A month after our stay at Mount Vernon we are still enjoying the memory of our experience – 5 nights of real rest and relaxation. Mark was an excellent host, very generous with his time and knowledge of the area, its history and its flora. That really helped us to make the most of our first visit to the Burren....

This place on the Flaggy Shore near Ballyvaughn is a jewel. The proprietor, Mark, is a gracious host and a gourmet chef. The entire house is exquisitely decorated but not overly so. The five bedrooms (all ensuite) were spacious and extremely comfortable with three of the five rooms having panoramic views of Galway Bay. Mt. Vernon was our first stop...

In one word -ripoff. A pervading smell of damp throughout the building, badly heated, and cavalier treatment of guests by the owners. Nice location, but would reccommend you try other accommodation in the area.

We welcome reviews which are carefully thought out and honest expressions of experience here at Mount Vernon. Unfortunately this is not one of them.

Day 1 On arrival house seemed to be deserted found the owner after ten minutes in the garden. Diner at 50 euros no choice worst meal and the most frugal breakfast we had in Ireland. I don't believe they are able to fry eggs! The house was cold with a small fire to heat a very large area. Day 2...

We are sorry to hear that this guest found Mount Vernon disappointing. It would seem from his comments that the experience he had anticipated was not the one he got and that maybe he thought he was staying in a hotel. Mount Vernon is not a hotel, B&B or guesthouse, it is a private country house - a family home...

I knew when I turned up at Mount Vernon that I was in for a real treat but little did I guess just how much of a treat. The lovely Georgian house sits very comfortably into its setting surrounded by wild flower meadows beautiful gardens and of course the Flaggy shore with gently lapping waves. Swallows circled overhead and once...

A fabulous property of immense character in the middle of pretty much nowhere. Welcoming and friendly hosts and a mad dog or two! Thoroughly fabulous.

We stayed for three nights at Mount Vernon and, quite apart from the pleasure of relaxing in a tastefully furnished house with its own history, were delighted by the friendly reception, the comfortable rooms and, as we discovered, the quality of the meals available. We slept soundly in comfortable beds. The breakfast menu offered a wide choice, from ‘continental’ to...

I have never attempted to go on line before to enthuse about a particular spot where I have stayed but Mount Vernon in County Clare in the West of Ireland is breaking my rule of silence. Part of me would like to keep quiet about this magical place but ithese are extraordinary times where every penny counts and here is...

Bellisima, a beautiful and relaxing retreat. From the moment of arrival and being shown to our rooms, - one overlooking the bay, the other the gardens. (Ours was so spacious that it made the kingsize bed complete with Indian wood panelled headboard look small. ) - I knew I would enjoy my stay. We had booked supper ahead, met for...

I was really excited when I learned that Mount Vernon was opening its doors to visitors. It stands back from ‘The Flaggy Shore’, one of my favourite beaches, where The Burren meets the sea. For years, on my walks along the shore, I’d longed to get inside the house, which was once the seaside home of Lady Gregory, an early...

Firstly, we would like to apologise for this lady’s disappointing stay. If she had made her unhappiness known at the time we might have been able to alleviate it in some part. Mount Vernon is our home and we treat our many guests as we would friends of the family whilst at the same time respecting their privacy. With regard...
