn when forests are in autumn colors. Car is recommended because there is no good public transport stop near the hotel.
I used free walking-sticks every day to walk on different forest roads.
No food shop near hotel.

is the indoor pool seperate from the waterpark?
Answer from HolidayClubSaimaa
Lappeenranta, Finland
The indoor pool is located in the outside area of the waterpark. By buying the waterpark with your reservation, you have the ability to use the waterpark during the opening hours of the waterpark. There is no hourly time-limit in the water park usage.
