We recently stayed the night in the Royal hotel with our one year old. It’s in a stunning location, located on the island of Valentia. The room was beautifully decorated with a spectacular view, overlooking the harbour. It was spacious and had all the amenities we needed. The staff were also wonderful in helping us get settled in. We ate in the restaurant downstairs and enjoyed some delicious local seafood. All in all a fantastic stay in a beautiful location.

This was our first time staying at the Royal Hotel Valentia. A hotel steeped in the wonderful history of the island, the slate quarry, the transatlantic cable. The hotel has been restored its former glory by its current owners. Many of the original features, and furniture have been retained and there were lots of original photo's of the island to enjoy. There was a wonderful atmosphere in the hotel. The sea view from our bedroom was spectacular. The bed was really comfortable and the room was immaculate. The friendly staff and the delicious food served at the hotel made us feel "right at home" in the Royal. There are so many things to do on and around the island...visit to the Slate Quary, the Heritage Museum, boat trip to Skellig Michael, a trip to Geokaun summit, the Tetrapod Trackway as well as boating and other water based acitivities. We loved our stay at the Royal Hotel. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. We will be back!

I stayed in the Royal Hotel Valentia on a motorcycle trip down the Wild Atlantic Way. It was very good value - €109 for an ensuite double room (single occupancy) with a huge breakfast. I booked directly with the hotel via there website. It was €20 cheaper than with booking.com. The hotel is on the coast with great views and has a lovely bar and restaurant. It doesn't have a car park, but there is ample free street parking on the quay in front of the hotel. The restaurant is super popular, so book in advance if you want to eat. I tried to eat without booking on a Saturday night and it was heaving. There seem to only be two alternatives in Knightstown - a bistro pub which serves various types of seafood + chips, and a more regular pub that does takeaway pizza. I went for a 12" pepperoni pizza, which was €17 with a pint of pale ale. I rode in over the bridge, but the next day headed back to the mainland using the continuous car ferry which shuttles back and forth from just outside the hotel. It saved quite a bit of time and costs €4 for a motorcycle, probably about €8 for a car.

It was our first time staying at The Royal Hotel on Valentia Island and it was simply pure bliss. Perfectly located, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, it emitted an olde world charm and a very relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff coupled with delicious food made our stay even more enjoyable. The Royal Hotel had many historic, original features that gave it a unique ambiance. The most stunning feature for me personally was being able to gaze at the ever changing sea while lying in the comfortable and cosy bed. There was lots to do on the island with many beautiful walks, interesting visitor centres and obviously lots of water based activities. Overall it was a truly relaxing experience and it felt genuinely authentic. The Royal Hotel felt as if it possessed a palpable integrity and a loveable character within it's wall's. We simply felt truely relaxed, safe and enveloped in it's warm embrace. We will definitely be back. A massive thank you to all of the professional staff that made our stay exceptional and extremely happy.

It is an old Victorian establishment and looks a bit old. They are obviously catering for the current tourist and possible locals. We had lunch in the bar and this location by the window was fine. Food promptly delivered and OK but definitely pub standard. Take the ferry over to the mainland and use the pub - we found that out later.

My son and I went to the Valentia Royal Hotel for lunch with friends. The staff are not very accommodating. I wanted a plain cheese burger and nothing else for my child and there was a burger meal on the menu for €16.50 which I wasn’t going to pay for just a burger. Anyway they wouldn’t make just a burger for my kid so we got plan pasta in the end. I got soup and a latte. Soup wasn’t very nice. I’d rate the soup 5 outta 10. I personally wouldn’t eat here again. Staff weren’t very nice. Service was very long and had to wait ages for food. I’d give it 2 stars outta 5 for here. Prices are expensive here as well.

This is a sweet and welcoming little hotel, in a small village that one can find as they enjoyed the drive around the ring of Kerry. The accommodations are comfortable enough, and there is dining on site.

We stayed for a long weekend in June 2022. Our room was spacious & clean. The hotel restaurant is great & breakfast in the morning was very good. Majority of staff were friendly, however there were one or two exceptions.

Stayed mid week, such a pleasant visit, clean and comfortable with nice amiable staff and the food was delicious. We have stayed in far more expensive and lauded hotels but the Royal Valentia is up there with any of them. Will definitely be returning.
