Lovely website but it starts which your booking. They ask you to pay the full amount by bank transfer before you arrive, and when we went there, we knew the reason. The rooms are old fashioned (we had the biggest appartment), the restaurant is, sorry, but it is just ugly, the breakfast buffet looks like set up in a hotel frequented by tourgroups, no charme whatsoever. We tried the dinner, and we did not go for. Second time, we actually left one night early because of this, we had expected a Chateau with fine dining, well you can ot get it more wrong. After being out for the whole day, the rooms where still not cleaned and made up (as I mentioned, we had the biggest and most expensive apartment) and we decided to leave, just to never return. Could be a noble house, but that needs more professional management and a better designer.

We stayed the entire weekend for a close friend's wedding. The castle/hotel is beautiful! Rooms are big and spacious and decorated in an historical style. Lovely touches throughout the castle. The staff make it! They were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Taught us a few words (not our native tongue). Let us sample local drinks. Helpful day after day and always with a smile. Would definitely recommend.

I was in Liptovsky Hradok for a wedding, and there isn't a huge choice of hotels in the vicinity. This was the only one within reasonable walking distance of the reception venue, so was the obvious choice.

There's no getting away from it, this is an odd place, and I must admit I found parts of it pretty creepy. A skeleton in bed in a hallway, and a headless mannequin in period costume outside a function room is not really my idea of inviting! There was some fairly random taxidermy around the place which was a bit disconcerting, but I guess it adds to the "historical" nature of the place.

My room was massive, with plenty of storage and the bed was pretty comfortable with decent linen. However, there was no shower which wasn't ideal, and no air conditioning/fans which in August was pretty hot.

The food at the restaurant was okay, but the service was bad - miserable waiting staff and very slow. You're better off heading to the pizza restaurant up the road!

We booked table by phone many days in advance for saturday night diner, when receiving our family from France.Waiter on phone told us that we have to be absolutly at 7.30pm the latest on restaurant as they are full and they need to ensure service.

Therefore we came at 7.30pm. 4 tables occupied into all restaurant, within 1 table occupied by people drinking a beer only, leaving after 10mn here.

Our table booked was not arranged nither prepared, even napkin were dirty!!!!
Chairs on 1 side only...

It was us to organiw=ze the table and almost serve it.

We received menus after few minutes and choosed quickly main dish.

Dishes were well prepared and cooked. Good cooker.

Then at 8.30pm, we asked for desert and they told us that kitchen is closed and we can t order anything!!!!!!

A saturday night!!!!! And they were pissed when we told them that it s unbelievable that they told us when we booked that it ll be full and we have to be there at 7.30pm when nothing was ready, no one almost there, and they just close kitchen w/o proposing us to order desert by advance!

A REAL PITY AND NON PROFESSIONALISM!!!!

And price was very high for such service!

Dear Mr Traveller8071, Thank you very much for your time reviewing our restaurant, it is much appreciated. We are sorry to hear that the experience you had at our place, was not one of the best one you have had as we pride ourselves in providing quality food and service at all times. You enjoyed the food and that is a great news for us and thank you kindy for appreciating our cuisine. After checking your other reviews, quite a few of them were average, below average and poor, most of them, in regards to the service you received, and that certainly doesn’t make you the easiest customer to please. We would like to apologise for everything that made you write such a review of our place, your concerns have been noted, investigated and death with, so thank you for that and for the future we will try to make sure that our customers will always feel great and have a memorable experience, that is what we are trying to achieve with all our guests equally.

We have visited the castle for a getaway weekend together with my lovely wife and enjoyed it very much. As the castle is located in the heart of Liptov there is plenty to do, visiting the High or Low Tatras, going for a boat ride on the huge Liptovska Mara lake, visiting one of the great caves or just hanging out on the beautiful castle terrace for a coffee or at the small lake next to it. The castle itself is beautiful with many artefacts like knights armor, various paintings or other decoration that lends it a truly medieval atmosphere. The dining is great, food looks and tastes wonderful and the staff is always happy to help. The jacuzzi is always a welcome addition to a relaxing weekend and together with the pool and sauna next to it we felt really pampered. We would recommend the stay and will definitely return to this great place.

P.S. if youre there be sure to check out the lookout point above the castle, the view is breathtaking!

We didn't stay here but did visit one evening for food and drinks. This is not the place for a romantic couple as when we visited they only had large tables for 6 or more, which made sitting near awkward. If you are still eating your main course after 9pm, be prepared to be refused desert. We were not the only dinners who experienced this service. Not all options were available on the menu but we were only told this after we had ordered and waited 10 mins, also no menu was brought to assit with our new selection. The food was a little dearer than other places but by no means expensive. The food was well presented and the meal itself was enjoyable. Castle is beautiful.

Having eaten out every night for a week long holiday, there are better places to eat out nearby.

I was wondering for a long time where should I take my friend who came visit us from Australia and I will never regret this decision!
The accommodation was just perfect and the chambers were beautiful and comfortable with everything we needed - we felt like princesses :)
What I appreciated the most were kind people (staff). I think this made our days here so nice.
We enjoyed perfect food and evening atmosphere with a glass of wine.
We received many tips for trips and information about Liptov region as well. I could show my friend a beautiful part of Slovakia and I could enjoy everything as well. When we came after hiking spa and wellness before the dinner was amazing.

We will come back for sure! :)

I've had dinner here once in April 2013 which was classy elegant and had all the little touches and high level of service , then stayed overnight in August 2013 and again it was superb . Tonight we've returned for dinner . The dining room was bare , the candle wasn't lit after I asked , the food order was wrong , the driver got the alcoholic drink ( we swapped), food came Luke warm , they didn't have any Gin and many other things on the menu were not available . service was polite but slow and mostly absent , it was an expensive mistake . Picked up dessert from Tesco , now munching at our holiday accommodation . I'm half Slovak and half English , have visited Slovakia for years and never had such poor service nor been so disappointed with the food . They're sophisticated chefs in the most humble of venues. I really hope the management will get a grip so that the service matches the charming stunning and beautiful old castle hotel .

We chose the Grand Castle to celebrate my husband's recent big birthday with family members. We had spent time there in the past; sitting in the beautiful garden in summer and dining there from time to time over the last few years. A few years ago we were given a guided tour by a very enthusiastic manager and vowed to spend a night in the castle on some special occasion in the future. We were not disappointed. Our welcome was warm, our rooms were exactly as they appear in the photos: furnished with antiques and sympathetically decorated to preserve the feeling of an ancient castle. The beds were comfortable (although not as medieval as they might have been - which may be a good thing!). The roll-top bath was a modern model but was very luxurious and looked exactly as it should. My fellow guests spent a very happy hour in the Wellness Spa and came out looking refreshed and very happy. Dinner was delightful. My brother in law enjoyed the Ballroom Dumplings which have been a staple on the menu for a long time; the duck with red cabbage was tender and delicious and I particularly enjoyed a delicious chestnut torte for pudding. My husband was given a special birthday cake and candle with his name and (advanced) age written in chocolate sauce around the plate. We would recommend the food, the ambience, the very good Slovak beer brewed at Banksa Stiavnica and the very hearty and friendly welcome we received. This hotel truly is a gem.
