I really enjoyed my time at the koggala beach hotel. Everything was so great and affordable. Special thanks to the front office manager gayan for your kind hospitality. Food was superb. The room had all amenities and I had an extremely relaxing stay. It is a beach front hotel. The welcome drink could be improved. Other than that everything was super nice.
This is our 2nd visit to this lovely hotel. All rooms have sea view. We had a room on 1st floor then changed to a terrace room for a change. The terrace room was really nice as there are sunbeds outside your door. Food was good especially the soup and Dall. If there any requests Chef gladly accommodated. Staff - absolutely wonderful. Always happy, polite and helpful. When my husband was attacked by sandflies staff brought in Aloe Vera from their home and the lifeguard applied Citron oil. Transport. The hotel is ideally placed for travelling on South Coast. We visited Mirrisa, Unawanatuna, Hikkaduwa, Gall by bus no 350 and 2. (100 rupees) Stop located outside hotel. Hikkaduwa and Galle can be visited by train. Timetable easily accessible on phone. Koggala Station turn right out if hotel. Approx 1/2 mile. Best by taking tuc tuc approx 300 rupees. At time of writing 400 rupees to British pound. Hotel situated on beautiful beach but high waves unsuitable for swimming, best beaches for swimming, Unawanatuna by bus approx 10 minutes. Snorkeling Hikkaduwa approx 45 minutes by bus or train. Exchange. Banks need your passport. Turn right, Approx 200 yards from hotel. We found best rates in Galle in Fort area. 15 mins by by bus or train. No bars or restaurants in immediate area. Best in Unawatuna and lovely beach bars.…
At first sight this should have been a wonderful stay. We were booked here through our holiday company for 3 nights at the end of our Sri Lankan tour. The hotel is located on a busy road in between 2 towns on a stretch of golden sands, but essentially isolated. Walking through the entrance once we'd been 'wowed' by the view of the beach, we quickly realised how depressing it all felt. No colour/flowers - a fish pond with dirty green water - and then it became clear that although the beach is amazing, there are no hotel facilities whatsoever to allow guests to relax there - not an umbrella/sunbed in sight despite temperatures of 30 degrees .. just sand and sea and generally pretty deserted. The cabins are rather run down and there were broken things in the bedroom (toilet seat/no plugs in sink or bath) ; we also had to ask for a security box which was supposed to be supplied. The hotel has clearly suffered from the impact of Covid and obviously has lost its experienced staff, but it is surprising that knowing guests were coming in that more of an effort hadn't been made to spruce up the room beforehand. Unfortunately the buffet meal was the low point - despite the spread, not up to scratch and we struggled to find anything to eat. We were shown to a table in a dining room that felt more like a school canteen but there was no follow up and we weren't offered a drinks menu so it was just water for us. Had the hotel been closer to amenities we would have perhaps considered staying and using alternative restaurants (despite the added cost) but the thought of 3 days here to relax to round off what had been a fabulous holiday was not on the cards and we left the next day. The staff did their best and somehow managed to find 2 sun beds/umbrella to put outside our cabin the next day but sadly it was too little too late. It must be said that overall the staff were lovely making this a difficult decision but in the final analysis this was our first holiday for nearly 2 years and we were not going to spend any longer than necessary in such a place. This could have been a real paradise and we can only hope that changes are quickly made to ensure this is the experience guests have in future.…
