We stayed the last two days in the beautiful house right in the jungle. Irene pointed out where the monkeys, iguana, sloths and other wildlife roam. We had a big, clean room, with a comfortable bed. The hammock on the terrace was great for listening to the jungle sounds and watch the monkeys play. The beach and shops are a...

Loved it here. Our hosts built the lodge from the ground up over a period of years and they are rightfully very proud of it. Irene was quickly aware we were nature lovers and every time we got back from a hike she had found something else to show us. Finally got to observe the Black Mandibled and Keel Billed...

El Tucan Jungle Lodge is not only a gem in that it is located smack in the middle of the Costa Rican rain forest, yet still close to the Caribbean shore, it also boasts two of the most wonderful Hosts along the Central America's tropical coastline. Irene and Wolfgang went above and beyond to make sure that we felt right...

This has to be one of my favorite places to stay in CR. Irene and Wolfgang have built an amazing Jungle get away. Jungle yes but less than a Kilometer away is Cocles Beach. Get the best of both worlds in one very reasonably priced lodge. Irene is a born wildlife guide. There were 3 sloths and an iguana in...

Great lodge in the middle of the jungle. You leave your room, 1m in front of you is a hammock, 1m more and you are practically in the forest with spiders, sloths, monkeys etc. The rooms that were built by the owners are clean and beautiful with the occasional frog or gecko sitting on the wall. We love listening to...

I had a nice, wonderful week at the end of November 2015 in the heart of the jungle. This place is amazing. Seen a lot of animals from the comfort of my hammock, from sloths to eyelash vipers, geckos and frogs. Irene and Wolfgang are very welcoming, very friendly and were always happy to answer my questions regarding activities I...

Very nice place, in the middle of the jungle. Irene and Wolfgang with all their animals (dogs, gooses etc.) were very friendly and helpful. In this place could even see more wild animals than in some national parks. We saw sloths, tucans, monkeys etc. from our own terrace. I really loved that place, even trip to to village has about...

Helene and I stayed at the El Toucan Jungle Lodge Jan 17-23, 2015. Very personal accommodation with 2 building with 2 cabins each and the main building that the proprietors live in. The shared balcony faces the jungle. Rooms very comfortable with attached bathrooms. Suicide showers of course! They work very well. Irene and Wolf were tremendous hosts. $50 a...

Spectacular immersion into the one of the last remaining primary forests in Costa Rica. My wife, myself and my father spent a night here at the beginning of July. We all agreed that we wished to have known about this place earlier we would have stayed here during are whole trip in Puerto Viejo. The owner was fantastic with us,...

El Tucan Jungle Lodge is a paradise for bird lovers and people who want to enjoy the tropical flora and fauna in a relaxed atmosphere What makes us different from other accommodation that is close proximity to nature: The bungalows are surrounded by jungle and sloths, toucans, iguanas and colorful butterflies can often be detected even from the hammock. We offer stylish living in wooden bungalows on the banks of the Rio Cano Negro surrounded by the unparalleled serenity of nature. Our cozy rooms (4m x 4m) are equipped with one or two double beds, equipped with ceiling fan, mosquito net and private bathroom and have a spacious terrace with hammock, table and chairs and views of the river. Our "El Tucan Jungle Lodge" located in Cocles - 4 km away from Puerto Viejo - and is 1 km off the main road. The 2-hectare site and its surroundings are ideal for walking and exploring, where you can discover howler monkeys, parrots, river turtles and colorful frogs. But the "civilization" is within reach: Of all the rooms have Wi-Fi access. A well stocked supermarket is 1 km away and several restaurants are within 1-2 km. For guests who are not traveling by car, Bike hire (U.S. $ 5 per day) available. There is a regular bus service to the surrounding area and to San Jose. In addition, we can at any time call a taxi. “I believe there are only 6 cabinas to choose from. We stayed in #2 and had no problems. Just be aware that they are open air cabinas and it does get humid and can be nearly impossible to dry clothes- so bring extras. But despite the humidity it is WELL WORTH it for the experience of being in a living, breathing, SINGING jungle!”
