Detailed Reviews
48 of us stayed here on Sunday 14th April.
I had a double twin room with a fabulous view of the harbour and mainland.
The beds were really comfortable and the bathroom was spotless with a lovely hot shower and plenty of toiletries and soft towels. We all dined in the hotel restaurant and the food was really lovely. I had fish and chips. The fish was really fresh and light. We took over the bar for the evening until closing and the staff were really efficient and friendly and didn't mind our sing song one bit. Breakfast the next morning was so nice after the night before's late night. I had the full Irish and there was no shortage of tea and toast to go with it. Service was really friendly and efficient. I would have no hesitation in staying here again. A charming hotel that has some really nice features. It is situated right on the harbour with lovely views. One of our group went for a lovely swim off the harbour when we arrived on the Sunday.

My wife and I were married last year in the Royal and it was such a brilliant experience. From the instant that we met the staff to walk around the hotel, we knew that the Royal was the place in which we wanted to get married. It has such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere that put us at ease. We had many zoom calls, phone calls and meet ups and the staff were always so kind, engaging and respectful throughout. In the run up to the wedding itself, our tastings were very constructive and the chef welcomed feedback which was very helpful for us and the food/wine that we would like, which was important to us. In the week of the wedding, the staff gave us great access to the function room and we were able to spruce up the room in our own personal way. They also did such a brilliant job setting up the room and tables, they looked gorgeous. Everyone at the wedding commented on how lovely the staff were, how beautiful the venue was and how tasty the food was (particular shout out for the scallops which were out of this world). The second day was also delightful and the hotel was flexible about the start time of the BBQ and weather depending whether people could sit inside or outside. Again, it was such a reassuring thing and we were so grateful. We couldn’t recommend the Royal enough as a venue to get married in. Thanks again for all our wonderful memories from the weekend. We stayed in the deluxe sea view room and the view from the bay window was beautiful. The room itself was nicely decorated but the bathroom needed some attention ( shower door and toilet seat both had damaged hinges). The staff were friendly and our dinner in the bar was perfectly fine, hotel fare. Breakfast was disappointing. We expected better than tinned fruit and poor coffee when we were paying 185 euro per night. All in all this hotel is perfectly located on a beautiful island and worth a visit but we felt it was overpriced .

This is the second time myself and my family have stayed at the royal hotel valentia. I didn't realise my mistake until my daughter had reminded me of the hotel from 2 years ago. As soon as you walk into the reception area, you get a smell of mould and dampness. It's a very powerful smell and you cant miss it as it hits you as soon as you arrive. Not only is it foul, it is extremely dangerous for the hotel staff and residents. The room itself was alright, however there was a thick layer of dust all over the bathroom. If you are a light sleeper, think again about getting a goodnights rest. You can hear absolutely everything that goes on around you in the other rooms, a cough, sneeze, flushing the toilet. We were also awake till 2-3am as you can hear perfectly the music they play down stairs off a speaker and the other residents laughing and talking. I went down around 1 am and there was no night staff on the desk. On top off all that, we had dinner down in the lounge. When I ordered a bottle of wine, the wine came opened. When I questioned our waiter, Sasha, she didn't seem to have an answer and went and got another bottle. For our starter we ordered the brei to share. The brei came out drowning in jam, and had an off putting smell. When we complained that there was a smell and it was drowning in jam and we didnt like it, Sasha was smirking and replied 'well some people do' and walked away. I find that very hard to believe. She didn't let the manager know we were unhappy and nobody came to ask us how everything is. For the mains we ordered fish and chips and the burger. They were both nice, however a little too greasy. Even the burger bun was greasy. Once our plates were cleared away, a young bartender with black hair came over and took my empty wine glass and the bottle without asking if we were done or if we wanted another one. The staff are rude and incompetent. I would recommend staying in a B&B instead.

The Royal Valentia is a historical hotel that has been recently renovated but still maintains it's old world charm. The public areas are spotless with quality carpeting and original hardwood floors. The view from our room was directly out onto the harbour it was really nice. The Full Irish Breakfast was delicious. The menu is a bit limited for evening meals but they were of homemade quality. The wifi is limited to a few public seating areas and in the restaurant bar. Definitely a great location for a relaxing break away.

I stayed in the Royal Hotel Valentia on a motorcycle trip down the Wild Atlantic Way. It was very good value - €109 for an ensuite double room (single occupancy) with a huge breakfast. I booked directly with the hotel via there website. It was €20 cheaper than with booking.com. The hotel is on the coast with great views and has a lovely bar and restaurant. It doesn't have a car park, but there is ample free street parking on the quay in front of the hotel.
The restaurant is super popular, so book in advance if you want to eat. I tried to eat without booking on a Saturday night and it was heaving. There seem to only be two alternatives in Knightstown - a bistro pub which serves various types of seafood + chips, and a more regular pub that does takeaway pizza. I went for a 12" pepperoni pizza, which was €17 with a pint of pale ale.
I rode in over the bridge, but the next day headed back to the mainland using the continuous car ferry which shuttles back and forth from just outside the hotel. It saved quite a bit of time and costs €4 for a motorcycle, probably about €8 for a car.

The Royal Hotel provided an absolutely wonderful wedding reception for our daughter's wedding on 18th June catering for 121 people. The food was delicious and generous, the service unobtrusive and all the staff were really pleasant, friendly and helpful and the ambiance was perfect. The room looked beautiful, just perfect for a wedding. Many of us stayed in the hotel - the rooms were very comfortable and full of character and provided all amenities you could need. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The location is superb - the rooms looking over the harbour are very special. We are so delighted we used the Royal and highly recommend it.

This hotel is in the centre of knightstown with views of the harbour and mainland beyond. The staff are so attentive and friendly that we were made to feel really welcome. The food was top class and we had a sing song in the bar afterwards. It's also very historic going back to victorian times.

I have just spent a wonderful three nights at The Royal Valentia Hotel . The hotel is a beautiful old building with all modern amenities and faces Valentia harbour . The food was fantastic and service in the restaurant was superb with very attentive, friendly and welcoming staff.
Brid in reception looked after me from the minute I made my booking and throughout my visit and Mags on reception was also very helpful and welcoming.
Thanks to all the wonderful staff. I'll definitely be back!!

Food was below average, and definitely not worth almost €20 for fish and chips. Staff were also not great. They were not rude but were also not very pleasant. Our mains took 50 minutes to come out and we had to ask for a dessert menu after waiting 20 minutes. In total we were there for 2 and a half hours for a 3 course meal. This would be more understandable if it was busy, but there were only a couple other tables at the time. Very disappointing.
