Porras tannery is located by small river in the village of Porras. This is real local experience if you want to have a small escape in the Finnish countryside. The garden, small river and so nice little bridge are like from other world or from the history. The story of the house and the family is really interesting. In the main building there is restaurant with good local food and the tannery museum. The museum and the story of the whole house is really interesting. There is dark in the museum and it is like traveling back in time. The B&B rooms are nice, clean and cozy. And there is sauna in the same building.
This little gem is a fantastic find! Rustic in feel but with all the mod cons. Peaceful setting, lovely sauna and swimming in the river running through the property, incredibly friendly and helpful owners, and a fascinating small museum showing the history of the historic tannery that used to run on the property. Highly highly recommend!
Nahkurinverstas - the leather crafters workshop- is really lovely and historical place in the middle of a small idyllic countryside village. The buildings are old, the rooms are cozy and unique -like at grandmother's. Breakfast was superb with hand made fresh buns and sauna that was heated for us was totally amazing! Service was very friendly and we felt like at home. The leather crafters workshop museum was very special and also in the surroundings there are quite some interesting things to explore -both cultural and nature places. I definitely recommend this place for some countryside romantic destination and plan to revisit myself also. We visited this place in winter, in summer some nature trails nearby will be easier to hike around.
I spent a night here in February. We were a group of four people and we stayed in an apartment with six beds. The apartment was on the top floor of a wooden house, and it was spacious, very cosy and clean. Portaan Nahkurinverstas is located in a very quiet environment close to the nature. The hosts are very friendly and helpful, and they prepare a good breakfast upon request. There is also an excellent sauna, which the hosts will heat for you upon request. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay, and I would recommend this place to anyone that would like to spend some quality time on the countryside.
I loved this place! Extremely cosy accommodation, a true travel to the past. I felt very much at home here. Spacious apartment with lovely private sauna. If you want to feel the traditional Finnish wooden house atmosphere, visit this place. Location next to several nature reserves is fantastic. Eerikkilä Sport & Outdoor resort can be found near as well. Breakfast with self-baked bread & local products was a joy. Very good value for money!
