We had a beautiful view of the ocean from our room and they put a cot up for our baby which was great. Unfortunately while the towels and sheets are changed daily this appears to be where the cleaning stops. We had toothpaste (not ours) on our sink for the entire week we stayed. The underside of the toilet seat was often not wiped clean. The shower is a terrible design with the head in the middle so water goes everywhere. One morning we did not even have hot water to shower with. Beds are very very hard. Wifi doesn’t work in the rooms and barely works by the pool.
Breakfast was terrible, everything was bland or over cooked. Coffee was awful. We ended up paying at neighbouring. Bocca for breakfast by the end of our trip.
Staff at the front desk came across quite rude at our initial check in and when a late check out was requested we were informed this would cost an additional 40 euros which seemed unfair as it was only an additional two hours.
Snack shack is okay for cheap food and on site supermarket is great. Location is also good.
Place was spotless, rooms, hotel, the pool areas,
Breakfast was good plenty to choose from, the bar area and snack bar is very cheap for beers and snack food, the supermarket onsite is brilliant, great location on the island plenty to see and do, boat trips, car hire, horse and cart rides through the main strip walks, loads of bars and restaurants about a 3 minute walk away, beach front location, and the beach is stunning, also if you go to the harbour which is about 2 min walk you will see a turtle hanging around the fishing boats.
Bad point. sun beds are normally all taken 1st thing would be nice to see the hotel do something about that! But all in all bloody brilliant
rooms are better than a typical Greek hotel, they do the job, beds are comfy and they were cleaned daily.
We had B&B and the breakfast had plenty of availability, breakfast staff were great and tables and areas were always cleaned
Reception staff were great, printed paperwork as needed to return to U.K. and really helpful throughout
Highly recommend this hotel, we love it here and the resort is great
The alykanas village hotel is sadly let down by poor staff attitude as regards cleanliness and very poor maintenance throughout .
Rooms
We had a ground floor 2 bed apartment overlooking the pool . Room location very good but the room is very basic . Very substandard bathroom which has dirty tiles and grout throughout . Foul smelling drains . Poor piddly shower , and the shower head has never been cleaned. As soon as you step out of the shower and step on the floor your feet are dirty as the maids have no concept of how to clean a floor on their visits.
We had two mugs and glasses for three people staying and these were never swapped for clean ones during our stay .
The beds are hard and uncomfortable and white sheets are provided , the sheets appear to have been laundered but throughout they were stained with blood and god knows what other bodily fluids.
Staff
Lovely cheerful snack bar girl who was a credit to the hotel and snacks were of good quality.
I saw the maids a few times , pretending to clean the rooms and once caught them hiding in a store cupboard as if avoiding work.
The curly haired woman on reception was grumpy and not very welcoming on arrival and throughout the stay.
Breakfast staff were again indifferent and not interested , which was the same standard of the poor food provided and the food was cold and poor quality.
The charge to keep a room longer was far too expensive and the courtesy room was not lit and was like a prison cell .
Overall it is shame this hotel and the staff has let itself fall well below expected standard as the location is great and the management are missing a real potential here.
I think it should be stated online that no facilities to even have a bowl of cereal as no plates etc or microwave and toaster especially for a young family who may want to warm babies bottles.
I will not stay here again unless it has a refurb of the rooms and the staff / food improve.
Location is very good, right on the beach. 4 pools to choose from and a small waterpark for the kiddies (up to 12 years old)
We stayed on a B&B basis. As others have said the food is not great, repetitive buffet.
Where you eat breakfast (and dinner for those on half board) was akin to a school canteen TBH.
All outside areas we well kept and clean. Plenty of sunbeds so no need to "reserve"
It seems there are 2 sides to this hotel (new & old) we were in what seemed to be the new side with a very good room (618) overlooking 1 of the pools and a sea view to boot.
However the kids room tells a very different story. Old, outdated, in need of refurbish.
Air con is included in the price (we were a package holiday with Jet2) however rooms safe is 20 Euros per week.
The hotel is classed as 4 star. The new part, yes, but the old part no way is it a 4 star.
We had a late return flight and was able to pay for a room for the 7 of us which we could use until departure for 40 Euros. Found it a little strange that we were unable to keep our original rooms on.
We tried the breakfast on site that was included, it was okay nothing fancy, but it has the basics cereals, toast, meats, fruits, eggs, mushrooms, beans, mini Frank furter style sausages and "bacon" there were also pastries and juice/tea and coffee
The beach was the best part for me, there are sun beds on the grass 2 with an umbrella for €10 definitely worth it! We did find however that people were waking at up ridiculous hours to reserve beds at the main pool infront of the sea, however we preferred the other sun beds as there were alot comfier
Maids came in everyday with fresh towels and bedding and emptied the bins. The rest of the staff around the complex were so friendly and helpful, thank you all :) tax was 42 euros for 2 weeks and the safety deposit box was 40 definitely worth it! We will 100000% be back here!
We received a friendly welcome late on a Saturday night after a relatively short 45min transfer. The hotel consists of original 3 story apartments that I would guess were built in the 80/90's and a newer 2-storey development next door We stayed in the newer developement in a very nice family room that had a partitioned area with childrens bed & sofa. Spacious bathrooms with walk-in power showers with plentiful hot water. Kettle, fridge, fitted wardrobes, large desk and a TV in each room area along with decent air conditioning. You can leave the A/C on all the time as long as you keep the patio door closed otherwise it powers itself off. The main room was two single beds joined but the gap was small and was no problem for us both. Super fluffy pillows were a nice touch instead flimsy limp things you usually get. Our room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and bedding.
The pool areas are fantastic. Some of the rooms below us on the ground floor have their own private swim up pool to the room. The sun loungers are well spaced and the patio area is really large and not at all crowded so it feels nice and quiet.
Very large pool in the new development is complemented by a games pool, nursery pool, large pool, beach facing pool with snack bar in the original development. Additionally there is a children's play pool with slides and fountains etc and a separate playground area too. Really impressive and all immaculately clean.
The hotel is situated directly fronting the beach with watersports & boat trips available. Its a small sandy beach with a handful of fixed wooden loungers available.
Some people have commented regarding breakfast but we felt it was superb. Lots of variety, hot and cold foods, cakes, fruit and salads, pancakes, fry ups etc. The only negative was that between 9-10am it is very busy with queues at the drinks machines and often running out of cutlery, plates etc. Apart from that it was excellent in our opinion.
There is a shop next to the reception open until midnight for all your essentials. Excellent bars and many restaurants just 2 minutes walk away along with larger Spar supermarkets. Excursions, car/bike hire etc all available on your doorstep.
BUT this is not a 4 star hotel, I’ve never been anywhere were I’ve had to set my own table every morning at breakfast and even though I didn’t go down every day for it, a couple of times there weren’t any knives. I found the choices at breakfast very difficult as there seemed plenty of choice but when you looked there really wasn’t.
The pool bar was very good plenty of choice and perfectly done. And the terrace and bar in the hotel was very good.
Rooms ok not a bad size, beds were hard but agin we had no problem.
But our bathroom (211) was absolutely the PITS . Very small, from the end of the shower screen to the sink it was a gap of about 2ft so really difficult getting in and out of this gap.
Not wanting to pay an extra £600 for a room with a shower we stuck with having one over the bath. But why would you have the shower on the long wall facing the bathroom door so you either flooded the floor and i do mean flooded even with 4 towels down or you angled the shower head so it faced the narrowest part of the bath which had a metal bar across from the screen to the wall this was bad enough for me BUT for my 6ft 3, broad partner this was a no go. So for the whole 10 days he had no shower apart from those near the pool near the beach.
Would I go again definitely not, but if you take go expecting a basic 3 star you at least won’t be disappointed.
I didn't like two things: in the morning at breakfast there was a lot of crowding and, having few employees, they couldn't supply all the stands in time and also, even if the pool closed at 7 PM, the staff came and collected the sunbeds and umbrellas from 6.30 PM. It happens that they also turn on the water sprinklers even if the tourists still had things on the sunbeds.
The rooms are quite basic but clean and comparable with typical hotels in Greece in my experience. Apparently some of the rooms in the hotel are more modern than others. It seems that they all have balconies which overlook the pools and some with a sea view too. It’s not luxurious but we tend to spend a lot more time outside on holiday and just use the room for sleeping and showers so it was fine for us!
There are several pools to choose from. In particular the one right on the sea front is gorgeous for the views. The communal areas were lovely and clean. We didn’t eat at the snack bar much but the menu looked decent enough and it’s convenient for a poolside snack or ice cream.
Breakfast had a lot of choice (pancakes, toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, meat, cheese, eggs, pastries etc). The doughnuts were incredible. It would have been nice to have more fresh fruit and a bit more variety each day but I think the hotel was quite quiet during our stay so I imagine they were trying not to be wasteful which is fair. The staff at breakfast were so friendly! One of the waiters, Kostas, remembered where we liked to sit so he would set our table for us every morning with the high chair ready for our baby which was lovely. There was also a lovely woman who greeted us every morning when we arrived for breakfast and spent a few minutes chatting to us.
Overall I would recommend this hotel for a family stay and would consider going back in the future.
