If you prefer modern architecture over 18th century opulence you will love the new Golf Lodge. Oxen architects from nearby Cologne have done a great job by giving the lodge a personality that is the polar opposite of the castle next door. The bed is great and breakfast is nice as always.

Schloss Auel is a very charming hotel located north of Lohmar. I've stayed there 205 years after Napoleon and recommend it whether you come to inspect you army as he did or have other business in the area. If you come by train and feel slightly adventurous take the walk from Honrath which gives you a feeling for the surroundings.

The Schloss itself is a 5 star beautiful old castle, located in the Woods. The room was romantic, the settings were beautiful and i must say that the food was amazing. Everything from breakfast, dinner, drinks, etc are still in my mind. We went for a wedding, and the only reason i am giving it a 4 star rating, is...

This is a hotel you will either love or hate. Being a traditional Schloss, it's decor is in keeping with the age of the building and is packed full of character, with each room having a different theme and packed full of antiques. The bedrooms are very comfy and clean and bathrooms spotless. Breakfast is a good selection of hot...

We stayed at this lovely hotel only for one night as a stop over on the trip to Southern Germany. The courtyard of the hotel is quite impressive, looking more like a French chateau rather than a German schloss. We had an excellent room on the first floor with views over the courtyard in one direction and the golf course...

This place has so much history, it should be packed with overseas visitors. Napoleon Bonaparte stayed here, as did one of Russia's Tsars, and the decoration pays homage to times gone by with framed old maps and etchings on the walls. The rooms, though, are completely up to modern standards; ours had been decorated with old photos of Persian empress...

First I would like to say I like this place ... and second a warning .... this place has no elevator / lifts. So if you are carrying heavy luggage and check in after 10 PM then be prepared to pull them by the stairs to your room. Mine was on the 2nd floor. I spent about a week at...

Found this hotel on Expedia.com and it was a great deal. Close enough to Cologne by car yet it sits out in the country and there is a good back road to get there. Hotel is like stepping back in time and the rooms were very comfortable and well designed (especially the bathrooms). Breakfasts were excellent and dining at night...

The hotel is a former manor house/castle which has been carefully restored and well equipped with antique furnitures. The rooms are very spacious and have a really large bath with Italian travertin. The house as an own chapel and a nice library with old books and personal pictures of the owners. We also had a dinner at the restaurant which was...
