This used to be an authentic and very relaxing experience with focus on quality. With the new ownership this has change into quantity. More sauna's with entertainment (where you look at a screen with an polar bear walking by) and the field has now been completely filled with sunbeds. There is no privacy and you have to que to get into. They used to make more use of the actual location and Groningen itself. Now they call it nordic and make use of screens, moodlights etc. The investors or owners have not looked into the actual area and used that as a differentiating positioning for this spa.. I found the food quite ok but, again there, it's like a factory. One takes orders, others serve out.. No human connection.
Visited the newly named "' Quality Wellness resort". This was not my first time. Unlike, last time, the temperature of the water good. There is change in the name of the resort. The price of entry has hiked up by at lase 40% if not more. One of the aspects of Wellness is the diet, there are no options for vegans and vegetarian option is limited to the soup and a burger. The soup was far too salty. The prices are exorbitantly hiked. The buffer service is not much better for vegans or for that matter vegetarians, unless you love to have salads, while paying the same price as others who have a scale of hot dishes. The disinfector was finished.
A good wellnes resort with nice thermal baths and a seperate nudist sauna section. I liked the relaxed atmosphere and the staff was helpful and offered us help if we needed anything. There were some renovations going on, but this did not affect our experience negatively.
I have stayed here several times before, and I must say that I am sad that the previous menu of the saunalodge and the brasserie is gone. Currently it basically has only one option for vegetarians: goat cheese sandwich and goat cheese salad (which also means it has no option for vegans...). Previously there were many more vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. Having said that, this place has many wonderful pools (including the new outside thermal bath that has a lovely view on the park and nice jacuzzi). Most of the new saunas have a bit too much music and lights. I prefer the old saunas that are just sauna. They offer some aroma ceremonies in this corona time, which I think is a good solution (but the music/sound is not necessary and actually distracting). The steam baths are lovely, and there are sufficiently many different ways to cool off and nice places to rest. They take care of social distancing by limiting the number of people in the pool by having you put your slippers in one of the available boxes--and wait if all boxes are full. The hotel is still very nice and the restaurant in the hotel is wonderful (although I am sad the water menu has disappeared and the choice options for the package that includes dinner). Breakfast is still a buffer but with choices limited to foods that are protected and clear walking directions and signups to ensure there are not too many people at the same time. Overall I'd say still a relaxing place to be--especially during the pandemic. If they could improve the menu and especially add more vegan options that would make it even better!…
This hotel re-opened on Friday 15th May, after being shut down to as part of the Covid 19 measures in the Netherlands. Currently the restaurant and salt water pool are only open to hotel guests. Since this part of the Netherlands has suffered very little from the virus, we decided to book a room for their first night. When we stayed there were only 4 guests in total, although the next night they expected 16. As always the staff were very friendly and efficient. Dinner in the Waters of The World restaurant was limited to fixed menu, but as well prepared as ever. We aren't very keen on sweets dishes, so they swapped a cheese plate for the desert. The organisation in the restaurant to meet the Covid 19 restrictions was exemplary. Many tables had been removed. The remaining tables were all suitable for 4 people, with only two dinners actually seated on them. The waiter could then serve from the empty end, thus obeying the 1.5m distance rule current in the Netherlands. Of the extensive thermals baths and saunas, only the large salt water bath is currently open. But this was a very special experience as we had this huge pool to ourselves on both occasions we used it. Almost certainly the first and last time that this has happened. So a really relaxing stay and well deserving the 5* ranking I give it. I never felt under any risk since the bio-security was so well organised. If this is the "New Normal", I can live with. However, it will be hard for restaurants to make money with their capacity reduced by about 2/3rds.…
