After the beaches and blue seas of Crete, we loved being in the mountain. The road that led up to the retreat, lined with wild flowers and thym, was rather narrow and sinuous in places. The view was stunning from the retreat. The rooms are individual stone loges each with its own terrace and hammock. Our room was a troglodyte...

We drove through the beautiful spring Cretan countryside up into the mountains - forever glimpsing the dramatic glare of the white peaks of the White mountains and parked above Milia. We walked down, were welcomed in. A pleasant sprig of fresh flowers adorned the table in the stone-built dining room: we had two kinds of stuffed pepper and vine-leaves and,...

the way to the resort is a wonderful ride into the woods, the retreat is so cosy, well equipped, no plugs in the rooms ,few lights, lots of candles ,fire place, central heating, hot water in a rocky bathroom, spacious rooms with warm quilts, all in a typical cretan village style. The big reception serves a rich home made breakfast ,fresh in every...

This remote and resort settlement is like something out of Tolkien's universe. Silent tranquility with the most spectacular cottages, and surroundings. The staff is relaxed, friendly and love to tell you about the philanthropic philosophy and stunning history of this place. Even the food is something else prepared from the retreats own produce.

It is really the ideal place to go if you want to truly relax and escape from the craziness of the city..but it is not recommended if you want to enjoy the sea and the sun obviously since it is in the middle of nowhere up in the mountain..the environment there is so primitive and you are so close to...

Nice atmoshere, poor options on food. Only salads and starters. Good wine. Nothing on the menu is produced or grown here ( as implied on the site) because eventhough we saw some chickens, when we asked for local chicken dish or even an omelet from them we were denied. May be the visit was off season.

We went for a dinner in order to get a better idea of the place as we wanted to stay there for few nights in the future and to send business. Let’s make it short because I really feel to write an essay about the misbehaviour of the staff at this place. I need to mention that we only had...

This is not the easiest place to drive to on Crete but I cannot think of a better destination for a lunch—perhaps some of the finest food I have had in all of Greece. The owners of the retreat have done a first-rate job of rebuilding and creating a space of peace and quiet solitude in a location that is...

It is about effort to come, not naturally built up expectations (as the first plates arrived), it's about what we truly deserve (and pay) after all.. Food was not right, main plate is supposed crown it was not! If one can create perfect pie, dream saussage, plant such a vegetables (!!) I can't see why the rest couldn't have been...

Milia provides that which we go to Crete for. Great scenary, good food and nature. We don't want or need the trappings that come with the tourist centres. The gentleman running the restaurant during our stay has left us with so many sayings with which to bore our friends we shall be unpopular with them for years! Our room was...
