Detailed Reviews
Our experience at Podere Castellare was just simply incredible. And for many many reasons.
First of all the people who run this place are fantastic. Adriano, the manager, is an incredible person and such a heartwarming spirit who made us feel at home the moment we stepped through the door.
The whole place has a beautiful aesthetic and the interior design is has so much quality and style whilst being true to the surroundings and the nature that this gem is a part of. Felt like a chic interior magazine and we loved it. Clean and neat with everything we needed.
THE FOOD IS INSANE! Like f***ing INCREDIBLE and all local.
The breakfast was a feast and we sat for hours and enjoyed it. Very accommodating for any allergies or preferences (vegan, gluten-free etc).
The pool area was so nice and so quiet. No music. No roads. Just silence. So much peace and quiet and we felt like we found paradise.
One night Adriano set up a massive projector and we had an outdoor cinema in the evening breeze with the stars. So romantic and just an amazing stay through and through!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We will definitely be back!!!

We had the most wonderful stay here. The views are absolutely breathtaking and the whole place is beautiful and relaxing. The apartment (cipresse) was lovely with its own private garden and bbq. What really made our holiday outstanding were the wonderful staff - Francesca is a fabulous and lovely chef and we will never forget our family cookery class making ragu and gnocci. Tomasso was a great waiter, kind and helpful and we appreciated our Italian lessons. Valbona was so helpful and we have come home with plenty of the divine gin! Thank you for a lovely stay- we will be back!

Podere Castellare is located in a perfect place, near Firenze, Siena, Montalcino and in the middle of the Chianti Area. Everyday you can choose a different location to visit or spend your time in the swimming pool, tennis court or sauna.
For ladies (I've seen my wife..) it's perfect because it's in the middle of outlet area (Prada, D&G, The Mall).
Giada and Graziano are very helpful and it's seems to be in a family.
Very Very good!

Recently stayed here with family. Tuscany is wonderful, the farm itself is nice but we won't return.
We were arriving late and booked dinner at the farm. When letting the owners know that we were arriving late - we were also told that actually their kitchen was closed that day so we had to eat before coming. Not a good start to let your guests know there is no food when we were due to arrive. Luckily we found food for us and the kids but that meant arriving even later than planned.
There was a mix up about the "new" 2 bed apartment we booked - which was new to book, but not actually new as it used to be where the current owners live. But that was ok and we changed to two twin bedrooms instead. The twin rooms was much better. The apartment had none of the trimmings, like the farm made soap, etc, and didn't come with everyday cleaning. there was even a dirty shirt hanging in one of the bedrooms and the place needed a clean. The kitchenette is old, and the furniture as well - like an old lazy boy in the corner - not very chique or in keeping with the rustic look. the dining table was slanted and falling apart.
The farm itself is ok. But the farm has dogs who kept barking at our kids, so the kids could not enjoy their stay or play outside. Which also meant we couldn't enjoy the farm either. Dinner is also served at 8pm - too late for children, but the owner did allow us to finish our meal in our room.
Also for the price I expect a high level of service. We were made to feel like unwanted guests. On arrival it was here are the keys and bye, by chance we bumped into one of the owners and cleared up the apartment issue to change - in other words there was no service to ask how we are or whether we needed anything. On check out there was not even a goodbye.
Between the dogs and service - we ended up staying outside of the farm and only coming back to sleep - which meant we enjoyed our holiday as Tuscany is great. But we booked for a relaxing time with the kids in a countryside getaway, and due to the service we cut our stay short and went to our first point of call in Florence where the service could not have been more different.
There are so many places to stay in Tuscany that next time we will try another one or just stay in Florence where we got the service we expect and pay for.

The location is terrible, they can't cook and nobody working there is nice at all. This hopefully scares people who don't bather to read further.
The place is fantastic and if I can do something to keep it all to my self... I just did. What a great location and if you want some peace an quiet this is close to the best you can get. Simple, very good quality, pure and honest Italian family atmosphere. Good functional apartment, fantastic views and even better cooking by Laura! For the people alone I want to go back. Simply to enjoy life at its best the Italian way.
Staying in the country side and with an easy drive to Florence a top spot to stay.

We stayed here as part of a tour through Nada's Italy. Our room was very clean, the bed very comfortable, and the food was fabulous! The managers, Graziano and Giada, were very helpful and spoke English. The views from the terrace, especially at sunset, were great. One evening we were treated to delicious pizza cooked on the terrace in a wood oven and on two other nights we ate in the dining room (also excellent). Continental breakfast was exceptional! Everything was so fresh! Homemade preserves and pastries as well as cheese, meats, fruit, cereal. Excellent cappacino, too! My only complaint was the poor lighting in bathroom.

We (two couples with dogs) spent a long weekend at Podere Castellare in March 2011 and had a wonderful visit. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who will be staying in Tuscany.
Pros:
- The buildings are ancient, but the rooms inside are modern and clean. Bathrooms are large and have good hot water. Good heat for the winter, and there appeared to be AC for the summer.
- Both our rooms had nice balconies or private porch areas.
- Pet friendly. We had three dogs total, and the grounds are perfect for long walks. There are several country lanes and fields nearby for dogs to run off-leash with no worries of vehicles or bothering other people.
- Friendly service from the family who owns the property.
- Great food. We had breakfast each day, which included cold cuts, pastries, coffee/ cappuccino, etc. We also had dinner one evening, which was wonderful and very reasonably priced.
- Excellent location. We visited Tuscany specifically to tour the Frescobaldi Nippozano estate, and the winery was a 10-minute drive from the agriturismo.
- Surprisingly good fitness center. This is the only agriturismo we have ever visited that had a fitness center, and the facility at Podere Castellare was downright luxurious. There are several cardio machines, a modern hot tub, a steam room, a sauna, showers, and changing areas. All are indoors and appear to be brand-new.
No cons, but note that if you will need a car to get to this agriturismo.

This was such a lovely place, and the dinner that the host creates is well worth staying in to enjoy. It was a prepared menu announced the night before and is local fare. The host even went out of his way to accomodate the vegetarian diner preparing a separate dish for her alone. The location is wonderful for driving around the small towns and vineyards. I highly recommend going to Rufina and finding a wine/grocery store there. There were wines dating back to the 40's. The only drawback to our stay, though obviously no fault of the hotel, was the weather hence our desire to come back. We had what appeared to be the coldest, wettest spring in Tuscan history although it made for remarkable greens in the countryside. We want to go and enjoy some hot sunshine so we can take a dip in the pool on site.

We stayed for 3 nights in August 2008, and it was our third time at an Italian Agriturismo. We stayed at two other countryside locations in 2006, Podere Castellare was DEFINITELY way above the other two.
We found it using agriturismo.it, contacted them via the site and finally settled the reservation via email.
The hotel is location about 30-40 minutes away from Florence. The location is superb, on a hill where you can see the Tuscany countryside. They have a nice pool, a fitness center with hot tub, a restaurant. We only had breakfast there, and can say it was great. Also swimming and the hot tub.
We had totally personalized attention by the owners (Giada and her husband), withouth being overwhelming.
The building is an older farmhouse, and the hotel rooms are furnished in minimalist style. Each one is different. We ended up staying at two different rooms --see below to see why--. One of them Papavero, was small for us (3), but had a unique bathroom shower with a window with a wonderful tuscany view !. The other suite was more than enough for us, with living area, kitchen and two full bedrooms and bathrooms.
In other words : you have all the services you can expect from a traditional 5 star hotel, with the beauty of the country
The day we arrived they recommend us to go to a restaurant in a nearby town, because we hadn't booked dinners with them. The restaurant was an excellent recommendation, Il Picchio.
We stay almost one full day there just enjoying the facilities, and the rest of the time we toured around Tuscany. It is maybe a bit north for central tuscany attractions, but we didn't mind the driving, given that our experience was so great here.
The only unfortunate event of our whole stay : on booking via email, there was a mistake in the month on the final confirmation I got back from Giada... And I didn't notice ! So the day we were driving from Rome, I called them, and our reservation wasn't there. THat's when I put close attention to my printed email, and yes, we had the booking for the previous month July. The room we had booked was taken, so we had to stay for one night in the smaller room, but then we were moved to the larger suite. This was very easily fixed, which made us of course very happy. And you can tell they care very much about their guests..
So my only recommendation there : check your confirmation carefully !

Stayed at this great agriturismo at the start of october, which means the pool was closed (would be lovely in the summer) but we still had the jacuzzi and steam room to use which were both fantastic - highly recommend enjoying a glass of something in the jacuzzi whilst watching the sunset over the tuscan hills. Rooms were a little cold, although we had extra blankets. Food was wonderful, as was the wine - we would recommend the Frescobaldi Rufina. Views stunning, the owner/manager could not have been more accomodating. Would definitely recommend excellent value.
