We stayed in Kaz Mein Tiren. The kitchen is small, functional, and offers all amenities. There is a washer, which is great if you like to travel light and wash your clothes as you go, as we do.
Within a 5-10 min drive, you have access to great beaches, specialty shops (fruits, vegetables, seafood, and bakery).
Ti Kaz is the nearest of Brigitte's 3 properties to the main road. As others have mentioned, the cars on the road are audible, but the property sits steeply above the road with plenty of trees, plants and bushes in between so it was never an issue for us. The elevation up the hillside also helps provide a cracking view of the sea. We saw some awesome sunsets. One point to note, as soon as you turn off the main road to Rochers Caraibes, it is very steep to the point you might want to trade up your hire car to a more powerful one to be able to get up the hill. Anything above the smallest engine should be ok, and this woul generally be a good idea for the steep windy roads in basse terre.
It's only a couple of km into pointe noire but not really walkable safely due to lack of pavement and a few bends in the road. But it is a 5 minute walk down to the nearby beach. It's quiet during the week, and seems more popular with locals than tourists. It comes pleasantly alive at the weekend. There are a couple of diving schools and a couple of vans doing hot snacks as well as 3 or 4 restaurants/bars. In December, these were only open during the day. We did have dinner at the beach on Saturday and Sunday though and it was simple but good - at le Reflet.
Rochers Caraibe Ti Kaz has a nice cool indoor space with a small sitting area as well as a large comfy bed with mosquito net. There is good AC and also ceiling fans. Shower and bathroom all good, lovely decor throughout.
Kitchen is outside with decent fridge and a washing machine. There is a rack to dry clothes as well. Good outdoor space with covered dining table and good shading from the trees around the rest of the outdoor space where you can sit and lazily watch the birdlife go about their business. The hot tub is also very relaxing and welcoming after a day out. Just note though, because of all the shade, you might need to move slightly down the path to lie in the sun if that is your thing but it's no problem and still private.
Overall, a magical base for exploring deshaies and Sainte Rose to the north, or for heading south or up the route de traverser.
Highly recommended and Brigitte really looks after you. She offered us a later checkout because she knew our flight was much later which was very kind.
Top marks!
Brigitte was welcoming and very helpful, giving us pointers for places to go and tour operators to use. She provided breakfast for the first morning and the ingredients to make ti punch, which was very welcome as we arrived quite late in the evening. There’s also a folder of information and things to do which we found very useful.
We loved feeding the birds in the morning - there are bird feeders in the garden and you can feed them with cane sugar. In the evenings we enjoyed watching the sunset over the ocean with a ti punch. We saw an iguana and toad in the garden too.
It’s a short walk down to Anse Caraibe, a small stony bay with a handful of restaurants, food trucks and watersports operators. We found the restaurant opening hours to be intermittent/weather dependent, but when they were open the food was good.
There’s a good boulangerie in Pointe Noir with a small Carrefour supermarket next door for essentials. Brigitte pointed us in the direction of a great grocers - Marylin to the south of Malendure - worth the drive for the much better quality fruit and vegetables. There’s also a Cap Creole shop in the same area which did fantastic smoked fish.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Rocher Caraïbes and would definitely recommend it as a great place to stay. Thanks Brigitte for your hospitality!
Our main interests were in hiking, snorkelling and (in my case) diving - and this was a great base for all three. The bay just below Rochers Caraibes (five minutes' walk away) is great for snorkelling (best to explore near the rocky areas at the northern end of the beach); and there is also a dive centre there.
Brigitte gave us a huge amount of information to help us make the most of our stay, and was very helpful and friendly throughout. We wouldn't hesitate to go back!
The place had everything you might need - a very well appointed kitchen, washing machine, air conditioner in the bedroom, towels, citronella candles, games and books...
Brigitte was very helpful in arranging meals and trips for us, including a wonderful snorkeling trip with An Ba Dlola to the Jacques Cousteau Reserve. Rochers Caraibe is also with a 5-30 minutes drive of Le Maison du Cacao, Deshaies and it's nearby beaches (Anse de la Perle, Grand Anse), and the hiking trails along the Route de Traversée. Do hire Fulberte, the cook recommended by Brigitte. She prepared and delivered dinners to us several evenings and cooks terrific local dishes.
We enjoyed the hot tub every evening with the frogs chirping and every morning with the birds and sunshine.
We cooked in a number of evenings after long busy days of adventure and really enjoyed the open air -cozy villa. We experienced next to no bugs!
Brigitte was very welcoming and i feel she would have done anything for us if we asked. We had very little to ask for because the villa was so complete. She was so sweet she even gave us a bottle of champagne for new years eve!
"For a special treat Fulberte prepares wonderful meals and brings them right to your table. Be sure to ask Brigitte about that!"Read full review
