This hotel is almost perfect. There's a lovely, windy road that takes you to the top of the hill and a parking area that serves the hotel and the many hikers. We were well taken care of on arrival despite the fact that no one speaks passable English. We were shown available rooms and chose a suite in the tower....

We stayed for 2 nights in mid September. The castle is not a perfect hotel building, but that is the major part of its charm and every reasonable effort has been made to offer modern facilities alongside all the charming old features and fittings, I wouldn't want it to change, this was the chance to live in a romantic castle...

It was a surprise stay, I love it...it was pretty expensive but it was worth it. The restaurants foods are amazing, the location is absolutely impressive. We stayed at one of the castles "guards tower" where they turned into a beautiful private cottage with a beautiful garden where you can view the beautiful green valley. The castle is pretty modernized...

O.k. I'll admit right off that we haven't stayed here yet, but we are planning to. We've checked out several of the rooms and eaten in the restaurant, and it appears to be a great place. I agree with the recent reviews onTA which are all positive. The hotel is very interesting, the staff are all helpful and happy to...

We loved our stay at the Schloss Kapfenstein. The views to the surrounding countryside are storybook. The castle has been beautifully modernized. For example, the bath fixtures and lighting are top-notch. Our room and sitting area were comfortable and well-designed. There were perfect views from all 3 windows - including the one in the bathroom. I was a little worried...

The Schloss Kapfenstein is a wonderful combination of hotel and restaurant. The restaurant overlooks the valley below and is peaceful and serene. We had the weekday "culinary package" so for one night we had a five course menu with wine pairings and the second night merely a four-course menu, and we ordered our own bottle of the hotel's own excellent...

After we checked in, we headed out to the terrace part of the restaurant for a superb dinner at twilight overlooking the Austrian villages below. We had first visited back in 1996, and had to show our friends this place during an Eastern Europe trip in 2009. I'd go back again at every opportunity. Frau Winkler closely supervises everything and...

Hotel Scloss Kapfenstein is a family owned castle, now a luxury hotel with a gourmet restaurant, on the top of a hill with three hundred and sixty degree views over its own vineyards and then exquisite countryside to distant hills and mountains. Within a few kilometres you can get to Hungary and Slovenia too. Our room was large in what...

The castle of Kapfenstein is really awesome! Built on an extinct volcanic cone the fortified castle from the 11th Century offers you a beautiful view over the Eaststyrian wine-country with its hills, .. The rooms are very nicely and individually furnished and decorated. The food is just excellent! You can sit in the garden and have a wonderful lunch or...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
It was back in 1065 that a mountain fortress was constructed here to fend off the armies of Asiatic horsemen. However, at least since the time when this fortress named after the Caphensteiner family came into the possession of the ancient Styrian patrician Winkler-Hermaden family, have things become increasingly peaceful in the environs of this romantic knight’s castle.15 stylishly appointed guest rooms, including a Prince’s, Castle Court and Poet’s room, invite both young honeymooners, as well as all who appreciate the finer things. ... more   less
