Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After reading previous reviews (and having had vastly differing experiences with Britannia in London) we booked with trepidation and poor expectations. We left it very late to book cruise parking, so this was a package of a night stay with breakfast, parking for a week and taxis to and from the port. We booked through a 3rd party and it seemed to be the basic room, however, when we checked in we had been given a suite which was really lovely. We arrived at 5.00pm and there were 2 very friendly and competent staff on reception, so the wait wasn’t long. We didn’t use the pool or gym but both looked fine. Breakfast was a bit hit and miss, with items not being replenished, and 9.00 finish seems to mean everything is cleared away by 9, so arriving 10 minutes before is probably not a good idea. We booked the time for our taxi on check in, and it was waiting for us when we went outside. We were given a phone number (of the taxi firm) with a reference number, to ring when we returned, and it came within 15 minutes. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Stayed here for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding nearby. Firstly I was charged an extra £100 for my room. When I realised they did refund me, and upgraded to a suite. The hotel is very dated and basic. Staying in the midst of a UK heatwave there is no aircon in the rooms, and the windows open a fraction. So 2 sleepless and hot nights. Service is slow, although the staff were friendly it was slow to get served. Breakfast was mediocre, was it not for a wedding nearby I would not stay again.

On 30 July we had a party for nearly 70 friends and family in the Broadstreet Room. The event was organised and managed by Sophia . Her attention to detail and professionalism took away the stress of holding the event and meant it all ran exactly as I had hoped. I have had lots of appreciative messages about the evening, the great venue and good food. Sophia was unobtrusively and efficiently on hand and responded immediately to any requests. It was also lovely to be able to be out on the balcony at the beginning of the evening before going in to enjoy the buffet and dancing. Thank you Sophia and staff for making the party such a success.

Please do not stay here. The guest experience is dreadful from start to finish. Check in at 4pm, although the inefficiency in which this is dealt with it is more like 4.30. The reception manager is draconian and rude in fact. The room we are staying in has no windows and is incredibly stuffy. The room is very small and is located by the breakfast /bar area. It is very noisy. We asked at the reception to be moved. We were told that this is the room we booked. I explained with respect I did not book a room with no windows by the breakfast/bar area and explained the noise problems. I asked if we could move rooms. I was told no. I asked if there was anything she could do to improve our stay or experience, no was the answer. I asked if I could speak to a manager, no was the answer. Apparently there is no manager on site until Monday, today is Saturday. I do not normally like to single people out but this lady really has no place working in hospitality with her attitude. This establishment is tired and there is absolutely no culture of trying to give guests a good experience, or anything resembling value for money. Please heed the warning and listen to this and the other reviews and do not stay here. It is extremely poor.

Golf society of 12 people , society pre paid in full . Told there was no chef so no 3 course meal as promised . Staff very disorganised and no manager on site for complaints and told to get in touch with the golf firm we booked with . Simply not good enough for a 4 star hotel . Currently trying to get a refund but no communication or responsibility from hotel.

Arrived for my birthday, with a 3 course dinner included. thought we would arrive around lunchtime so we could have some lunch and use spa, got told no food was being served and couldn't use spa until check in (4pm) thought we would just wait until 5pm for our dinner, 5pm come and got told they was giving us a buffet instead of a 3 course meal.. Was starving by this point, 5pm become 5.30, 6pm, 6.30. 7pm then 7.30pm food finally come out with just 3 options that i didnt eat!! bar had 1 member of staff and couldnt even get a drink! booked the spa for the following morning before checking out and arrived to be told it was shut! so our night away for my birthday ended up being a total waste of time and money

Booked as a family only for rooms to be in different parts of hotel was disappointing but went to bar to order food on Friday noght of weekend stay and told we had to order food by 6.30, we had to eat out. Breakfast served until 10 but told in no uncertain terms by very stern staff that had to be sat down by 9.15 otherwise we couldnt be served, we managed to do one morning but breakfast was horrible, ran out of things. Saturday lunchtime whilst waiting to get ready for a wedding we are again told "no food" and stafff couldnt seem to care. Service at bar was awful very slow. Saly no time to complain as had to rush home due to a family emergency

Staff doing there best but no chef no management to sort any problems. Turned up for breakfast paid for bacon rolls to be told there was no chef to cook the food. Evening meal was supposed to be served a 3 course meal to be told we were being served a buffet which was cold and no where near enough food shocking total ruined our weekend

Do not stay here!! Whilst the golf course is good and treatment staff were knowledgeable and lovely the rest of our trip left us really disappointed, upset and hungry. As other recent reviews have indicated the food service is atrocious. We had booked for dinner and breakfast on a two night stay. First day, no lunch available due to kitchen needing to close. 2 hour wait for dinner to arrive (too late for the desert). Second day neatly 3 hour wait, again too late for desert. Complaints not taken seriously, some guests told no dinner available. 2 guys even resorted to going out to get a takeaway which they ate in the restaurant, the manager didn’t question why they had done this. The restaurant/bar was not busy, there are obviously some major issues behind the scenes. Also, no aircon, pool shabby, jacuzzi closed, tennis courts overgrown and not playable.
