Moored on the Crinan Canal today. Visited the Cairbaan Hotel for a couple of beers. Alan the barman was extremely efficient and friendly. An extremely clean and safe hotel in the Covid days. We will return.
Had a really good meal here a few years back, so returned. Welcome was a bit strange from aggressive man (AM) who managed to make "can I help you" sound like "why are you here?" AM asked us to sit down while he searched for a table. He returned 5 mins later, not to offer us a table but to confront a lady at the bar who had asked for something to be brought "what is the problem" he glowered at her which startled me and her! When he finished with the lady (agreeing her request), I said to AM we would be happy with a table outside since it was quieter. He went toe to toe with me and asked sternly "why what is your problem?" I said I had no problem but was offering to sit outside. AM stormed off. We left. Very strange. Pity, the food looked good.
Had a wonderful lunch with family, cheese soufflé for starters...rich and tasty flavour but still incredibly light. Fabulous main courses at the table...prawns, beef stroganoff, bests Nachos ever followed by sticky toffee pudding, ice cream and a generous serving of butterscotch sauce. All served with perfectly chilled fizz and some punchy wines. Looking forward to a return trip very soon.
six of us enjoyed the food - starters mains desserts, although £6.75 for a one course kids meal of tiny burger chips and beans was expensive. The service was very poor, one pleasant waitress only seen once, then a waiter who seemed to be given zero training. Noticed by other customers as well. Dessert menu was in dull colours on a blackboard in a dim corner. Even waiter struggled to read it, till another customer passed us a hand scrawled scrappy cardboard menu . Even when paying the bill the barman could not manage please or thank you. We did not feel welcome.
Booked in for tea one evening, just two of us. We sat down at our table and it took 15 minutes for us to receive a menu, another 20 for our order to be taken. Meanwhile staff members seemed to be stood around watching people wait... Food came out and was delicious, we had mussels and prawn cocktail to start and the burger and pork loin specials for mains. Both courses were great and came out in good time, but took a long time for staff to clear any of our plates. Social distancing measures were good, tables well spaced out with plenty of hand sanitiser stations to boot. Nice food but not somewhere I'd go back to for a quick bite to eat.
