Mount Wolseley Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff, with many guests enjoying the well-maintained spaces and entertainment. The hotel boasts a range of praised amenities like a spa and pool, yet some areas could benefit from a refresh. While rooms are generally clean and spacious, a few guests suggest they could use modernization. Service experiences vary, with commendations for attentiveness alongside criticisms for inconsistency. Its picturesque location is mostly appreciated, despite being slightly remote. Cleanliness is typically upheld throughout, but opinions on value lean towards the negative due to cost concerns.

Had the pleasure of visiting Mount Wolseley for the first time this weekend. While my review is overall average, let me explain the reasoning.

The hotel itself upon entry to the main reception is eye catching and well maintained. The staff are welcoming and very friendly/approachable. The rooms however, or at least my own and ones surrounding it, are in poor repair. This is simply not good enough given the photos in the website gallery.
Our own room was tired, dated and suffering damp with plaster detaching from the walls along floor to ceiling cracks. The decor is rather dated, and carpets dirty (although hoovered). The bathroom and shower area was also the subject of many patch up jobs, where at this stage a refresh is what's required. In summary, it was clean and tidy but in need of freshening up.

Back to the hotel and restrictions. Every effort was made by the staff to make me feel safe. They are doing a wonderful job under very restrictive guidelines. Service was good, although slow at times - resorting to ordering a drink half way through the current one. The pool & spa were not available due to oversubscription of bookings due to social distancing, this should be made very clear upon booking. I never got to visit either as a result, even after attempting entry on some cancellation lists.

The evening meal & breakfast in the restaurant were very small portions, although what I had (Chicken salad starters and Beef mains) were very tasty. Breakfast was menu order only, due to restrictions. While hot/fresh, again it's just a shame there wasn't an awful lot of it.

Overall, the hotel staff are doing a great job running the places under such restrictions. All courteous and helpful. Place has great potential with some fresh investment in rooms.

I attended afternoon tea recently with a group. I found the experience disappointing with a lot of room for improvement. The tea was served in cafeteria cups and saucers - no delicate china cups, no doilies, no pretty table cloths and napkins. These luxuries are surely the point of "afternoon tea". The savoury options were dismal and included cold burgers! Who wants burgers for afternoon tea? Also tinned tuna. None of the savouries listed on the sample menu on the website were provided. The vegetarian plate included fish (the same tinned tuna). There was no tea menu and speciality coffees were not available due to machine being broken. Service was cheerful and pleasant, but slow. The sweet options were an improvement but not fairly distributed around the table with some people being given large slices of gateaux and others just mini macaroons and mousse. Incongruously, large croissants and breakfast pastries were also placed on the table. Scones good and maderia cake good. The cost is £22 per person so definitely not worth it.

First visit to here, for a celebratory break, and would have no hesitation in returning, great friendly staff on reception, no problems with the pre-booked break and only had to sign the registration form and not give your life history to check in.

Standard room was a good size, separate toilet from the bathroom which had separate bath and shower, very handy.

Only slight quibble was not being able to regulate the room temperature, probably my inability to use the settings which left the room too warm for our liking, not a bad complaint though on snowy/frosty nights however for most people, should have mentioned it to reception but forgot to do so until checking out and they listed it for checking up on.

There are kids and teen rooms for amusing the younger clients.

Breakfast is self serve buffet and there were the usual hot and cold choices, again the staff here were very helpful and pleasant.

We had dinner in the restaurant which was very good with excellent and prompt service, food quality was great but be careful the portions are large!!

We really enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar where we ate lunch one day and had drinks each night, the food was very good and reasonably priced, best of all were the staff so a big thank you to Adam, Dimitri, Lisa and Melissa who all showed terrific customer relationship and a pleasant attitude, they really are a credit to this hotel.

No hesitation with recommending this hotel.

Just back from a 2 night stay in the self catering lodges in mount woseley. We had 7 in our group. The lodges are very comfortable and excellent value for a larger family group. They are particularly suitable for families with children or young teens who prefer the freedom of a house to a hotel room.
The houses are very well equipped and we cooked breakfast there one of the mornings and found all the utensils that we needed.
The beds were all very comfy and the master bedroom had a lovely sized shower in it.
Overall for the price they were of a very high standard and would definitely recommend. We will definitely return.
We ate in the bar on the first evening. It was super busy and was a little slow but food was nice when it arrived. Starters came out with mains etc but this did not impact on our overall enjoyment. The waitresses and supervisor were extremely helpful.
We also ate breakfast in the main restaurabt on one of the mornings. There was a good choice on the buffet and everyone was happy.
The kids also used the pool, playground with zip line and teen games room all of which were very enjoyable.
The hotel is only minutes away from the chocolate garden of ireland which we visited on our way down also.
Overall an excellent location for a short family break and much better value than a standard hotel room stay for a group our size.

Posted and sanitiser is widely available. The bedroom was large and the beds were very comfortable. Our room had a separate toilet to the shower room which was so handy considering it was a triple room. We also availed of the spa - the wet rooms are closed due to Covid restrictions but we had the radio mud treatment and it was divine - definitely recommend. We were able to use the hydro pool and the foot spa as well as the beach room. We had to pre book dinner and breakfast but we welcome to have pre dinner drinks an hour before dinner and also have drinks for an hour after dinner all in a separate well spaces out lounge area. The food and drinks were on the expensive side. Mains were included in our package but to add a starter and dessert was €20pp. The cocktails were very well made and all service was very quick. We also availed of afternoon tea and all our dietary requirements were met with no extra charge or hassle. I would without a doubt recommend this hotel for any staycation!

We had a lovely stay mount wolseley, hotel is beautiful, food in the restaurant is just gorgeous and breakfast was lovely too.

Staff are very friendly especially the young people working in the bar.

Rooms spotless, only thing is we had to ask cleaning staff to service our room late Saturday evening, even though we had a service room sign up day,

On our last night we couldn't get the television working or charge phones,it was too late to call anyone, but the next day when we were leaving it was a bit frustrating as I couldn't use hairdryer, seemed to be a fuse gone or something.

But overall we had a lovely stay and will definitely be back to mount wolseley.

Hotel:
The rooms in the hotel were all lovely, spotless clean and comfy beds. We couldn't get the air conditioning to work so the rooms were quite warm but better than being cold. The bathroom was lovely and it's convenient having the toilet and shower separate. The fridge was nice to have to keep our drinks cold.

Dinner was nice and we had afternoon tea booked too which was also good, we were even given takeaway boxes to take some home because there were lots left over.

At Breakfast there were plenty of food options and I enjoyed mine apart from the scrambled egg which was full of water. The glasses that the juice were served in were dirty, just out of the glasses I picked up myself two still had someone's lipstick on them so not properly cleaned

There were 10 of us girls staying and because we were booked in for spa treatments at 1pm the reception staff accommodated us by allowing us to keep one of the 5 rooms we had booked until 3pm the day we were checking out to allow us to shower and get changed after as the spa have no facilities for this.

Spa:
If you don't have the Thermal Suite included in your package I wouldn't bother paying for it, the thermal pool was just a small warm pool the only thing that really worked in it was the waterfall feature, all other buttons if you pressed them nothing happened. The experience showers were broken with barely a trickle of water coming out of them and nothing different happened no matter which experience you pressed in both of the showers. Steam room was smelly, like a damp mop.

We had booked in for treatments but on arrival at the spa we were told one of the staff had gone home sick so two of us that had booked in for a massage would have to accept a dry flotation instead. Everyone was looking forward to their massage including myself so this was very disappointing but I took the dry float because nobody else wanted to change their choice of treatment and it wasn't a relaxing experience at all. The room wasn't soundproof and I could not relax as you can hear everything outside, people talking in the pool and footsteps passing the door. It was also just like lying on a warm water bed and I felt very dehydrated after. My friend who also couldn't have the massage and had to take the dry float also didn't enjoy it and felt dehydrated and unwell after. Both of us felt we missed out on what would have been the highlight of our stay.

The reason we came to this hotel was for the spa package to treat ourselves after a long lockdown and it was very disappointing

A few friends went to Mount Wolseley on recommendation. We booked a lodge house and spa treatments during mid term and we were advised when booking that the hotel was fully booked.

Our lodge house was fabulous, our spa treatments equally fabulous, sadly where this hotel disappoints/lacks is in service. The hotel was fully booked but seemed very ill prepared and inadequately staffed to cater for the volume of guests.

We went to the hotel for dinner at 20.30 as you are unable to reserve a table in the bar, every table was full and there appeared to be only 3 very harassed staff working, which resulted in a wait for a table and a 1 hour 15 min wait for our food to arrive, add to this our wine choice was sold out and one of our food choices. So frustrating and seems like very poor planning when a hotel is booked to capacity.

One of our group went to speak to someone about the very slow service and lack of staff and ending up speaking to the manager on duty Natasha who went above and beyond to remedy our issues. We decided to avoid a repeat the following evening so booked Fredricks restaurant, a much better experience, delicious food and our waiter Tadhg was superb.

On the day of departure, we arrived to reception to checkout at 12pm as advised when booking - we arrived to a queue of approximately 40 guests checking in for a Bridge event. Only 2 people on reception and no one working on checking guests out - we queued for roughly 25 minutes before Natasha, the lovely duty manager who had looked after us previously came to our assistance and arranged for us to be checked out!

In short, the hotel needs better planning to cope with volume of guests, to implement a few systems to make the service side a little smoother and ultimately more staff to execute the plans!

Our second day was

Just returned from a very relaxing week long stay in one of the resort houses. The house was exactly what we needed and very comfortable allowing room for teenagers and giving us the option of self catering. With 4 rooms, 7 beds, 2 bathrooms and a downstairs toilet these houses could easily accommodate 2 small families sharing. Due to covid restrictions the pool and gym had to be pre booked in advance so that requires forward planning of activities if you wish to use these facilities. The playground was used several times a day by our youngest daughter and I used the 1km long walking track as a jogging route. As a non golfing family we did not get to use the golf course which takes up the bulk of the ground. We had dinner on two nights in Frederick's restaurant. The food is excellent although at €42 each a little pricey. The only downside to the stay was that the house we had overlooked the utility area at the back of the hotel. Unlike the rest of the grounds this is the one area that isn't extensively planted. If it was then we would not have been looking at laundry delivery every time we went into the garden. The only thing the house was missing was a parasol sun shade for the table in the garden. There are plenty of activities nearby, including walks and a chocolate factory and Tullow is well served with supermarkets, restaurants and take aways which deliver to the resort houses. We had previously stayed in the hotel when our children were younger and we are looking forward to a return trip to what is a great location for a family holiday.

Prime example of a hotel taking advantage of post covid boom in hotel sector. Stayed for 1 night last week with my wife, baby & my parents and thank god it was not for any longer. The lack of attention to basic Hygiene and Health & Safety was astounding. The leisure facilities were by far the worst I have experienced in any hotel in Ireland. When we arrived we could see the changing facilities were not functioning and were directed to a 'temporary changing room' . This was not a changing room- it was a hall with no lockers, no running water and about a dozen SINGLE MAN TENTS for people to use to get changed in!! Nobody could wash or shower as there was no shower facilities or water. I had to change my daughter on the floor.
The pool was overloaded with chlorine, presumably to counteract the lack of shower facilities so we left abruptly. Our bathing clothes needed to be machine washed separately when we got home to get the overpowering smell of chlorine off them. People were entering and leaving the pool (presumably including from the gym) without wash facilities all day so we did not stay! The lack of respect shown to guests with this alone beggars belief.
Quite simply the fact that Mount Woseley deemed it acceptable to expose its guests to these conditions rather than close the facility is disgusting. Clearly they prioritised maintaining their rates (pretending the facilities were available) so didnt mention anything and simple exposed their guests to it. Everyone I spoke to was extremely annoyed at the pop up tents in a hall as changing facilities and the lack of basic hygiene observed within the changing/pool area.
I had requested a cot for my 6 month old baby in the room and when it arrived I put it together to find a 16 inch tear at the base of the mesh alongside were the baby sleeps- there is a very real threat to any baby getting caught during the night so thank god I noticed it! This is for me the most concerning and worrying aspect of our stay and I asked that this cot never be shared with another guest as god only knows the consequences if this tear went unnoticed.
After contacting Mount Woseley I was given what seems to be the standard Mount Woseley response of 'sorry to hear about your experience we look forward to welcoming you back in the future'. My follow up email was then ignored. Dont expect to get what you pay for.... or adherence to basic hygiene or health & safety processes for that matter.

We stayed as a couple but would return again with our children. The rooms are very spacious, beds extremely comfortable and dining options very good. There are lovely seating areas all over the hotel which work for children and also a lovely library with board games, kids room and leisure centre. had breakfast and dinner in the hotel and both were lovely and relaxed even though there were two functions taking place at the time. Would return again and found all the staff very pleasant and professional
