We had an amazing weekend with friends. The crew in the hotel was very friendly, the place was so beuatiful, everything worked more than well. Pasi was very helpful and showed us around. Chance to rent a "jurtta" to go around the lake. I recommend this place for evetybody to see Saimaa!

We have spent two summer vacations at Anttolanhovi during Covid summers 2021 & 2022. Summer ‘21 we stayed in one of the 6 person lakeside villas and summer of ‘22 we had the same lakeside villa in addition to a 2 person handicap room in the main building for elderly family members with limited mobility in our group. This allowed them to have an easy access to the breakfast buffet and the sauna and pool department at the main hotel building (Villas have multiple steps and not ideal for people with limited mobility). During summer ‘21 the main buildings swimming pools and sauna department were in high use with our elderly family members so naturally they were looking forward to using these facilities again and booked the handicap room for summer ‘22 that is in the same building as the sauna and pool department (rather than making their way down to the villa to use the sauna and take stairs down to the lake). In early ‘22 when we booked for summer ‘22, we came to find out that the previous hotel operator had filed for a bankruptcy and we have to file at bankruptcy court in order to get our payment back. This seemed a little odd b/c just a month earlier, it seemed that the hotel wanted to upsell more services to us and bill for it! However, soon the new hotel operator was able to re-book everything for us as originally planned and we were looking forward to our family reunion. In May ‘22 we reached out to the new hotel operator & manager who informed us that the restaurant will not be fully operational by June 2022/Midsummer BUT CONFIRMED THAT POOL AND SAUNA DEPARTMENT WILL BE AVAILABLE. After our check in just before midsummer, we quickly came to realized that the main building’s pool and sauna department were in fact under construction when less than 30 days prior it was confirmed by the hotel manager that it is operational. This was a big problem and inconvenience in particular for the elderly family members who chose this hotel & location for our family reunion in particular because of the great pool access for people with limited mobility. After reaching out to the manager during our stay on daily basis via email with no response at all, it was clear that he was actually avoiding us and was not going to address nor compensate for accommodation that wasn’t what was described. Also, there were few things in the main villa that had to be fixed after check in: A/C didn’t work, BBQ leg was broken and fell onto wooden patio and almost started fire etc. but these issues were fixed by the handyman who was professional and was trying his best under the circumstances. However it was obvious that the new hotel operator was trying to start the season in a rush when in fact they were not ready -some safety check-ups for the beginning of the season were not in place. Had we been notified about this in advance , we would had happily booked another hotel/villa in Finland rather than spending 5 nights pissed off about staying in a place that was amazing the previous year but inappropriately marketed for our June ‘22 stay. Overall the lakeside villas and the setting of Anttolanhovi is beautiful but the greediness and misleading description of the place by their current management shows a complete lack of professionalism and business management skills - Nickel and Dime mentality describes this the best! As another example of Nickel and Dime mentality; for midsummer they opened the kitchen for buffet dinner @ EUR 49/person which would have been better priced @ EUR 10-15 for the quality and options of their buffet. Multiple people in our group paid for this but weren’t able to eat more after their first bite. Unfortunately by not responding to us, they will get bad reviews and a complaint to the consumer protection agency in Finland even though they would be able to reach 4-5 star international rating with proper business management skills -BUMMER!!…

Positives: Nice location Negatives: Breakfast - I was excited about the breakfast included only to be disappointed to hear that it starts at 8. Everything is a 2 hour drive from the site so eating and leaving early would have been helpful. When we did see the breakfast, we were very disappointed. They somehow messed up scrambled eggs. We decided to skip breakfast the final day Bathroom - smells of sewage every night Cleaning- no one came during our 3 day stay 24 hour reception means reception is actually there from like 8 to 5. Beach sauna - 150 euros for 2 hours. I mean crazy. Löyly in Helsinki charges 19 for 2 hours Checkout-cant leave before 8 without fees Pool table- pay to play All other lakeside enjoyments come with a fee This was the worst hotel we visited in our 14 day stay in finnland…

I'm only reviewing the restaurant and it was quite of a disappointment. Checked forehand online Tuesday this was the day for buffet. However, it didn't say it was only the buffet that evening. Well, we paid 28 € per person for that. The result was the food was quite boring with no real flavours and the main course, salmon, was eaten away all the time. Many people checked every once in a while but the staff brought so little amount more that it didn't last more than for a few people. Finally they said there's no salmon anymore. I did get something but my father got none. Also there was no dessert anymore and they brought something quick as a corresponding dessert. I think it was meant to be pannacotta but it was something like sour berries and doughy pudding, ridiculous. The good thing was that the waitress offered us to pay back the money from the buffet without any demand. That saved a lot but I wish we have gotten more of those last small bites of salmon as it was salty and crispy, really good! At this kind of domestic summers I would imagine places like this to invest in keeping the Finnish travellers homeland also later on. However, this is not the way to do that!…

We stayed for two nights in one of the Design Villas by the lake. We had our dog with us and the hotel had remembered him with chewing bones as well. We chose the Indulgence for Two package which included among others some local sparkling wine, a picnic package to take with us to the campfire the next day, herbal foot baths and the woodburning fireplace being made ready to light with just a match. And the food... We had both dinners and breakfasts delivered to the Villa and they were amazing. We had different types of fish, lamb, pannacotta, porcini pasta, carpaccio and what not. Based on our googling they changed the chef lately and this one sure knows how to cook 🙌🙌 The villa would have had space for 6 so maybe next time we come with some friends 😊

We spend three days in a lakeside villa with the family. I was positively surprised of the very nice architecture and design choices in the villa, for anyone appreciating beautiful contemporary Finnish design, the house itself is a source of relaxation. The small beach few hundred meters from the villa is good for smaller children as well, water is clear and nice to enjoy. It was bit of disappointment that the restaurant was serving only buffet during our stay, we were expecting to use the order-to-cabin option which was not available during our stay. We did order the breakfast to the villa, which was plentiful, enough for snacks later during the day as well. All-in-all, worth recommendation!

I was with a group touring Eastern Finland and we stayed one nignt in the Anttolanhovi Resort. This has been a sanatorium earlier, refurbished to a resort hotel. The location is beautiful direcly at the Saimaa lake shore. The room was good, not very large but spotlessly clean, adequately equipped, good bathroom and a balcony towards the lake, magnificent view! We had a nice dinner at the hotel, a buffet with mostly fish dishes. There were a couple of delicious varieties of "muikku" (vendace says Google), the typical small fish of the Saimaa lake. No fine dining but a pleasant tasty meal. The bed was as such good but the covers were too heavy for summer and the ventilation weak, the room got stuffy. The breakfast was tasty but the staff were a bit slow in filling the empty trays. This place can be recommended even for a longer stay if you are interested in nature, lake activities and hiking or biking.…

We stayed at one of the design villas during christmas. It was really cold at the villa (it was around -20 celsius outside). There were two fireplaces and there came cold air from outside, there was no way to close the lower conduit from the fireplace. We got some extra heaters and somebody had laid rugs to cover the conduits. It helped with the cold but maybe because of this there came an error in ventilation system and we couldn't use the fireplaces anymore. The villas are really beautiful and clean and the landscape is spectacular over the lake. Although it was winter we still had planty of flies inside, they came from the walls (?). That was a bit disturbing. We had all the meals at the restaurant. Breakfast buffet was in my opinion the best, had fresh variety and plenty to choose from. You should really taste the out porridge that is stewed overnight in an oven. Only downside to breakfast comes from really bad coffee from a machine. The variety in the dinner and lunch was ok, but don't expect to have any vegetarian dishes (I had mentioned that I'm a vegetarian while doing our reservation, but there were no warm dishes at the buffet). There is a small pool area that we used one time. Water was really cold in all the pools and there is a strong sewer odour in the pool area which made our stay a short one. I also had two treatments in the spa. They were both nice, but the same odour was distracting also at the spa. Overall we expected a bit more based on the web sides and ads, so were a little dissapointed to what we got. But I think the villas are more cozy on summertime. I would like to tell you a few words about our terrible stay at Anttolanhovi hotel. Where we are at the moment. We’ve booked this hotel earlier before our trip on a Booking.com website. We decided not to rent just a house, but to stay at the hotel as we did really wanted to be serviced during the holidays. So we booked a 4 star Anttolanhovi hotel for 20 days. 1. And our vacations started from a dust in the room and spider’s web on the windows. 2. We addressed this question to the hotel, they sent the staff to make up cleaning and after the cleaning nothing changed there was dust on the dining table, coffee table, dirt in the corners of all the rooms. 3. We asked the hotel staff again to remake the cleaning, but it was not done Really properly again. It was a real surprise for me , that in a four star hotel I have to request and request and repeat the request to clean our villa. I must point out, that all these requests I had to make up by coming from my villa to the reception, as they Do not have the phones on their Luxury villas!!! (As the villas are the most Expensive properties for living at this hotel) So having no phone in the villa, I could not order any room service any toilet paper to say nothing of any other thing. I just had to come myself to the reception, or to use my mobile, what is absolutely inconvenient as I phoned to the reception through Moscow! 1. The breakfast finishes at 10:30 at this hotel. On 09.07.18 we came at the restaurant at 10:10 (me, my husband and my child) Most of the food was not available already at this time and when I asked the staff to bring some omelet, as we’ve just came in, the sheff helper told me that at 10:10 they do not bring any finished food as the breakfast will be closed in 20 minuets!!! It is absolutely impossible that at any 5 or 4 star hotel was such an attitude to the guests!!! What was the last drop that made me reflect my opinion here is that, Upon arrival the reception staff declared us that they have private sauna with a private swimming pool to book any time it’s available. And we really relaxed in there in the private sauna with the Private Pool on the 03.07.18. from 18:00 till 20:00. On 09.07.18. We booked the private sauna with the pool for the evening to relax. When we came at the appointed time, to the sauna, the pool of this sauna was opened for the other guests and there were no towels, no bathrobes in there. And when I addressed the staff with the question that they declared before and we Rented before the private sauna with the private pool and they can check it, they told me, that now it is not possible, as it was a Mistake!!! So, to make up the conclusion, I would like to say that, this hotel doesn’t cost the money we paid, as I really thought that I will relax in a four star hotel, but it occurred that I just rented a bongalo for that money. No real service, No one knows the rules, they promise one and do the other. Just a small remark. Almost a half of the bicycles was broken and not possible to use. And the minibar was filled in only on the 5th day of our arrival. And now it’s up to you to decide whether to go here or not. Might be really better just to rent a house? At least you know what you will have there.…

The Art & Design Villas are incredible, which is the reason for the 5 star rating. You will not get the same experience of sitting in a high fashion, beautiful designer villa, enjoying the perfect PRIVATE view of Lake Saimaa, anywhere else. The villas are beautifully equipped with three double bedrooms, kitchen and sauna - everything is roomy and nicely designed. I cannot recommend the lakeside villas enough. You can cook your own food or order in from the restaurant which is rather rare for this region. To wake up to the sight of Lake Saimaa just outside your bedroom is just brilliant. And you can get beauty treatments / massages done at the villa for a very reasonable price if you prebook! The rest of the resort is tired and in a bad need of a facelift. We ate at the restaurant one evening and it was fine - the food was nice enough, the service was as tired as the resort. The rest of it does not match the beautiful villas, although there are a lot of activities that does not make up for the 70's feel of the place. Stay in the villas, you will love it.…
