Detailed Reviews
We spent 8 very comfortable nights in La Trace du Contrebandier. Olivier and Renaud have thought of everything in terms of design and functionality : a well equipped kitchen, plenty of comfortable seating, a large bed with an excellent mosquito net and all so imaginatively designed. It is one of the nicest gites we have stayed in.
The setting is very secluded, in a tropical garden with some wonderful trees. We were not bothered by road noise and La Trace de Contrebandier is very private; you are not aware of the other units. Parking is easy and close by - which we appreciated when it rained!
Pointe Noire itself is a 5 minute drive or a 25 minute walk. There are plenty of shops and restaurants. However, Olivier and Renaud also propose meals from one of the local caterers which they deliver to your fridge during the day. These were very good and we had such a nice terrace that we were happy to take advantage of them.
Highly recommended!

We had such an amazing 4 night stay at West Indies Cottage !
The place is spectacular, with a few huts in the trees, a great lagoon pool and a remarkable windmill. Everything is conceived and designed in sync with the surrounding nature and you can hear birds singing all day (and all night) long. The room we slept in (the windmill) was well decorated, perfectly clean and fully equipped with a private jacuzzi at the edge of the forest.
As for Olivier and Renaud, they are the best hosts, very thoughtful and friendly. They helped us organizing our trip in Basse-Terre and their recommendations were always spot on. Truly one of the greatest guesthouse I've visited so far. Thank you again guys for having us!

It has been a fantastic stay at West Indies Cottage. Olivier is a great host and took care of all our requests immediately. The place is gorgeous and well protected - a true oasis of relaxation at an already stunning location.
It is definitely recommended to go by car in order to get around the island conveniently and take advantage of all the beautiful spots in the surroundings.
We would definitely visit again!

The moment we arrived in West-Indies, we immediately fell in love. Behind the high-gate we discovered a hidden gem! Beautiful exotic gardens in the middle of the rainforest of Pointe-Noire. We stayed in the Tiki, a wooden perched cabin with pool view and a double room looking over the jungle. Wow! The decoration used in & outside the cabin was so beautiful.

A true paradise!
We had a wonderful time at the pirates hut. It's very private, you can open up a large part of the cabin, the sounds of the forest are magical and even when it rains it's a cosy place to stay.
The garden is beautiful beyond words. Lovely swimming pool, lots of birds and spectaculair trees and plants.
And not to forget the owners Renaud and Olivier; very friendly and helpful. They make you feel at home right away.

amazing design, absolutely delightful hosts, they care so much about our well-being, they made the trip even more beautiful. everything was clean, the outdoor was amazing and so peaceful, very secured for the children and enough privacy in every hut. the sliding door into nature was just outrageously wonderful. would highly recommend and happily return.

Perfect place for couples or families.
Accomodation was cosy and comfortable with fully equipped kitchen and private jacuzzi. Place itself is beautiful and you feel like living in the botanic garden. Very well maintained. Last but not least very helpful and friendly hosts! Simply nothing to complain and we will surely return to your place in the future :)

Very nice stay in a relaxing environment. We loved the hosts! We booked very last minute but Olivier made sure that everything was perfectly arranged. The kids loved the cats and there were even tears when we had to leave.. Would definitely recommend and we would love to come back some time.

Guadeloupe is something of a mixed bag, but these phenomenal cottages won't disappoint. Beautifully located on the edge of the jungle of Guadeloupe's better half, all the west indies dream "gittes" offer quirky and classy accommodations for a great price.
Me and my fiancee had the mini villa at the pond (the carbet), which was so classy I felt like Ian Fleming on his Jamaica estate. Added extras: an open air kitchen, a pirana in the pool, a mock alligator and a flirty housecat. Excellent stuff, we won't forget this quickly.

This property in the rain forrest near Point Noire is really just so lovely. Lovelier still are hosts Renaud and Olivier - who are welcoming, charming, funny and beyond thoughtful.
We arrived quite late (10 PM) and knowing we wouldn't have a chance to eat between airport and property, they made sure to have a hot meal waiting for us. They kept it warm and brought it to our cottage once we got settled. Renaud's homemade banana fritters are amazing! With advance notice I believe any food or beverages you want could be supplied - so you wouldn't necessarily have to cook or go out if you preferred to hang in and enjoy your cottage. (We celebrated a birthday and the cake they sourced was among the best we've ever had.)
That said Renaud and Olivier had tons of great recommendations for places to eat and things to do and how best to get there!
Our hosts checked in with us regularly and provided a HEROIC level of care after we had a minor but upsetting car crash. They helped us calm down, communicate with the rental company, and even wrapped up the broken window while we were out for the day. It was a level of kindness and service that is so incredibly special and rare! Our time here felt much more like a visit with "framily" than a hotel stay.
West Indies Cottage actually has several themed cottages - like a pirate hut and windmill. All are thoughtfully appointed open air structures (except for the windmill) with efficiency kitchens. We stayed in the larger cottage with a spacious outdoor common room by the pond which slept 5.
The property is indeed in the rainforest within the interior national park. So depending on the season you may have steady mist at the cottage (which keeps things cool - great for sleeping!), full blazing sun down at the beach, and a steady rain up on the peaks. They do a great job taking advantage of the stunning natural environment that surrounds the place, with just enough fruit trees and strategically placed plantings to provide fresh ingredients, atmosphere and privacy between the cottages.
Because West Indies Cottage embraces it's natural setting there are no TVs in the cottages. You will also have to drive the 5 minutes into the town of Pointe Noire for a cell signal and cooking supplies. While there is WIFI on the property, the signal may not reach to your cottage - it didn't reach ours (Carbet/Smuggler). If in-room WIFI is something you require, double check with the Renaud & Olivier so they may house you where the signal is best.

Yes, they have airco in de bedrooms.
In the carbet ; it was very quiet. I think this would also be in the other rooms.
There's only one airport Pôle Caraïbe. We can pick u up at the airport to bring you directly at West Indies Cottage.
Catherine P.
Of course there are mosquitos, be aware, protect yourself, there are mosquito nets in the bedroom, have a lovely stay!
