Huhmari is for those who prefer beautiful nature and relaxing atmosphere. Not much luxury but probably you weren't looking for any if you find yourself in Northern Karelia. Food is very good and has some personal touch with karelian pasties and some other local specialities. Huhmari has good possibilities to hike and ski. Take a cottage with sauna if possible

Stayed at Humari for 2 days and 1 night, The cabin we stayed was average quality, no compaints. But I did not find it value for the money we payed. Breakfast was included, but the food quality was very low. The food selection was not good at all, and finally buffet run out of food! No special diets served. The overall service was slow and not that polite. Felt like that custmers were not wellcome. The positive: the nature areoudn, the lake, the forest - the most beatuful place.

I didn't spend the night in Huhmari or visit the spa, but I spent a day there during a seminar. The space for meetings and seminars were really great and felt even luxurious. The space on the side of a lake had also two saunas and a small pool.

Huhmari is less than an hour's drive from the fantastic Koli national park, which was the main reason for choosing to stay here in August 2013. It is a quiet holiday village, with pleasant lake and forest surrounds. The cabins are quite dated and tired, but nothing really to complain about. We rented a Huhmari Villa, which had a lounge with a fireplace and a tv, a kitchenette (with fridge, freezer, cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, kettle and filter coffee maker - no oven, no toaster) dining area, steep steps to a mezzanine level with four single beds, a downstairs bedroom with two single beds and a baby cot, a bathroom, sauna and a terrace. There were plenty of bedding and towels. Kitchen had no basics, so bring your own coffee/tea/salt/sugar etc. Bathroom had shower gel, no other products. No hairdryer. Buffet breakfast was included, and served at the main complex. The selection was good, but the quality not so great. We did not have lunch or dinner at the restaurant, but we did come in for drinks. On the first night there was karaoke, which was quite painful to the ear. The second night was a true Finnish experience with a band and dancing (this is no disco though, the average age on the dancefloor that evening being 65+). By the water there was a nice barbecue area, and a beautiful view to Lake Höytiainen. The hotel offers boats for hire. The wifi worked well in the main complex, but only intermittently in the cabin. The natural setting is lovely, and the service was friendly enough. We enjoyed our stay but the overall feeling was that Huhmari is a little unkempt and needs some more TLC.

I stayed two nights in Huhmari during a business trip, and although it is not your typical business hotel, it was a lovely experience (it felt really Finnish...). I stayed in one of the beach villas, and although fairly simple it was adequate. Swimming pool was nice, but unfortunately opening hours were a bit on the short side. Traditional food, simple but tasty. Value for money!
