Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We spent a week at penzion 2004 over 2011/12 new year period and could not have had a more homely place to stay.
Arriving from Bratislava after a long plane and train Journey, on a cold winter night, you step in to the warmth of Eva's Penzion and home.
Eva works tirelessly to make all her geusts feel at home. She will sit and chat with each one you in Slovakian,English, Czech, Ukranian or Russian. I dare say if you were German, French or Mongolian she would have given that a crack too. The rooms are warm and spacious ( we shared our family room with our 8 year old daughter and there was plenty of room for even her mess!) - The shower room has plenty of room and an adequate shower. everywhere is very clean and tidy. The view of the Tatras from our room was lovely - especially when caught by the spectacular sunrise.
Breakfast was a plentiful supply of cereals, breads, meats, cheeses, yoghurts, fresh fruit, preserves, coffee, Juice and even freshly made scramble egg or sausage if requested.
The walls are decorated by vintage ski gear and photos of the exploits of Eva's husband Vlado as a ski coach of the USA and Japanese Olympic Alpine ski teams. We even met a son and daughter back to visit mum from various far flung parts of the globe. They are all a charming family and a credit to the heart and soul, the beating life blood of this establisment, Eva. She is up at midnight greeting new guests from Russia and up at 5.30 am seeing off Brits , catching the early train. all with a cheery smile - she is a gem!
Her accomodation is very reasonably priced and when you chuck in 1.50e for 500ml of beer and 8e for a 3 course evening meal why bother to leave? For 8e you get a hearty home made soup to start followed by pork or chicken in various guises plus salad and spuds. To finish you get a tasty pud, lovely. It is all basic good home cooked fare and there was nothing I did not like and not able to clean the plate.
Eva even put on a special New years eve bash for everyone in the Penzion that night, Food and drink a plenty, a warm welcome and music to dance. At midnight the Brits sang Auld Lang syne, the Russians and slovaks sang - god knows what - and we all went out in minus 6 degrees to watch an amazing firework display go off in every house in the village - I don't think I had ever seen anything quite like it - it was great.
In short Eva is a hostess, one in a million , and the Tatras are a great place to visit for skiing or other winter sports. Aparently it has scenery and history to die for in the summer - I would urge all Brits to visit this great undiscovered beautiful country and it's industrous and likeable people, and if you do, then stay with Eva at Penzion 2004, she is worth every penny!

A great place to stay in the tatra mountains!
The hosts, Eva and Vlado are incredible, they will help you plan every part of your trip in the tatra mountains.
The rooms are great, large, clean and comfortable, breakfast is really good.
All in all, this was a great experience and we would definitely go there again, and so should you!

cooked. When the weather is fine, you can have breakfast outside and start looking at the Tatra's right away. This august, 2013, we stayed for 4 nights in Penzion 2004 in Stara Lesna., Slowakije.

First thing to say about this accomodation is the fantastic view on the mountains: located quite close to the High Tatra's (3km), you can see the Tatra's all day and see them vanish at night.

The welcome by hostess Eva (& later Dimitri) was very friendly, the two bedroom-appartment was quite spacious with a nice balcony, clean, although some travellers might find the beds a little bit too hard (which can be easily solved by using a extra matrass, as we always take one Ikea-layer with us).
Breakfast is fine, not luxurious like in some big hotels, but everything you need is there or can be

The fact that when you stay in this accomodation, you enter a kind of skiing-museum as well, is an extra bonus. We won't tell you why this museum is in the Penzion, you have to find it out for yourselves. No doubt that the host Dimitri is a skiing-enthousiast ...

The hostess gave us maps, advice, lent us some money when we ran out of it (the ATM is on the mountain ..) and everyrthing. You will feel rather comfy in Penzion 2004 ..

And when we forgot our IPad-charger, they sent it home after they found it ... great.

Recommended.

I have just called them to get information about my Seven Year old son who is staying there with my ex husband. I could not talk to my son for long hours and I was very worried about him. I explained my reason and their answer was “ we do not care. “ The owners were very rude. I just wanted to know that my son is safe but they cut off the line. I called them back again but they were extremely impolite.

We stayed in October 2012. Eva and Vlado are amazing hosts, and we have decided to extend our stay. The breakfast was good, and the homemade dinner was excellent. Our room was big and clean. The area is amazing, and Eva gave us wonderful advice for tracks and different activities.

I and my close buddy stayed at the Pension 2004 very recently. The clean and comfortable room where we stayed had some necessary amenities and good internet connection. It had a nice balcony too from where we could view the surrounding region. The bathroom was clean and had a nice shower in it. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. They take great efforts to ensure that you feel welcomed. The skiing experience was great. The services provided at Pension were great. We loved the breakfast that was served. The drinks delivered to our room were superb. We simply loved them. The laundry service was good too.

Just returned from ski holiday where we met the most friendly and helpful family who own pension 2004. They make you very welcome so if you are looking for a new ski experience you should try Slovakia. Ask David to cook you his cheesecake which is the best we have ever tasted! Travelled with mountain paradise where we met Tereska who is one of the tour company partners. Really knowledgeable and helpful. Not huge number of ski runs but they are varied and challenging but you will need to visit more than one resort if staying for a week.

The hosts were very welcoming and gracious, and the home-cooked breakfasts were hearty and tasty. Our room was large but still felt cozy, and we had an amazing view of the Tatras from our balcony. We woke up to the sounds of birds chirping and water rushing through a local stream; it was very peaceful.

For more practical considerations, we found limited dining opportunities in the small town of Stara Lesna - while we were very happy with the only restaurant open nearby, Monti's, restaurant choices were limited. In the room, the mattresses could have been a bit softer, and the wifi was spotty, but overall, it was a great stay. While the owners let us keep our beers in their fridge to keep cold, a small fridge or access to an ice machine would have been a handy way to keep our drinks and any leftover food cold. I don't have a lot of experience with penzions - perhaps this is normal, but - I did miss having that option.

All in all, we had a great stay, talked to the owners over a few cold beer, played with their adorable if slightly sad dog Bella, and had a great stay. We certainly felt at home, and would return again. It was a great home base for visiting a number of sights in the Tatra mountains.

We had nice and big room. The owners were very nice. They helped us to adjust our plans to the weather conditions. We are going to come back there.
The wi-fi range could be a little bit better in the room.
