We stayed at Carrnel's B and B on the last night of our 10 day self-drive holiday around the Republic of Ireland and found it to be of average standard.. We had booked it based on the excellent 5 star reviews we had read on this website. We were disappointed with what we got for our money compared with previous places we had stayed in Ireland. Perhaps the Glendalough area commands higher prices than other areas?
We stayed for a night with the aim to hike Glendalough the next morning. Only 15 mins drive to Wicklow National Park. Carmels was an excellent host. Our room was quaint and had 2 beds - a double and a single. It was clean and everything worked. The toilet and bath was narrow but not a big issue. Parking available on the property. Wifi was weak in the room. Our Irish breakfast was wonderfully prepared. Very delicious. Cereal is also available. We had a great stay.
Carmel's was our first stop after landing in Dublin and driving to the Wicklow area. We were only in the area for one night, but Carmel made it a lovely start to our Ireland trip. She warmly welcomed us and provided us with a spacious twin room we asked for. The room even had two toilets, both with sinks (though only one with a shower). It made getting ready in the morning go more quickly. The room was warm, inviting, and clean. The breakfast was probably the best we had the whole trip, with large portions and excellent presentation... and great taste too! We were warned that the WiFi really only worked well in or near the living room area and this proved to be correct (as our room was one of the furthest from the living room). So if WiFi access in your room is important to you, request a room close to the living room. We discovered that Carmel has been running this B&B since 1981 and her experience definitely shows. She made us feel at home and we can definitely recommend staying here to other travelers. If we find ourselves in the Wicklow area again, we will be staying at Carmel's again.…
My husband and I stayed at Carmel's B&B and thoroughly enjoyed it. Wicklow (where we went for dinner), Avoca (where we visited Avoca Mills and wanted to see the town also known as Ballykissangel), and the magnificent historic site, Glendalough, are all very close. Carmel is a most welcoming and warm host and breakfast was delicious. Our room was big and comfortable. I highly recommend Carmel's B&B.
Carmel is super nice and was very welcoming. The bed was comfortable, shower was great. Great safe parking. I had asked about gluten free (due to celiac) before booking and was advised no problem, however, not a lot of knowledge of gluten free once there. Was gratefully provided scrambled eggs and toast (after I spoke about what was safe and how to prepare), but it took away from my experience. The menu clearly indicates allergens, but the knowledge is just not there. Recommend if you do not have allergies.
