At the Northern Lights Village Pyhä, guests are often captivated by the comfort and modernity of the rooms, which feature heated glass roofs and private saunas perfect for aurora watching. While some travelers feel the prices are steep, particularly for certain activities, the cozy atmosphere with its stylish touches and stunning lake views near the resort consistently impress.

This was an amazing, unforgettable family experience and one I’d highly recommend.
We booked over a year ago via an independent travel counsellor, as I had no idea where to begin booking a northern lights trip for our family of 3. We originally looked at Norway, but she suggested Lapland as the accommodation offered more comfort for a family with children. As it was for my 40th birthday, we wanted somewhere luxurious with different options for excursions. She introduced us to the Northern Lights Village and this one in Pyha seemed the most suitable for us. We booked the 3 night Aurora hunting package, which offered full board and lots of excursions, including snowmobile safari and a husky sled ride.
The village is about 90 mins from Rovaniemi airport and is very stylish and well laid out. Snowsuits, boots, gloves and any additional gear for activities are provided. The buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner were delicious with plenty of options for everyone and the restaurant is stylish, large and contemporary. We stayed in an Aurora suite cabin, which included a private sauna. The large king bed underneath the heated igloo windows was such an amazing feature, with plenty of room in the living room behind for our son to sleep in the converted double sofa bed.
We had several excursions, including a trip to the Saariselka village for snowmobiles and husky rides, as the snow wasn’t quite deep enough in Pyha (although it snowed so heavily on our trip that on our leaving day excursions were back on at Pyha). The guides on the excursions were fantastic and really went out of their way to give my family an amazing experience. The highlight was the Aurora in the Wilderness trip where was saw the northern lights! Transfers were also in modern, comfortable private mini buses or coaches. Be mindful that if you travel in December you’ll be sharing your holiday with lots of very young children who are there to see Santa. Our son is 11 and too old for all that now sadly, but if you’re a couple or group of friends, you might find it quieter to go in January!
I highly recommend the Northern Lights Village at Pyha, whether it’s your first winter trip or you’re a seasoned winter sports enthusiast. There is something for everyone here.

We stayed there for 2 nights with half board - the food was always enough at the buffet and there was something for everyone. The desserts were very tasty - raspberry cake, crème brulee,... The rooms are also very modern & you feel comfortable - we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights - the alarm on the hotel tablet in the room also went off to warn people for them Waking up lights - a great experience! You can also book many activities through the hotel - very family friendly. The lake is right across the street and the ski slopes can also be reached quickly by car. Any time!

This holiday was all we could’ve asked for and more.
When we arrived, the reception staff were very helpful with checking us in and giving us our itinerary for our stay. We were able to check in early due to our Aurora Suite being ready. However, it was very difficult to find our cabin in the dark and we had to lug our luggage through the snow as we weren’t aware until the end of our trip that there were sledges and that you could pay €5 for luggage collection.
The cabin was absolutely incredible. We stayed in a suite and it was worth the money for extra space and the sauna! The cabin temperature could be adjusted and the bathroom floors were heated. The bed was very comfy and being able to lie in bed and see the Northern Lights through the window was amazing. There is also a button to clear all the snow off the roof. There are curtains at the bottom of the window to keep it a bit more private but one way privacy glass would be good for the large window. A slight criticism is that you have to ask for your room to be cleaned through the tablet and it isn’t just done every day as you would normally expect.
The food is a buffet and it is exactly as is stated on the menu online. It’s home cooked and hearty food which was needed after being in the snow! We would’ve preferred a larger choice and you had to ask for the food to be topped up and it would have been nice for soft drinks to be included in your meal and not having to pay extra for these.
The activities were out of this world. We were given all the proper gear (snowsuits, boots, mittens, balaclavas) and were recommended on exactly what to wear. A special mention some of the guides for being fantastic and going over and beyond - Lucy, Ari, Botti and Anastasia. They had so much knowledge on their activities and made sure we got the most out of our experiences. The guys on the husky ride were also incredible and gave me their gloves when I couldn’t feel my fingers - definitely warm up more for that! I would recommend booking at least 2 activities every day to keep yourselves busy as there is not much to do otherwise in the resort. You are able to go for a walk to the lake, go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing without a guide. You can take a taxi to the nearby town of Pyha where there is a ski slope but this was €30 each way for a 10 minute journey so just beware of this.
The only activity that didn’t live up to our standard was hunting for the Aurora by heated sleigh. This sleigh was not fully heated so we were still cold and we did not stop at all to see the northern lights. When we got to the hut, it took ages to get a fire going and then we were all frozen so ended up going back early. However, I have spoken to other guests and they said they had a fantastic time on this on different days so it was just a one off. We weren’t happy at all with this activity and it didn’t live up to the other activities and Reetta at Reception very helpfully sorted it out for us.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday & we didn’t want to leave!

Magnificent experience, the village is new, modern and well maintained and allows in a couple of days to try all the experiences you imagine to do in Lapland. The transfer from the airport of Rovaniemi is very convenient and on the way back, at our request, dropped us directly at Santa Claus' village. We took an Aurora cabin package that already included reindeer sledging and husky safaris, to which we added sauna and snowmobile aurora hunting. All the excursions were well organized, with right times between them to rest. The only negative note, the sauna I had booked for our arrival was moved to the next day without any warning or reason, despite having asked several times for confirmation. It would also be nice if they allowed time to spend with free reindeer, as they do in other NLVs. Husky safari was our favorite experience, unfortunately there were no puppies to pet there either. The sauna & hot tub experience still deserves, even if an hour is short. The guy who took us snowmobiling was great, we were fascinated to hear his stories around the fire! The cabin is gorgeous, the fireplace at the foot of the bed makes a unique atmosphere, just be careful that from the outside you can see everything! On the other hand, the app that signals the aurora allowed us to see it. The buffet was quite varied, we liked everything. To do if you want to move a short distance from Rovaniemi to live a more authentic experience.

From the welcoming check-in process right through to the ending check-out this resort hotel was an absolute delight. Such welcoming staff throughout from reception, bar staff and waiting staff to the guides and staff at the safari house, they were patient, informative and super helpful too. The food (included in the package we bought) was served buffet style and never failed to delight. The selection was very varied and it was all super tasty, fresh and delicious. We stayed in an Aurora cabin which was spotless and well appointed. Sleeping under the beautiful Finnish sky was a delight that we never tired of. We packed a lot into our three night stay - and the resort provided us with everything we needed clothing, footwear, headgear and equipment - all were of a very high quality and super efficient at keeping us warm and safe. Special mention has to go to Boty for our evening Aurora hunting expedition and our snowmobiling morning, he’s a delightful person to spend time with and we felt very safe in his expert guidance. Thanks also to Ari (sorry if not spelled correctly) who took us out on the evening heated sleigh experience - we could have sat listening to his tales of Sami life and its culture in that Cotta all night, he was entertaining and very informative, a true gentle man. Thanks to Marko for the photography tips and the heated sleigh experience - you were very kind, super helpful and clearly very knowledgeable. Lastly thanks to Dani and Mira for our first evening’s walk through the forest on snowshoes- what an event that was - AND we got to see the Aurora on that evening (as well as the following night) - truly magical and we felt very lucky that we got to see them. The only (extremely slight and hardly worth mentioning) points that the resort could improve on was perhaps a few more hooks in the cabins to hang towels or clothing up to dry, and perhaps invest in a more robust toaster because the very small four slice toaster at the buffet with only two slots working meant a queue building up for toast at breakfast time. I only mention these because the resort asks for all feedback so hope this is helpful :) We had the very best experience at this resort hotel and have recommended it to everyone we know who might like to experience life above the Arctic Circle because it was a magical trip made even better by the place we stayed and the people we met - a heartfelt and huge thank you.

We booked a 3-night stay at the Northern Lights Village in Pyhä, and it exceeded our expectations. The cabins were perfect—well-equipped with everything you need to enjoy the aurora experience, including a heated glass roof above the bed for stargazing. The staff were exceptional—friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating at all hours. Despite our delayed flight arriving at 4:30 am, they made the process seamless, skipping administrative tasks, delivering our luggage to the cabin, and personally driving us there so we could rest and focus on our itinerary after breakfast.
The weather was not typical of the season, with the usual meter of snow missing, which led to a few swapped experiences. However, the clear skies gifted us the northern lights on two out of three nights. The equipment provided by the resort was top-notch, keeping us comfortable for all activities, whether walking around the grounds or on excursions. The only minor issue was a limited supply of UK ladies’ size 8 boots, but we had brought our own, so it wasn’t a problem.
We also enjoyed a fantastic massage, although it’s worth noting that there are no options for hot stone or aromatherapy treatments, and you cannot choose between a male or female masseuse—something other travelers may wish to consider. The spa experience, including the sauna and outdoor hot tub, was incredible. Sitting in 40°C water surrounded by snow-dusted trees in -14°C temperatures was both relaxing and invigorating.
The guides truly made our trip unforgettable. We booked a mix of small group and private excursions (reindeer safari, husky farm, national park hike, aurora hunting and private dining by the lake), and George, Dan, and Oscar were outstanding hosts. Their driving skills, culinary talents, knowledge and deep passion for Finland and its culture made each excursion immersive and memorable.
There are a few areas where the resort could improve. A regular transfer to the nearby village would be a welcome addition, as would a souvenir shop offering traditional Finnish items like the kuksa (a wooden drinking cup traditionally gifted to others for good luck) and cuddly toy moose, reindeer, or husky dogs for children. While some of these can be purchased at the airport, having them onsite would enhance the experience. The buffet offered a good selection and was suitable for the environment, meeting expectations for this type of resort.
Overall, the Northern Lights Village in Pyhä delivered a fantastic experience, blending comfort, adventure, and exceptional service in a breathtaking setting.

We had a wonderful time exploring Pyhä and Northern Finland, but unfortunately, our experience at Northern Lights Village Pyhä was let down by several issues: 1. Room Check-In Delay: Upon arrival, we encountered a problem with our room, but were given no clear information or realistic timescale. What we initially thought would be a 30–45 minute wait turned into a 6-hour ordeal in the lobby with two young children, following a 2:30 AM start in London. More transparency and effort would have helped—we could have unpacked and started enjoying our holiday if we’d known it would take that long. As compensation, the manager, Laszlo, offered to cover drinks while we waited, but this amounted to just two drinks each, which felt insufficient given the circumstances and lack of communication. 2. Inaccessible Front Desk: Once in the igloo, there’s no way to contact the front desk. The chat function on the provided web link doesn’t work, there are no phones or WhatsApp options, and emails went unanswered. This felt like a safety concern—any issue would require walking outside in -30°C temperatures to the lobby. While our problem was minor (requesting dry towels), the lack of contact options is worrying. 3. Lost Personal Belongings: Our room was cleaned only once during our stay, but unfortunately, the cleaner mistakenly discarded a bag of clothes worth ~£100. When we reported this to reception, the response was indifferent. We escalated the issue to Laszlo, who informed us the bag couldn’t be found, offered no apology or compensation, and simply shrugged it off. This lack of accountability was disappointing, especially considering the items could have been more valuable. 4. Unlabelled Buffet Items: The buffet lacked labels for items, especially in the central salad section. There was no indication of dietary considerations (e.g., vegan, vegetarian, seafood) or potential allergens like nuts. This seemed careless and could pose serious safety risks.
After these issues—especially the long wait for our room and the lost clothing—we discussed compensation with Laszlo. He initially offered a hot tub and children’s snowmobiling experience, but as these were already included in our package, we requested an alternative. He agreed to swap these for a standard snowmobiling trip during our day in Saariselkä and assured us it would not appear on our bill. However, at checkout, Laszlo was unavailable, and the snowmobiling charge was added. Reception insisted we pay and promised reimbursement, which has not materialized despite my follow-ups. Laszlo later denied offering the snowmobiling experience, though he acknowledged the original hot tub and children’s snowmobiling offer. Despite our explanations, we’ve received no resolution or communication since.
Advice: If you’re staying here, make sure to document all agreements in writing, as verbal commitments may not be honored.
It’s a shame, as we truly enjoyed other aspects of our trip, but these issues significantly impacted our experience at the Northern Lights Village Pyhä.

It's hard to know how to write about our adventure well enough to do the resort justice. Ever since honeymooning in Lapland 11 years ago we had dreamed of one day taking our own children. Finally we've done it (our children are 8 & 6) and it was incredible!
For starters, it was around £3,000 cheaper than we expected, so it's well worth investigating, even if you assume it'll be out of your price range.
Comms beforehand were really reassuring. We were never made to feel that a question was too daft and the resort organised transfers from the airport worked without any hitch.
At the resort we were staying in one of the Tiaiga Forest cabins. These were stunning and had the advantage of two bedrooms, meaning that once the children went to bed we were still able to stay up and chat or watch a film. The private sauna in our cabin was beautiful too and such a treat when coming in from the cold.
In terms of activities, we did the 2hr husky trek, 2hr snow mobile safari, 30 mins kids snow mobile and snow shoeing with ice fishing. All of these were incredible experiences with experienced, professional and friendly guides. We loved getting to know them all and they interacted extremely well with our children. One big selling point is that the sledge the children travelled in whilst the grown ups snow mobiled was heated and they adored it. We definitely felt grateful when we watched another resort turn up with an open top one when the air temperature was -20°C!
It's also worth noting that the clothing provided, all of the equipment for activities and the vehicles for getting around were of an extremely high standard. We were very sad to give back our snow suits at the end!
The main building at the centre of the resort where the reception, dining room and bar were, looked beautiful and we loved being in there. The food was incredible, a lovely wide range, including a children's option. Our children actually enjoyed a mix of the children's food and the grown up options. Most of all they adored being able to puruse the buffet and help themselves. All of the staff were wonderful and took a real interest in ensuring that we were all having a great time.
I honestly can't praise this resort highly enough. We had the very best trip of a lifetime and seriously wish we could come back every year! Our 6yr old was particularly devastated when we left and has informed me that he will be moving to Lapland in the future!

I recently stayed at Northern Lights Village in Pyhä, and overall, it was a fantastic experience. The highlight of my trip was, without a doubt, witnessing the auroras right from my cabin, which made the stay truly magical. The resort is in a beautiful location, and there's even a lake nearby, which is a great spot for northern lights viewing on clear nights. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful throughout my stay, always making sure guests had everything they needed. The cleaning service was excellent, and the cabins were kept in great condition, making the experience comfortable and enjoyable. If you're looking for adventure, I highly recommend the 4-hour snowmobile safari in the morning— it was an absolute blast! Our lovely guide Vivian, made the experience even more exciting, we owe her thanks for the nice interactions we had. The only downside was the food, which, while decent, felt a bit repetitive and could have been better in terms of variety. That being said, the overall experience more than made up for it. If you're looking for a unique and memorable way to experience Lapland and the northern lights, Northern Lights Village in Pyhä is a great choice!

We have recently returned from a 3 night break to this beautiful resort, and cannot speak highly enough of our experience. We found our igloo cozy and with plenty of amenities, and slept incredibly well throughout our stay. The instructions on how to use the heated window were clear, and the toiletries were great quality.
Our transfer to the resort from Rovaniemi airport was seamless, and we were lucky enough to see reindeer walking on the side of the road. We were welcomed by friendly and knowledgable staff at reception who let us go to our cabin early as it was ready. They also gave us our itinerary of activities and explained where we should meet.
The safari hut where we got our equipment from had helpful staff and provided a first rate service throughout. We enjoyed a snow mobile safari, private meal and heated sleigh ride, reindeer safari, massage, snow shoeing and sauna during our stay, and would cheerfully recommend any of the activities. All of the activity leaders we met were knowledgeable, helpful, and engaging. We especially enjoyed having the chance to talk to two guides who were from Lapland and explained so much to us about the way life is in their beautiful part of the world.
The food was first rate throughout our stay. The variety was great, and there were lots of healthy choices as well as treats. The waiting staff were all welcoming and helpful, making the experience all the more enjoyable.
We cannot wait to come back to beautiful Pyha, and to this lovely resort. Thank you for a dream holiday.
