Detailed Reviews
The hotel advertises as a 3 star but it was more like 5 stars. A warm welcome awaits on arrival.
The hotel smells so fresh and the lounge is spacious and comfortable. The bar prices are very very attractive,
with a glass of wine and a large beer just over 4 euros!
The hotel has a swimming pool, many rooms with balconies and nice views.
The room was clean with a comfortable bed and had any easy device to operate the air conditioning!
The breakfast was varied and with a suitable time span between 7.30 am to 10.30am.
The reception desk people were helpful and attentive.
Would not hesitate to go back.

Little gem of a hotel, providing excellent value for money. The rooms provide a very good sleep, and you get housekeeping daily, but can give it up for a five euro voucher, for each day you don't take it.
The pool area is limited, but there is never any problem getting a bed.
Breakfast is in a lovely restaurant with glass walls, giving a view over the surrounding area. Great coffee provided by the new Nespresso machines.
The staff are fantastic, always ready to chat and have a laugh, without being intrusive.
The bar area is very nice, and a good place to have a chat. The barman knows his customers and provides excellent service.
Animation is new this year, the lad does an excellent job sometimes to a very small audience. His bingo games are something else, and nobody takes them too seriously. Good job, as the rules are never that clear.
The reception staff are polite, friendly and unobtrusive. Quite happy to do concierge duties, such as booking tables at restaurants.
The Velamar is not the place to go for wild fun, but it is a very homely and tastefully decorated place for the more mature traveller.

This was our second visit to the Velamar this year and while we were, on the whole, happy, we did detect some changes.
we have stayed in a deluxe rook with a balcony overlooking the road (not as bad as it sounds as the noise insulation is excellent, and you can watch the world go by), and this time, in one of their two suites on the 3rd floor as they only had these available when we booked.
The suite did have a very large sitting room and that was nice but we did miss the balcony and felt it really wasn't worth the extra per night for the suite.
The pool is cleaned daily and the man who does this checks the PH level, etc. but the pool area was cleaned less this time and the sun beds looked as if they hadn't been cleaned in some time. The staining from so many feet is not pleasant.
The pool bar, for drinks, is value for money with a large beer at €3.00 but the food portion sizes appear to have reduced significantly over the summer and there is better value snacks to be found close by.
Our suite has a Nespresso pod machine with 4 complimentary pods and a note stating additional pods could be purchased at reception. Unfortunately, no one had told reception this and they did not have any to purchase meaning we had to go to the local supermarket ()a 5 minutes stroll, so no real hardship).
The breakfast is very good with plenty of choice from cereals, pastries and fruit, through cold meat and cheese and cooked bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs with a toast machine.
The one thing that hasn't changed is the staff who were, without exception, friendly and welcoming.
Will we be back - probably as Olhos has everything we need for a relaxing week or so with the beach at Olhos being a gentle 25 minute stroll (downhill - coming back is slightly more hard work, especially if not is warm (31C when we were there). Albufeira is a short (20 minute) taxi ride away with Uber charging around d there €5-6 range and regular taxis booked via reception, a little bit more.
We arranged our own transfer from Faro airport for €80 return but the hotel can also arrange transfers for slightly more.

This hotel was booked for my 30th birthday trip. I must say that upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff. The presentation of the hotel is fresh and vibrant and the cleanliness is 10 out of 10.
Unfortunately the facilities of the hotel listed on their website and third party sites are not what it appears to be. The hotel lists having a spa, which it does not! I asked for this facility at the reception area, I was told they had spa facilities on another sister site which I would have to travel to by taxi and also pay additional charges for - This is disappointing and one of the reasons I picked this hotel to begin with. I’m told massage treatments can be provided on site so I will enquire and see how that goes.
The room lists free breakfast to be included, however I was upset to learn we had to pay an additional surcharge this morning because we only have room only status. I was informed that this was down to the booking through the travel agents, however I explained on all the sites free breakfast is listed so wanted to know why this couldn’t simply be added on. It wasn’t something that was accommodated. I was also told the additions I expected to receive for my birthday could not be facilitated because the hotel was not aware of it being my birthday. Again, another issue I guess between the travel agents and the hotel. All the same disappointing for me on my birthday!
Our room is lovely and clean but I would say it could be better situated. Unfortunately we have been given a room right next to the lobby area which means that noise is an issue sometimes, especially when people are using the piano in the lobby.
The hotel sits on a row of local restaurants but I was surprised to learn it was not near the centre. I have been told that I will have to get a taxi down there so will try this today and see how it goes.
I do not leave until Wednesday so I’ll be back with a further update of my stay at the end of the week.

Pros
The room was okay, the beds were large and comfy and ac was working well. Rooms were pretty soundproof even though it was by the main road
Food was ok
Decent location, 5 min uber to the strip and 12 mins to old town, plus local beach was nice.
Parking was safe
Cons
When making the booking it said they take amex, after submitting my details they email saying it was a confirmation of details and gave another link to make payment which didn't accept it. Should have taken this as a warning sign.
There was nothing really boutique about the hotel, the hotel looked like it was really for old people.
The bathroom had an odour of sewage every day, we talked to the staff who temporarily removed it but it kept coming back.
The pictures are really deceiving, the pool was tiny and was crammed with sunbeds, plus it wasn't the cleanest.
Main negative is that they lied about the services they advertise. They do no spa facilities and on arrival they said they can set it up at another hotel. If we wanted to go somewhere else for the facilities then we can search ourselves. When asking about golf, they said they didn't know about them and we can find out ourselves.
Also the housekeeping did not change our sheets or clean anywhere up not even wipe the floor. I think they only came to do up the bed. When they came in the room they left the bathroom door open so the whole room elt of sewage.
Would have rated this higher but the false information was a let down. And we paid a lot more than what it was worth. Place should be nearly 1/2 of the price for what you are getting so overall I would not recommend.

Dear Dipesh, Thank you for choosing our Hotel and for taking the time to write us your review and about your experience. Every feedback is very important to us, as this helps us to improve our services. Regarding the AMEX card, when our guests choose a non-refundable rate, this implies full payment of their booking prior to arrival. However, to ensure greater security for us and our guests we prefer not to charge your card directly and have chosen to send you a payment link - "Reduniq" (the official Portuguese representative of Visa and Mastercard) which unfortunately does not yet have AMEX payments available. We are sorry that your experience had that inconvenient. As far as the bathrooms are concerned, we have been working in the hotel to renovate them, but we noticed that some of them had problems. We have tried to correct these situations on a daily basis and we have seen significant improvements. Nevertheless, we will intervene again in the rooms to ensure that such situations do not recur. We invite you to visit us again, so that you can evaluate the improvements in our service and enjoy the comfort of our rooms again. Hope to see you again soon. Kind regards, Liliana Costa - Hotel Management

Spotlessly clean, and very courteous staff.
The room was a decent size, we got a pool view with a balcony at an extra €40 cost on arrival. We were happy enough to pay.
The breakfast was perfect, with a wide range to suit all tastes. Plenty of fresh fruit and a hot selection too (although we didnt eat this) Again i must mention the breakfast staff were so helpful.
The pool area was clean and tidy but a little small for the number of guests if the hotel was in high season. I would recommend additional loungers as there weren't enough at times. Hotel offers complimentary beach towels for pool use, this was a great idea rather that pack ones from home. The Pool area was extremely quiet, the majority of the clientele were from a retired age group and did not appreciate any level of noise. I recieved many frowns from playing music from my phone at a low volume. Although this is out of the control of the staff, I would suggest this property may be better suited to older groups. *good tip, use the uber service for getting around, €4 to the main strip €8 to the old town €11 to the marina.
The hotel is modern and fresh a good base to explore. the local beach was beautiful. Try the soft cafe for snacks, very reasonably priced and lovely staff.

Dear Charlotte S, Thank you for choosing Velamar Boutique Hotel and for the time you have spent on writing us about your stay. We are glad to know that you had a pleasant stay, and that everyhing went through as expected. The quietness on our hotel is indeed apreciated by the majority of our guests, and that makes the difference. But, as you have mentioned, for those looking for more action the strip and old town are not too far. Looking forward to welcome you back again. Kind Regards, Liliana Costa - Hotel Management

+1
This small hotel has everything you need for a short stay. We stayed 5 nights and were pleased with the services offered for a 3* budget hotel. The hotel itself is spotless for the most part. Didn't use the pool, so can't comment there. Even the public toilets near reception were spotless. The bedrooms were spacious and a safe is provided. The beds are huge and very comfy. Large walk in shower in the bathroom. Towels were changed regularly but the bedding was not changed in 5 days. This was no real issue and we did elect to go green and have no housekeeping for 2 out of our 5 day stay and received x2 €5 vouchers to use in the bar, which is a nice touch. We were on the ground floor with a large balcony. The only thing with a ground floor room is that the noise from the bar area can sometimes be heard in your room when you are trying to sleep! The only disappointment for me was the decor in the room. At 1st glance I thought the skirting boards were filthy but decided they were perhaps meant to have a 'distressed' look; not pleasing on the eye at all. Also previous scuff marks on the walls had been touched up here and there and the slight difference in paint colour stood out. These skirting boards really need to be painted white! We also had 3 long hairs in our bathroom (I assume from the cleaning staff) as my husband and I both have short hair!) The breakfast dining area on the top floor has plenty of choice of hot and cold food with fresh fruit juices and an excellent coffee machine. The pastel de nata's are the best I have ever tasted and I've been to the Algarve many times. The dining area is kept absolutely spotless; I was very impressed. There is a lovely outside dining area, however, there can be unpleasant drain smells out there. We also had a bit of a drain smell in our shower room too! The staff at Velamar are a credit to the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel however, it is a good 20 minute walk into Olhos itself where a lot of the restaurants are by the beach; not great if you have mobility issues. There are, however, bars and restaurants nearby too and you can always grab an Uber or the hotel will phone a taxi for you.

Dear DayTrip00306721475, Thank you for telling us about your stay at our Hotel. We are delighted to know that you had an enjoyable stay. We are sorry that something did not live up to your expectations. We would like to assure you that we will look into the matter and take steps to improve so that you will be pleasantly surprised the next time you stay with us. We have very strict procedures, and we try our best to comply with them all. For example, changing sheets must be done every 3 days, and I guarantee that our standard has nothing to do with what you said. Therefore, I believe there may have been some misunderstanding when using the Green Choices, and I am sorry for that. I will ensure that the same does not happen to other people. We look forward to welcoming you again soon! Kind regards, Liliana Costa - Hotel Manager

The hotel as a whole is nice for a 3*. Room clean on arrival. You can opt out to have it cleaned on certain days and you get a €5 voucher.
We only arrived on Saturday and opted out on Sunday.
Twice on Monday I asked cleaner to do our room, she just left clean towels.
Sign was out for room to be cleaned.
3 times I was down and reception asking for it be be cleaned. No cleaner arrived, she had eventually left. We had to go down to ask for toilet paper, shower gel, clean cups, glasses, the bins were overflowing with rubbish.
I PM hotel to get it done. Nope.
Tuesday, left hotel about 10am, back at 15.00, still not done. My husband and I have both complained.
Out for a coffee, waiting for it to be done.
Absolutely disgusted!!

Regarding the cleaning situation, normally in the morning we give priority to rooms with new arrivals who will check in and in the afternoon we start the daily cleaning. We would like to assure you that this is not our usual standard and we will indeed check what may have happened. We will look into this matter so that it does not happen again. Our aim is to always offer the best service and maintain a high level of satisfaction. I hope you can stay with us again so that we can offer you an experience that exceeds your expectations. It will be a pleasure to welcome you back! Best Regards, Liliana Costa - Hotel Management

Lovely little hotel. The staff were always cheerful, efficient and ready to help. The rooms were spotless and cleaned every day unless you took advantage of the 5 euro off drinks reward for declining room cleaning for one day. Which is an excellent idea and should taken up by more hotels. The buffet breakfasts were good with the usual choices of hot and cold food. The drinks were reasonably priced and the house wine was very palatable. The pool area was small and slightly confined but we never struggled to get a sun bed. Its location is ok if you want a quite, relaxing holiday but is a bit of a distance to the beach and main town. There are a few decent restaurants nearby.

We stayed here recently for a week for our fathers 70th birthday. Hotel is spotlessly clean, staff are extremely friendly. Breakfast each morning was very nice, everything you could want from cereals, pastries, fresh fruit and yoghurts to cooked options also.
We stayed in a room with no balcony but this did not bother us too much, large window opened fully and we were not in the room too much anyway.
Hotel is close to all amenities with a supermarket a 5 minute walk away and lots of bars and restaurants close by.
We really enjoyed the old town which is a taxi journey away at about 8 euros. The reception will phone you a taxi.
All of the staff are so friendly at the hotel, in particular Ricardo (bar man) and Pedro (reception). Such lovely people who always went out of their way to help us with any enquiries we had.

Hi - yes, kettle in each room with tea bags/coffee sachets & sugar. You can get a small jug of milk from the bar
I booked as a single person but had a great size room with a huge comfy bed. My room overlooked the pool area which was perfect. And yes lots of restaurants within as little as 5 mins away. A bit more of a walk and you will have plenty of choice.
