Being the anniversary of my wife it was the right place to stay in S.Miguel. Very comfortable hotel, with decoration appropriate to a five star hotel one hardly notices the hotel is about 40 years old. Room was spacious, with oversized king bed, large bathroom, walk-in closet and private hall. Renting a car is worth the money so one may take advantage of the attractions nearby like Caloura with a typical restaurant on top of the sea (literally!). Hotel has a semi-exclusive beach and a private chapel. Worth staying and experience a stay in a relaxing atmosphere to create a feeling of leaving this busy world. Breakfast is generous with a friendly atmosphere.
We really liked this hotel. It is located next to a very wide beach sporting dark volcanic sand. The hotel sits in a spacious and extremely well groomed park with lush and varied vegetation away from human settlement, which makes it very quiet and relaxing. There are also tennis courts and a soccer field for guests to use. The solitary location of the hotel, however, also means that you will need a rental car to get around. That said, you may want a car to see the numerous sights around the island anyway. And while we found the rates for rental cars quite expensive compared to other locations in Europe, driving is easy and not stressful at all as there is very little traffic on the island. In places, the interiors show their age, but everything is very well maintained and very clean. Rooms are spacious, well appointed, and have a lot of light and stunning views through large windows. The hotel is a non- smoking hotel, but smoking is possible outside and on the balcony if you so wish. Pool and pool area are very nice and spacious, and there is also a pool bar with drinks and light meals. All staff we met were very friendly and helpful, and there is a large breakfast buffet offered every day. Also, we found the hotel very good value for money.…
A excellent view, in a big fantastic room. More than expected. Everything in good shape, in a high level of presentation. All very clean and all prepared for any problem that could be encountered.
Pestana Bahia Praia Praia de Agua d'Alto, Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel 9680-365, Portugal (Formerly Hotel Bahia Palace) 5 days stay in the hotel including 3 without baggage lost by TAP airlines was excellent, service very helpfull
This hotel is fabulous. The staff is very helpful, and it has a large host of amenities including outdoor sports fields. It's right on the beach and the property is very well maintained. Breakfast and dinner feature fresh foods, many of which are local, and the quality is excellent. Honestly the biggest downside is the location, as it's out in the middle of nowhere. There's basically nothing to do in Villa Franca when you compare it to the rest of Sao Miguel. I didn't want to bother getting a rental car, so I choose to rely on taxis to get around. So if you want to go to Ponta Delgada to do whale watching, or Furnas to visit the hot springs, you can expect to spend an arm and a leg on transportation to get around the remainder of the island all of the time, all while waiting for your ride to show up. Of course, if you mainly plan on staying at the property the majority of the time and don't intend on seeing the remainder of the island, then yes this is an outstanding resort to choose.…
This hotel was in a great location! We loved our stay! We got a sea view room and it was amazing to wake up to an ocean view in the morning. Breakfast was included in the rate so that was a plus. The best part of our stay was the exceptional staff. Everyone was very helpful to a couple of clueless Americans:)
Peaceful and quiet location. Welcoming, helpful staff. Spacious, clean room with stunning view. The pool and beach are fantastic! Breakfast buffet has many options. Dinner buffet good. Beachside restaurant within walking distance, too. Easy travel to other towns and attractions We loved our stay!
Very good hotel. Rooms are immaculate. Staff are attentive Great location by one of the few beaches on the island.. Decent breakfast buffet. Good pool to relax by. We had a little issue trying to enter the property as we had apparently not aligned our car properly with a security camera. No big deal. Also our second room key did not work (a problem we had on 3 other hotels during our Azores trip,!,) Good choice if you want to be close to Furnas and on the beach!
My family and I pretty much loved this hotel. You certainly need a rental car, unless you plan on staying put for your whole stay. It's a bit more than a 30 minute drive from the airport. The included buffet breakfast is wonderful and plentiful. The local pineapple & melon were a fresh, delicious highlight. Our room was a bit small, but it was a corner room with a sea view, and an amazing breeze thru it with the windows open. A few warnings for Americans... The direct flights from Boston & Newark are both overnight flights that get in early. And the hotel was indifferent, to hostile, about getting us an early check in. And this was after contacting them multiple times prior to our arrival. After arriving at 10am, my family, with four year old, ended up sleeping in our tiny rental car for four hours. During this the front desk did nothing to expedite a room for us. After finally getting us a room at 2:30pm, they still wanted to charge me €25 for "early check in". Also for Americans (or maybe just me), the air conditioning was very weak. At no point did it decrease the temperature in the room more than two degrees F from what it was outside. They sent a maintenance guy up to the room, and he declared if fine after measuring the air out of the vent at 66F. But it basically did nothing but cut the humidity. I understand that the rest of the world would probably be fine with this. But in my experience Americans expect more. Everything else about the hotel was very nice. The pool was great, and the location by the beach was wonderful.…
The Pestana Bahia Praia nature & beach resort, is in a lovely location, perfect for exploring the island. Our sea view room Was large and comfortable with excellent WiFi. All the staff are polite and helpful. A rental car is essential though.
