Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On a recent golfing trip to the area we were fortunate too come across this little gem of a Hotel, only eight bedrooms but all very comfortable and spotless. The highlight though is the food, the best traditional Irish home cooking we have ever encountered on our many trips. The staff ( all three)are the friendliest we met anywhere.Great value for money,we will be back.

We were not sure how this booking would work out - but we were pleasantly surprised by this well run intimate hotel. Friendly and very helpful staff. We stayed for one night and found the room very comfortable. Slept great on the bed and the bathroom was spacious enough. The room over looked the town but there was no problem with noise. We had a wonderful full Irish breakfast the following morning and it was top quality!!

I visited the GREVILLE arms but just the restaurant, in a village such as granard Initally I thought the food was priced a bit high but The food was nice and the staff in their are a credit to the place. I can't say much more only overall I was happy with the food and service at the GREVILLE arms.

I know nothing about the hotel rooms but I would be happy to leave a review should I stay in one of their rooms. And I think there is great potential for the hotel in terms of accommodation as it is a nice old style hotel,

Arrived in the afternoon to be told the bar would close in 10 mins no food served after 6 pm . Two of us in a group of six could not unlock our door, and the same result when the one and only staff member tried to open it. She then rang the 'manager' who told her to try it again! We asked just to be moved to another room, but staff member told us that the 'manager' was coming to the hotel to try and open the door. This she did and then accused us of meddling with the lock!!!
We were also told that there wouldn't be any breakfast until 10am, but after discussion with the manager again we did get b'fast at 9am. We had also asked for a price reduction 'minus breakfast' but we were not given a satisfactory response.
Signs were in rooms saying there would be a 50Euro charge if keys or remote controls were removed, but 2 of our 3 rooms didn't have a remote control, so no TV. The staff had left the hotel at this stage, so couldn't do anything about it.
Such a shame as it is a beautiful hotel and cleanliness not an issue. We have been to Ireland many times and are currently living here, so have been to many B&B's and hotels but have never encountered the attitude of the manager of this hotel.
Because of the hotel's history it would be great if it was appreciated for that reason and managed accordingly. Needless to say we do not recommend this hotel.

The place was dark and dated but we needed a room in the height of winter (December 2011). The landlady told us the price for 2 would be €80 for the night. The room was cold, the chair collapsed under me, even the TV remote didn't work. They turned the heating on, but when we returned later to leave some stuff, the place was empty; they had left us on our own in a freezing cold, dark building. We could hear the phone ringing as we tried to phone them. The heating had been turned off for no apparent reason. Rather than freeze to death for €80, we grabbed our stuff and left. I don't know if it's actually illegal to leave residents unattended, but if it isn't, it's the epitome of crap service. Maybe they do give good service in peak season, but I won't be returning to find out. An appalling way to treat customers. I thought, what with the way things are, they would try even harder. How wrong can you be...

I have read some bad things about this hotel. However the hotel is full of history and it is a beautiful hotel. The rooms are clean and welcoming. The staff are amazing they work very hard and nothing is too much trouble for them. They go out of there way to make your stay good. I went with my 2 sisters and we had a wonderful time. Maureen and all the staff are so welcoming by the time we left they felt like family. Loved it we will definitely be going back.

When we arrived we were shown to our room on the top floor, we asked if we could have a room on the second floor, we were told that they could swap rooms with someone else as he hadn't booked in yet, we had the second floor room, the bar was open, ( it was tea time) so we expected a restaurant to be open as well, but that was closed, so we had a bag of chips across the road and ate them outside. the Manageress informed us that she does not live on the premises and would be leaving soon, as it is always very quiet so they close in the evenings.

The following day we discovered that we were the only occupants staying in the hotel, scary!!!
Breakfast was very good, staff were very polite, well we did only see one, she was the barmaid, receptionist, waitress & cleaner, most probably the cook as well.

This hotel has got great potential, if the right people were running it

I have stayed at the Greville Arms five times in the last eight years. Each time it has been such a pleasure to stay in such a welcoming Irish community. Tommy, the owner, is a true gentleman and has made us feel at home each time we visit. The staff is also wonderful. Michelle, Maureen, and the rest of the staff have been so accommodating and have always made our stay so much better. The menu in the restaurant downstairs is impressive and the food is cooked to perfection. We always start our day with a quality full Irish breakfast at the Michael Collins restaurant. I would recommend this bar, restaurant, and hotel to my closest friend and anyone else who is looking for a great time in Langford.

Have to say, this hotel was a welcome stopover. I had only stopped in for lunch, but ended up booking a room for a night.
Everything about The Greville Arms ticked the boxes for me... The roast dinner, the friendly welcome, the connections to our history with special memorabilia from the Michael Collins era, the cozy feel of the old style bar and the nice connection with all the customers throughout the evening.
The room was clean and well equipped, and I had a great night's sleep.
Delighted to of discovered this hotel and bar, I will be stopping over again, very soon!

The Greville Arms is conveniently located on the N55 Midway between Athlone and Dundalk. It was recently taken over by new management and for the first time in decades it now offers accommodation. The hotel was once owned by the Kiernan family and Kitty, Michael Collins's fiance lived here. The bar and lounge area is compact in size and the walls are adorned with memorabilia giving a clearer picture of this great love affair. The four of us arrived at 3 PM and the lunch menu was still available. If you like plain simple well cooked food just like mother used to make it, then this is the place for you. I had the plaice and it was cooked to perfection, moist and succulent inside a crumb base. The sirloin of beef was tender and there was no fault with the turkey and ham. They were accompanied by carrot and parsnip purée, cabbage and creamed potato. The vegetables were well seasoned and not overcooked. The portions were very generous in size and we were not able for deserts which are also home-made. The bill for four lunches a tea a coffee and biscuits was €43 which is excellent value for money. There was only one waitress who was "run off her feet." She was super efficient and nobody was left waiting. Service was very prompt and she was very attentive, going back to the kitchen for an extra helping of gravy. Trade was brisk, she waited on tables, cleared tables and served behind the bar. If trade continues to improve extra staff will have to be hired or this girl will burn out.
