We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ellerton and were quite sad to leave. The hotel has a lovely intimate feel to it and is in a wonderful setting with great views from the terrace, the perfect place to watch the sun set. Our beautiful room was huge, spotlessly clean and we'll equipped. The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing...

We had 2 nights here. The owners were away but the service from the staff was nevertheless excellent. Previous reviews have criticised the staff when unsupervised but we never felt that at all, although we would have liked to meet the owners. The room, the lounges and the covered seating areas on the terrace were very comfortable and the scenery...

I wish that Cary and I were able to spend more time at Ellerton rather than splitting it approximately 50/50 between Ellerton and our farm in Herefordshire, particularly with the rather miserable UK weather at the moment! For what it is worth, I can say that we never use a mosquito net at Ellerton, and have never felt the need,...

We stayed two nights here while touring the island. The location is spectacular and accommodation in the main house is pleasant, without being luxurious or ultra modern. Staff were accommodating and friendly, with the exception of the meet and greet staff who were downright miserable - bad day at the office?? Excellent swimming pool in lovely gardens. Dining in the...

We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay, and Nissanka, our principal chef feels very flattered about your comments. My personal, and of course biased, view is that there are unlikely to be other hotels in Sri Lanka offering passionfruit souffles! However, I am sorry that our staff seemed miserable when you arrived – having been visiting Sri Lanka for...

Travelling to Ellerton in the dark over rough roads was an interesting introduction. An intimate little bungalow with garden rooms overlooking a spectacular view, this place is meticulously presented. The food, both breakfast and dinner was tasty and the service friendly and attentive. The owners are British and this was evident in the decor and information provided to guests, even...

Ellerton occupies a lovely elevated position, accessed by an extremely bumpy road which is apparently now under construction. It has lovely views and nice gardens, full of birds and other wildlife. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Those are the positives. On the negative side, it seems that this was once an elegant place to stay but it really needs...

It is obviously very disappointing to read a review indicating that one of our guests was not completely happy with their stay at Ellerton, although there were clearly various aspects which she appreciated. It is difficult to comment on her subjective criticism of llinen/bathrobes,but it is interesting that the subsequent reviewer said that Ellerton was "immaculately presented". However, to respond...

We loved this hotel. Intimate, warm and welcoming and in the most spectacular of locations. The room was reasonably spacious and comfortable with a large bed. The bathroom was beautifully designed and, whilst not luxurious, had everything we needed. The gardens were full of the most beautiful flowers and birds. The staff, as with everywhere in Sri Lanka, were very friendly,...

We stayed here for three nights while visiting the tourist attractions of Kandy, from which it was a welcome respite, and were fortunate to stay in one of the Garden Suites from which the views across the valley were stunning. We were lucky enough to see a couple of gorgeous sunsets, and unlucky enough to have a rainy day, but...

My wife and I had two nights at Ellerton staying in one of the garden suites. The room was really comfortable although we had no need of the mosquito netting surrounding the bed. We found the quality of the food and prompt service was a delight having had some rather indifferent treatment whilst previously staying in the Negombo area. Having...

The long climb from the main road up a very bumpy, winding track, for which our driver constantly apologised, was rewarded by the warm welcome which we received from the staff. Our room was very spacious and comfortable with lovely views. Food was good and an added bonus were the drinks which came as part of our package. Staff were...

We arrived at this hotel after three days touring the archaeological triangle. The road up was a lot easier than earlier reviewers have stated. Arrived at this beautiful spacious colonial villa, walked though the lounge , to our room. We had one of the garden chalets with wonderful views down the valley to Kandy . Our stay here was delightful,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ellerton is a fine old tea-estate bungalow where our aim is to give you the feeling you are staying in a friend's house and not a hotel. We deliberately lack many of the features associated with hotels but these are more than compensated for by a genuinely relaxed and informal atmosphere. ... more   less
