Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at Saimaanranta-cottage which was really nice, equipment well also. We rent a efatbike for a day, hiked another. Scenery around Saimaa Holiday club is amazing. Visited also Spa which was not crowded on November weekdays. Spa was ok ,not very big. We had breakfast two times and I loved it. Cottages are lovely place to stay as they provides kitchen, sauna, 2 toilettes, fireplace, balcony with grill.

We stayed two nights in a standard room with balcony. The room was not cleaned properly (chips and crumbs on the floor) and the sheets were stained. There are no blackout curtains, which is a big disappointment. I also don’t like paying extra for every single thing, like towels, bathrobes, slippers and gym. The spa is nice but very crowded with kids. One small customer left a little smelly thing in the pool and then the whole pool section was closed. Would have been nice if we had been offered a compensation as we didn’t get value for the money. However, the Saimaa lake area is very nice and scenic. There is a nice coffee house by the lake close by.

In a busy July week this place is like children's amusement park. Busy and loud. If you're looking for peace, quiet and relaxation, not easily available here. That being said, the situation is probably very different on a November or January weekday, our visit was during the busiest Finnish vacation month. Breakfast, busy and crowded. Dinner, you'll have to queue or book a table from the more expensive option. We had a room on the "castle" (not a castle really), an okay room, but some issues with the level of housekeeping and WiFi not great. Spa is loud, busy and targeted for children. The sauna world (separate fee) was very nice and more quiet. The beach and the outside grounds of the hotel are nice with pieces of history remaining. A nice cafe on the beach. Was tempted to rate this as two, but do realize that during a less busy time things might have been better. Also the staff handled our feedback well.

Superior room was average with no privacy due to the sliding glass door to the toilet. Toilet was also dirty with some stains on the wall and mirror. Tho bed was good and the spa area nice and clean. Be prepared to pay extra for EVERYTHING; slippers, bathrobe, saunas..

it was an ok hotel, but be prepared to pay for every little thing! an extra towel, no coffee in the room, pay for indoor pools, pay for towels. front desk nice, but not every helpful with any tourist ideas and plans. we had a 2 bedroom villa which was nice, but the doors to the porch would not lock. also there is no AC, which i didn't realize, but no fans either. very warm, which is not so great in the summer.

Lovely resort! The only issue we had, was that it was an extremely hot and humid week and no fans were provided. Asked reception but none were available. We had to go and buy 2 fans so that we could sleep and be in the unit itself.

Just back from a Sat-Sun 2-day stay at Holiday Club Saimaa. Having two daughters (9 and 14) I thought it would be good to revisit this place again after 9 years or so. At reception I was informed Angry Birds Park was closed on Sundays (genius idea closing a fun park at the weekend). So if you visit here do your Angry Birds visit on Saturday and arrive before 15 (check-in time) as AB Park closes at 17. Angry Birds Park hasn't changes one bit in 10 years... and like the hotel it's starting to show signs it needs a touch up. It's just getting a bit run down. There's a building opposite the hotel that reminds me of some abandoned Russian building in Estonia and really needs teared down. Classic Pizzeria in the hotel is really good nice pizza, just don't order the garlic bread as the bread is a pizza base covered in garlic butter and it's like eating a pizza base with garlic butter on it. Nothing wrong but after that you get another pizza base to chew on... a bit too much pizza base. As with the hotel the spa is showing signs of age so at best I can only say this place is OK at best. When I got home I had an email confirmation of my booking. It was a list of charges and fines if I smoked in the room they'd charge me 300 Euros to clean the room, if my dog pooped on their grass I'd get fined for that too... it was this email why I wrote the review. Maybe Holiday Club Saimaa could review it's Confirmation/Welcoming letter to actually welcome it's guests and play down the list of fines!

Booked a 2 night stay for our family. They didn’t have a large enough room but on the phone told us that we could pay an extra 30€ for an extra child. In the room however there was no extra mattress, no extra blanket or pillows. We were told those weren’t included in the 30€. The whole room looks like a bar trio to 1984 in terms of interior decoration, very old and plainly ugly. The rooms (“supreme”) are extremely basic, motel like, there aren’t even cups, let alone tea bags, only a few plastic mugs in the basic bathroom. Blankets, pillows etc are very old and lumpy and smelt mouldy, giving us headaches after one night. The temperature in the room can’t be regulated. The tv has no selection of channels, and a shocker I’ve never experienced anywhere, you have to pay 6€ extra a time if you want to use the internet. No chrome then service or anything for connecting your phone. Everything here costs extra, but the service is pitiful. Food is not even worth mentioning, as cheap as it gets in terms of quality, but very pricey to buy. So they save every penny but charge exuberantly. Worst hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. Lunch and dinner options consist of two over priced chain restaurants that serve Finnish style “pizzas” (classic pizza) or over priced frozen food (O’Leary) that you would make at home on a night you didn’t have time to cook. The pool area is not a spa. It’s a dim, dark loud place with pools (not large enough for swimming) with dozens of splashing people everywhere. So dark I wonder how many kids drowned unnoticed. Maybe it’s to hide how dirty it is, as cleanliness is not a forte here. I would have more to say but I just want to forget this experience. Please don’t give them your money.

It was a bit disappointing place as our expectations were quite high. Quite crowded place and lots of screaming and running children, so not very suitable for people seeking for relaxation. Quite pricey so it was surprising you still had to pay extra for the sauna world. And the sauna world was huge disappointment as one of the saunas was out of order, steam sauna had no steam at all and other saunas were quite ordinary. Architecturally this place is quite ordinary 2000's building, so nothing spectacular nor pretty there. The old castle hotel looks nice but new buildings kinda overshadows it, and old and new doesn't really match. And it's kinda weird that it's located near lake Saimaa but you cannot even see the lake anywhere from the spa.

We needed to stay in a hotel in Lappeenranta so we chose the Holiday Club Saimaa even that it was over 30km away from Lappeenranta. We wanted to enjoy the afternoons and evenings (during the day we had to do in Lappeenranta). The room was average, actually "too average" for the price. The area was fantastic, short walk to the lake with fantastic views. But the hotel was too crowded. Breakfast you could not enjoy as it felt like in a youth hostel, and way too many people. One evening we thought to go to the spa, as it is well recognized. It is however extra price, over 20EUR entrance. Luckily next to the spa reception there is a big panorama window where you can see the spa. It was so crowded that we would have barely fitted to stand somewhere in the water. So we withdraw that idea totally. Bar had a big queue, and restaurant also. We finally spent the evening disappointed in our room by watching television. Could have done that at home too. So I would at least avoid this place during peak seasons.
