The setting is amazing, you can walk for kilometres along the shore on either side of the resort, spectacular views. One of the best reefs I’ve snorkelled, with caveat it can be wavy, so no guarantees you can get out. Staff amazing all around. Food was quite good, lots of variety. Rooms were great, slightly dated but it makes zero difference to us, clean and cozy. Resort itself is perfectly spaced out, chairs everywhere, no leaving a towel like other resorts. We went to Havana for a day with a driver and guide, was fascinating. My only complaint, the grumpy, classless Brits. Man what a bunch of whiners, honestly listening to their complaints, they just came off as entitled and off putting. You can read it here too, we found them disrespectful, people work hard, show some class. As for tips, come on, you’ll spend a few grand to go on vacation, but you can’t throw a few bucks around to people who can really use it? We brought some feminine hygiene products and other stuff we heard was needed, recommend people do the same, it was greatly appreciated, if discreetly. We’re going back this December, can’t wait!

Just got back from a fantastic stay at Memories the place sits in a fantastic location. Mountain view from pool and the sea a stone throw away. The food was great always something for everyone. But for me it was the people all happy to help and always with a smile. The entertainment staff were quite simply brilliant Big shout out to Yendri,Brian,Lisa, and Nelson, they made our holiday never stopped laughing for 2 weeks. Can not wait to return to see everyone met some great friends for life.

Great setting, all staff were excellent, that is the 2 good points. Food mediocre, lots of flies on it, I myself had a bad stomach the second week, but after mentioning it to some other guests they too said they had been ill and said quite a few other guests have been ill, one violently vomiting by the swimming pool. Another guest who lives in the Caribbean also became ill with stomach upset and she said in 50yrs of travelling this is the first time she has had these problems. In my opinion I think the water was the problem, they give you a bottle of water in the room and tell you not to buy any just take it to one of the bars and they will exchange it. On a couple of occasions the replacement water had a strange taste to it so it immediately went down the sink. Also I think the ice is made from untreated water. We certainly won’t be visiting again, the rep on the transfer bus told us that this resort is really 5 star place due to location and staff, he was correct, but everything else let it down, my opinion is a poor 3 star, and that’s being generous.

Most important advice - do your research before you go and be clear about what you're expecting. Cuba is struggling and doing the best that it can for its visitors - often meaning its people go without. You won't get 5* facilities in the way you do in many other places, but you will get 5* efforts and 5 stars more than the locals get - but your presence is supporting them. Our experience. We stayed for 3 weeks at the end of July/start of August and had no rain at all for the entire time. It was hot, sunny and just what we wanted. Beach and sea were great and never had any problem finding a bed or a problem with being disturbed. Everything was in very easy reach - bars, restaurants, pool etc. That's a relief because it was hot and humid all of the time. Our room was excellent when compared to many others. Block 11, top floor, sea view (actually right on the beach) and recently refurbished. It's nothing fancy but for Cuba - more than good enough. Only issue with the room - air conditioning was on permanently and had no controls. That's great in the afternoon and when getting back in the evening - but a bit bracing first thing in the morning and very noisy. Housekeeping was wonderful throughout. We do tip (US Dollars left on the pillow) every day. It's not expected, but very much appreciated by staff and means you're well looked after for next to nothing. Food - interesting, but we never went hungry. Strange to be served at a buffet but if you get to know the servers and smile a lot they look out for you. Don't treat them like part of the furniture. I had papaya juice most mornings. 1 day it wasn't there - lots of apologies but I understand the limitations so not a problem. As I'm waiting for an omelette (wonderful I have to say!) the server tapped me on the arm to excitedly present me with a glass of papaya - just arrived. Limited supplies - no mint, no tomatoes, no butter for 2 weeks etc. but it's not their fault (hotels get first dibs over the locals!). It does add to the excitement when yoghurts etc. suddenly appear. However, freshly cooked chicken, pork, beef, fish, seafood - all done to order and as much as you want. Pizza was as wonderful as everyone says, but never needed it due to lack of choice. 3 courses (every lunch and dinner) easily filled. Pasta station freshly cooked was great too. Restaurants. Used the beach bar at lunchtime once. Okay for a quick snack but only did it once. Main restaurant was a very short walk, and 3 courses with wine broke up the day. The beach bar transformed (not very much) in the evening to the Cuban restaurant. Absolutely gorgeous views at sunset if you time it right but we only ate there once. Was 'okay'. Preferred to eat elsewhere and walk along the beach at sunset. Gourmet - very nice but don't expect an extensive menu. We had lobster (incredibly cheap) for our anniversary and it was lovely. Italian - lovely atmosphere and lovely food. Staff were great - our favourite. Pool - needs more shade. We only went there after the beach each day at around 5:00 and it was hard to get shelter if needed. Water was like a very warm bath. Never had a problem getting a bed, but out of the sun was almost impossible. Evening bar. We only ever went to the lobby bar and sat outside. They do need more seats but it wasn't a huge problem. I found that if you went to the bar for your first drink and then tipped when your glasses were topped up at the table you were always looked after. Usually had wine, wife had sparkling (a quick glance at the fridge at the bar will let you know if it's a fresh bottle and not lost its fizz! Tipping - we took US dollars and lowest denomination possible. I then asked staff serving us if they could change a $10 bill for $1 bills and let them keep one - hardly a major expense, they earned a bit more and they always found what you needed. Trips - only did one. I managed to get the number of Giselle (go to the Memories Jibacoa Facebook page and search for Giselle - you'll soon find a photo of her and Lenny and instructions for finding her) and had a full day to Havana with her (English and knowledge is fantastic!) and her driver Lenny in a classic Impala. Full tour with choices of what we wanted to see, cocktails in a central bar, lunch and cocktails on the way back (all extra) but just $100 for the journey and their service for 2 of us - bargain. Did this on my birthday and it was wonderful - 100% recommended! All in all a wonderful holiday at a very reasonable price.

I'll start with the good... The location is stunning, nestled on the beach surrounded by jungle-covered hills. I believe that there is a route up to a great vantage point, but we didn't get round to making the trek. The beach is nice enough, always plenty of loungers and shade available - we were Diamond Club and the waitress service was both friendly and regular. A tractor runs up and down a few times at around 7am to clear away any small amounts of seaweed that may have washed up. Great snorkeling right off the beach if the weather is kind for a few days - we had a storm pass through one day which stirred the sand up for a few days, but it was still good visibility a little further out. The gardeners always looked busy, and the grounds etc were tidy enough. The ornamental fountains no longer work, but generally the place looks ok. A couple of the gardeners would appear on the beach most days with fresh coconuts if you ever fancy one. Wifi coverage was generally good - The lobby area was best, but we had good wifi in our room and even on the beach it was fine. The 'not so good' section is a bit longer... The hotel itself is tired. It's not decrepit, but it's showing it's age. Despite our Diamond Club status, we didn't get a refurbished room - but the room we had (seaview, block 12, top floor) was ok. It was clean enough. Yes, the bathroom had seen better days (rusty repainted bath, old school shower curtain, few broken tiles and a bit of missing grout here and there) but not to the point of it being terrible. Just tired. There was a coffee machine in the room. We never managed to find any coffee pods to go in it though - not the end of the world as there was always the option of a quick stroll to the lobby bar. The mini fridge was filled every day - water, fanta, couple of cans of beer. The TV worked. The aircon was noisy but effective. Towels and bedding were changed whenever you wanted (towels on the floor = new towels, 'change the bedding' sign left on the bed = new bedding). The balcony was ok - no privacy as the rails between balconies are open, but the view of the beach / sea was lovely. The safe in the room worked fine (once you manage to find how the set the code - tip for the hotel: put a simple instruction sticker on the safe and it'll save every new guest having to return to reception to ask!). We didn't spot any bugs or nasties in our room. There were a few tiny ants pottering about in the doorway, but we didn't bother them and they didn't bother us. The really bad... The food. The flies. We are really not picky. We're easily pleased. We'll generally eat anything, but we struggled here. I was particularly grateful to the fella that sorted me out with a couple of fried eggs every breakfast. Coupled with some four times through the toaster bread and maybe a sausage and deep fried ham in breadcrumbs, it set me up for the day ok. The freshly made pizza in the buffet became a staple of an evening. People would lurk around, plate in hand, pretending to be deciding what to have from the buffet. The oven would open, the pizza comes out and whoosh - it's gone in seconds. Delicious. Everything else, not so much. We tried the a-la-carte restaurants - we didn't book any of them twice. The 'Gourmet' was the best of them; the steak was ok. We ate each lunchtime at the beach bar - mainly because we were hungry. The service was generally good. I get that 'it's cuba' but food shortages etc can't excuse not keeping food that's meant to be hot, hot. Luke warm food & flies everywhere. The fly situation isn't helped by the numerous guests who blatantly ignore the signs saying to not feed the numerous stray cats and dogs. Don't get me wrong, the cats and dogs were no trouble - in fact they were better behaved than many pets I've met - but guests chucking chunks of chicken and fish on the floor for them to eat whilst other diners are tucking into their barely warm sandwich and rice does not make for a particularly pleasant experience. For anyone worried about the cats and dogs, don't be. Ignore them for five seconds and they quickly move on to the next crazy cat/dog lady who I can guarantee will be queuing up to chuck their lunch at them! Did I mention the flies? Embrace them. They will become your close and relentless companion for the duration. My wife had a severely bad stomach for a few days. Many other guests we spoke to had the same. I was fine. On a more positive note... The bars. We like a drink. We're not fussy. We found drinks. The draft beer was nice - until it ran out the day before we left. We'd have probably had a mojito - but there was no mint for the duration of our stay. The premium gin was ok - and most times we got it with tonic. The Absolute Vodka never ran out, neither did the Club Rum. We generally like a few glasses of white wine of a lunchtime when on holiday, that wasn't to be here, but hey 'it's cuba' so we make do. The sports bar was - frankly - a bit rubbish. The lobby bar was fine. I think it was self-service. Don't get me wrong, there were waiters knocking around of an evening, but you'll do well to get them to give you table service. It was much easier to just go to the bar. The bar staff were friendly enough. We only went to the pool bar once - in search of a cold beer when the draft beer had run out - the lady there was great, and she'd put the cans in the sink with ice, so she gets my vote! We had a couple of fantastic nights in the piano bar (upstairs above reception) - the guitarist singer was brilliant fun. His rendition of Zombie by the cranberries will stay with us for a long time! Conscious that I'm going on a bit so I'll sum up... We won't be going back. This was our seventh trip to Cuba so we didn't go expecting gourmet dining, but the shortages and difficulties that Cuba is facing are really impacting them badly. This hotel is far from terrible, but it's far from excellent also. The people are generally ok. You'll not starve, you'll not be thirsty. You'll probably love the beach and the sea. You never know, you might even be moved enough to join this website and write your one and only review and give it five stars... p.s. Don't fall for the exchange currency scam on the transfer to the hotel from the airport. However good a deal you think you're getting from the guide/driver, you'll be buying local currency which is effectively worthless. Take dollars - they'll see you through, whatever you need and wherever you go.

A great time in this magnificent hotel where you feel life family. Since you arrive you feel like you are treated like royalty. Amazing service everywhere and I'm the best staff in the world. The food was great and the service at the buffet restaurant was 5 stars. Entertainment was pretty good during the day and some of the chose at night were so good too. I highly recommend this place and I would encourage my fellow partners to come when they can.

My wife and I just returned from another fabulous week at Memories Jibacoa! Before writing my review, I read some recent reviews, some suggesting that their negative review was more accurate than those of us who write a positive review. REALLY!! I have nothing to gain from writing these reviews. My incentive to write a review is to provide my honest opinion of our experience. We have returned to Memories Jibacoa several times over the last few years indicating how impressed we are with the location, staff, entertainment, accommodation and value. The staff are so friendly and will do all they can to make your vacation the best it can be. Our room was very comfortable and cleaned daily around our schedule which was appreciated. There are very talented musicians playing throughout the resort at various times daily. The excellent evening entertainment has a variety of programs that reflect the Cuban culture. It is true that Cuba has food and drink shortages at times. We were missing hamburgers and potatoes this trip. Since there was plenty of rice, pasta, eggs, cheese, bread and a variety of meat, fruit and vegetables at each meal, we didn't miss hamburgers and potatoes. There was always plenty of choices when it came to meals. Having said that, if you come to Cuba expecting five star food, you will be disappointed. Travelling to Cuba is far less expensive than travelling to many of the other islands/countries. We find the value to be incredible as do many other reviewers and we always have so much fun. This resort has so much to offer if you have realistic expectations. This is my honest opinion.

Beautiful location, nestled with a mountain view on one side and ocean on the other. The staff are very hard working and outgoing despite the hardships and turbulent times they are experiencing in their country. Most everyday they have blackouts (in their homes/not at the resort), food and medicine shortages and daily struggles, yet they show up to serve with a smile! It is incredible! The Entertainment staff are just remarkable-high energy and fun. The bar service is excellent. I just loved the service in the gourmet restaurant from Miguel. He was our server two times and he made our dining experience second to none. We ate our breakfast each day outside at the buffet on the terrace and Roger and his team provided exceptional service, we can't thank them enough!!!! The beach bar also was terrific with a fantastic view and you can also enjoy lunch there. The beach is beautiful and the reef is close by right off the shore for snorkelling and scuba diving. The piano bar is always a nice place to enjoy a quiet drink and (no longer quiet) then some laughs when the playing and singing begins. Reception was always helpful and the staff very pleasant. Management is always there in the event of an emergency to help the tourists anyway they can. This place is a hidden jem and is why you will find most of the tourists are repeat visitors. Its a quiet location but there is much fum to be had. If you want some more action, you can take a 50 minute taxi ride to Havana. We really enjoy the variety of musicians that play in various locations throughout the resort. We do not go to the night shows as when you have travelled extensively, they no longer appeal to us, but those who watch really seem to enjoy them. We never go to another country expecting the food to be the same as our own country or better. We go to a new country to experience the culture and beautiful people. Therefore we are never disappointed with the food and this goes especially in Cuba. This country is virtually in ruins with shortages we cannot begin to understand, yet everyday there was bread, eggs, meat, fish, chicken, pork, fruit, vegetables, cheese, fresh juice and so on. Nothing to complain about and always something to eat. Please go to this country with an open mind. If you require the best of the best 5 star everything you need to go elsewhere and pay a lot more. Chances are you are getting a heck of a deal travelling to Cuba compared to other countries. Please re-set your values and attitude if you plan to go to Cuba and you will have the most amazing time!! We can't wait to go back to Memories Jibacoa, Cuba!!!!!
