PortoBay Falésia offers a picturesque setting that guests often appreciate for its stunning sea views and tranquil environment, complemented by private beach access. While the hotel's atmosphere is generally seen as relaxing, opinions are mixed on the dated decor and entertainment offerings. The staff receives high marks for their attentive service, adding to the overall positive experience.
However, some travelers question the hotel's value, citing overpriced food and services, despite the clean and well-maintained facilities. Room comfort is acknowledged, but there's a consensus on the need for modernization.

This is a beautiful hotel with breathtaking views( ask for ocean side). The breakfast “ pequeno almoco” was amazing. The service everywhere on the property was outstanding. The property was spotless everywhere you went!
It’s a perfect place to rest and relax or explore other beautiful beaches in the Algarve area.

I was debating wether to give this hotel four rather than five start as it’s certainly not the best we’ve ever stayed in but then I thought, I’m reviewing a 4 star category hotel and within that category I think it provides everything you’d expect and a high level of service, so it deserves the full five stars.
The hotel is a little dated in parts, the main restaurant in particular, but everything is clean, comfortable and well maintained. We had a top floor, sea view room, which we paid to upgrade on arrival, when we realised that none of the side sea view rooms (that we’d originally booked) had walk in showers, which was a must for us. Although the side sea view rooms get sun all afternoon on their balcony’s & most of the sea view lose this by mid afternoon, the view from the front is spectacular. We loved watching the changing light on the sandstone cliffs backing the beach, especially beautiful at sunset.
Rooms provided everyou need, kettle & tea tray, mini bar, safe, good hairdryer & reasonable closet space. Especially liked the fact that the curtains were fully black out, ensuring a great nights sleep on the comfortable beds. Tv had a really good choice of UK channels, quite important if you are staying off season like us. Mind you, the weather was perfect for our weeks stay, 19/20c every day & clear blue skies. Did lots of long beach and cliff walks, to Villamoura to the east and to Olhos D’Agua to the west.
Breakfast in the main buffet restaurant was generally very good, with lovely fresh OJ, omelettes cooked to,order, excellent choice of freshly prepared fruit and lovely little pastel de natas. The only fault was the coffee, which was truly awful.
As we were on B&B basis we ate out most nights, plenty of choice even in February just a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. We ate at the hotels a la carte restaurant, Falesia, twice for dinner and twice for lunch and would recommend it,especially for dinner, nice menu, great food and really lovely service.
All in all this is a fab hotel and I can see why so many sign up to the PortoBay loyalty scheme, for great discounts on a return visit to this or any of their other hotels. We were certainly very happy with this hotel & impressed with the brand.

We stayed in your hotel from 14 till 28 July and had a wonderful holiday.
This was the 5th time that we stayed in this hotel. We knew what we could expect and we felt very confident when we read how the hotel staff would ‘fight’ the permanent threat of covid 19. And we were not disappointed at all.
As soon as we arrived, we had again that feeling that we were very welcome. To the people at the reception, the man who brought our luggage to the room : thank you very much !
There was a problem with the safe in our room, and less than 30 minutes after we mentioned it at the reception, a man from the technical service came to fix it (and we had no further problems with the locker for the whole stay.) Thank you for fixing this so fast.
We were very happy with the cleaning service in our room (just like all the previous years.)
We can say that everyone in the staff did his/her very best to give us the feeling that we were safe in the hotel. We appreciate the enormous efforts that have been done to create (in this horrible pandemic time) a relaxing holiday atmosphere for the clients.
We liked very much how the meals (morning and evening) were organized in the restaurant and we can say that we were even a kind of surprised to see that there was still a fabulous selection of food and all presented in a safe and hygienic way by an ever friendly staff. It is also good that there is a permanent supervision to remind the clients to disinfect their hands, to wear their mask when they leave the table, to follow the route as marked on the floor (we felt sorry to see that still a number of clients did not follow the route or did not keep a safe distance or just popped in a row in an open space instead of queuing at the back of the row, as soon as there was no supervisor around – but we can understand that you cannot place on every spot in the restaurant a supervisor ; adult clients should know that they have to behave in a responsible way.)
We also felt very safe at the pool area as we noticed how many times all the sunbeds and sunshades were disinfected during the day. There was also a safe distance between all pairs of sunbeds.
We also appreciated the breakfast in the early morning when we left (5 AM) : that was a generous breakfast and the waiter did not have to apologize for the fact that the bread was from the evening before. The bread was still more than OK.

I booked this Hotel for a last minute break for my wife's birthday for the last few days of February.
When we got to the hotel the front desk greeted us in Portugese and when we replied in English she promptly switched to speaking English which was great and most of the staff also spoke English.
The Room was a Standard room facing the car park we had twin beds pushed together which was not as bad as we originally thought and didn't bother to ask for a change.
The room was clean and very spacious for a standard room the shower was over a bath and had both a standard head as well as a waterfall style head and you could have both on at the same time it was very powerful and great. A point to note some of the sockets are linked to wall switches as they have lamps plugged into them so if you can figure out which these are it'll stop you telling the front desk and having a maintenance man come and have to show you!....
Although it was February it was warm enough to spend some time at the fantastic beach or poolside but we didn't swim as the water was very cold.. the steps down to the beach are daunting when viewed online but are not to bad in reality.
As for the food all I can say is WOW...even though it was off season the food was of a fantastic standard and each night had a variety of dishes that could satisfy even the most fussy of eaters such as myself.. loads of choice for both vegetarians and meat eaters even a special selection for Gluten free eaters. The Breakfasts were also as varied for all tastes.
The best way to describe it was a buffet style which if you are familiar with cruise ships really reminded us of the buffets like the Windjammer on the Royal Caribbean cruise ships.
Great quality, choice and tasty as well.
We 100% recommended this hotel....
And definitely hope to return.

The rooms' doors slam so loudly because they have an automatic spring, don't count on sleeping after 7am. Guests are mostly British and very loud, children running through the hallways and screaming, as ofearly morning to late at night, 23:00. You can hear people talking through the walls, and I was unlucky to have a very loud couple which was talking non stopuntil 1:30am. Something happens every morning at 7:30 and you canhear dragging chairs, moving furniture and banging noices. I was on the 3rd floor. Breakfast is always the same and it is good. Eating area is big, sometimes too hot near the windows, there are 2 terrace areas and the further one is nice and colder. Inside pool is small but mostly empty. Sauna is kind of a private, you pay something like 5 euro for a few hours and it is limited to 2 people or something like that. The view is amazing, the beach also. Vilamoura is NOT worth visiting, the walk to there is nice but long, make sure you don't end up walking back in dark, you can't walk back on land, only on beach or by car. We rented a car and were super happy about it, went to Albufeira and Lagos. The hotel's special events menu was 85 euro per person and I found it expensive. Parking is for free, spaces limited. You can also park outside of the hotel. The area around the hotel is kept clean and it is really pleasant. The restaurant is a bit expensive for what you get.

Just back from a 5 night stay at The Porto Bay, Falesia which ticked all the boxes for our 1st break in 2 years even though the weather was variable. The outdoor pool is surrounded by pine trees, has masses of sunbeds & several view points to for views of the dramatic orange &.red cliffs, sea & beach below, though not from the lower sea view rooms as the trees obscure it. Reception staff all speak English, were both helpful & efficient. We were given a parcel containing 2 masks & small bottles of sanitiser at check in (a nice touch) as masks are compulsory.on public transport. They are not required in the hotel but we chose to wear ours while moving around inside. There were plenty of dispensers available throughout the hotel & at breakfast. We were invited to use it on entering the restaurant but did notice people ignoring it as the week progressed, We used it additionally after getting breakfast items & sitting down each time to prevent an unwanted holiday souvenir! We both tested negative on Day 2 LFT. Staff cleared tables quickly after use, replaced tablecloths & sprayed chairs etc. so were working hard continually throughout breakfast service. We can't comment on the evening buffet as we didn't try it We booked the Falesia restaruant on our first evening & were so spoilt with the lovely menu we chose to return there just taking a walk into the nearby village to sample a chinese meal one evening. Our room was clean, tidy & functional with good Wifi reception throughout the hotel, nice toiletries, good hairdryer, tea & coffee tray & a good number of power sockets with a quiet aircon.unit - miracle! The beds were extremely comfortable (as reported in other reviews) & was a major factor in selecting this hotel - we were not disappointed & my husband had no trouble sleeping. Daily room service was efficient & although we had to check out on time (midday) we were able to use the hotel secure store for our case & use hotel facilities all day incl pool/beach towels. The hotel food prices are competitive & happy hour provides the same for evening drinks & varied interesting daily cocktails in Buzios Bar with unobtrusive background music most nights & alternate nights in Falesia, but nothing particularly lively. Doors remain open in public rooms generally to assist with keeping a good airflow so you may need an extra layer to feel comfortable, but it means the entertainment noise does drift up from below until about 11pm.

My husband and I visited this hotel for a week long Easter break. I am 27 weeks pregnant and planned to have a relaxing break before baby arrives in a few months. We paid for a sea-view room but unfortunately because we were placed on the 1st floor we were too low down to see the sea past some trees. We asked if we could have a room higher up and this was arranged for us very quickly. The new room had a perfect view we were very pleased with. The rooms were very clean and quiet and we slept well. The weather on the first 2 days was a bit wet and thundery so we decided to visit the spa. We had hoped to have some treatments but they were fully booked (no doubt due to the weather). We used the indoor pool facilities which were lovely but the room is very dark and there is no drinks/snack service down there so we didn’t stay down for long. Food was lovely throughout the trip. I ate mainly veggie to be safe for the baby and my husband had a variety of meat/fish/veg. We were half board so we just paid for lunch at the pool bar during the day as well as drinks which were relatively well priced. We dined out on our last night at the Falesia bar which we pre booked and it was lovely with nice food and live music, the staff at that bar were always very nice. Although the weather improved during the week the outside pool was very cold due to time of year so not many guests braved it but it was nice and clean and good size. Drinks and snacks service around the pool wasnt great so I would say they could have had more staff dedicated to doing that. My husband used the gym during our trip and said it was well air conditioned and what you would expect of a hotel gym. Evening entertainment wasn’t great as we felt it was very dated and the main bar area very dark and old fashioned (we are 30 and it made us feel old!). It also wasn’t suited to families/children. We tended to sit in the sofa area so we could be in a brighter more comfortable room with a tv for my husband to see football but still hear the music. We ventured down to the beach on 2/3 days. The steps down are steep but there are chairs that you can rest on mid way if you need. The beach is very clean and beautiful sand and views. Again too cold to go in for a swim but we did dip our toes/legs in. The hotel is in a beautiful location at the top of the cliff looking down on the beach and the views were amazing. However the local town is a little rundown looking and not much going on - maybe time of year.

Just returned from the Porto Bay hotel, unfortunately the holiday was cut short by the Commonwealth and Foreign Office UK advice for air travel around the world. So our carrier Jet2 flew us back to the UK on one of the many repatriation flights.
That said I have stayed at the Porto Bay hotel several times before and the friendliness of the staff, service, relaxed atmosphere and location continue to be excellent. Because of the unfolding circumstances of the Covid 19 virus around the world the hotel were advised to take several precautions for the protection and health of all customers and staff at the hotel. (there were no customers at the hotel with Covid 19), but staff at the hotel did a superb job with hand sanitizers everywhere, cleaning hard surfaces several times a day, encouraging customers to keep apart and not gather in big groups. Each day we were there a notice was left in our bedroom of the changes which were to be implemented for staff and our protection. So our holiday was cut short, looking at the situation around the world at the moment, I'm lucky as I am now safely home writing this review and can always return to this hotel when things change.
I would just like to congratulate the General Manager of the hotel, Fernando for the way he and all his staff worked so hard under very difficult and fast changing circumstances to keep all customers and staff well informed and safe.

My husband and I have just returned from this super hotel. Our holiday was cut short due to the current Coronavirus pandemic . In the face of this, every member of staff were extremely professional, courteous, helpful and maintained big smiles on their faces at all times. The hotel was spotless! Numerous hand sanitizers were placed at strategic points in public places and safe guarding measures set up.
The hotel was perfect! Set overlooking wonderful sea views with well kept and established gardens there's is a little 10 minute walk down some private steps to a beautiful sandy beach which you can walk on to the nearby towns. This is a little steep, particularly after a large hearty breakfast but several benches have been set up so you can catch your breath and admire the views on the way up!
Talking of breakfast, in fact all meal times (we were half board) there really is something for everybody in the buffet restaurant. I am a vegetarian and the vegetarian options were numerous and varied. My husband loves his meat and we were both delighted every evening by the imagination of the chefs who created lots of culinary delights.
The rooms, like the rest of the hotel were spotless. Tea and coffee facilities were much appreciated Bd the cleaning staff again were very pleasant and not obtrusive.
This was our first visit to Portugal and we'll be back! Thank you to all the staff for your help and smiles and making our stay a safe and happy one!

I cant believe the fantastic service here. The manager , on hearing our holiday was due to be cancelled due to the Covid crisis, reversed the Portobay Group's decision to close the hotel and re- opened it just for us. We were upgraded to a top floor suite FOC and instead of the complimentry 2 x drinks , were given free drinks for the entire stay. Breakfast was delicious as usual, if a little lonely and we were then informed there would be no charge for lunch time meals at the poolside bar either. The bonus was, with just the two of us in the whole hotel, there were no smokers around the pool either. My wife eventually won the bingo as she was the only participant and due to the free evening drinks , staff with not much to do, were happy to give us piggy backs back to the room. Out transfer company had long since shut down so Manager Fernando ReisFilipe took us back to the airport himself. When Portobay say your a "Prestige Gold" customer, they mean it !! Hope to see you all soon

Over a hundred steps but there are benches to sit on if you need a rest part way.
You will have to ask the hotel this question, but during our stay there were no weddings. Generally the atmosphere was nice and no loud music either.
