From the moment we arrived, greeted outside by hotel staff, to the shuttle bus ride back to Kawaguchi-ko station, we felt welcomed and very much at home at the Mizno. Talking to the proprietors, I discovered that although the hotel has been established for around 60 years, it was renovated around 5-6 years ago. It is obvious that a lot of thought went into the renovation; the hotel has a wide variety of artistic and interesting 'spaces', from the book-lined twin reading nooks on the first floor through the comfortable and numerous sofas - complete with complementary welcome drink - in the lobby through to the dedicated outdoor Mt Fuji-viewing terrace and rooftop outdoor bar, also with front-row sets to the majestic mountain and a very chill, laid-back vibe (there are even very soft and comfy individual 'hammock' style lounge chairs in a separate, quiet corner where small groups can relax and chat over drinks in relative privacy). Art pieces - paintings, prints, antique furniture - can be found on every floor throughout the hotel, making even the walk to the lift/up and down stairs interesting. With three members in our party, we chose a Japanese-style room which proved both spacious and comfy, complete with a front-on view of Mt Fuji (when it wasn't hiding behind clouds), a ceramic vase in the tokonoma, high-tech toilet in the bathroom, heavenly-smelling Maison Margiela ammenities and Ferrero Rocher pillow chocolates every night. The room also had its own pod coffee machine as well as tea-making facilities and a cotton yukata with obi and towel - carried in a charming wicker basket - was provided for each guest to use to go to the hotel onsen. Our room tariff included breakfast, of which two types - Japanese and Western - are available. We tried a different type each morning (the Western breakfast offers two different egg dish options) and they were all delicious as well as generous in terms of volume. If the weather is good, ask to be seated on the outside terrace which has great views over the lake. The hotel has bicycles for guests to use (for free!) at any time of the day or night, which we took advantage of to explore the west lake region (highly recommended: Yagizaki park and the Itchiku Kubota Art Museum); there is also a free shuttle bus that runs every half-hour in the morning, which was very handy for connecting with tours to other parts of Fuji Five-lakes area. At the Mizno, there are separate men's and women's onsens, as well as a private rooftop onsen (extra charge) but as the free onsens had both indoor baths and a rotenburo (outdoor bath), we didn't feel the need to pay extra for the rooftop bath. Hotel staff - whether at the front desk, restaurant, bar or driving - were friendly and responsive to our questions and requests. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough; we are already planning our next visit, hopefully during the winter when Mt Fuji is most clearly - and regularly - visible.

My biggest regret was not booking more than 1 night. We was lucky enjough to arrive when the clouds were clearing and we ere treated to a 2 hour uninterrupted and sunny view of Mount Fuji. The view from our balcony was delightful and the onsen was quiet, clean and very relaxing. The food was superb throughout, the traditional Japanese dinner was one of the best meals we enjoyed and the westernised breakfast was delightful (and great for those that find some of the Japanese breakfast options a little challenging so early in the morning). We loved the lounge area, the fun and colourful object d'art, paintings and photographs displayed with the vast array of art and design books on offer along with the complimentary coffee. This place definately warrants a 2 night stay, not just for the hotel, but to sample the many things this area has available in general. Only complaint was the roof top bar service was a little on the cool (chilly) side, however the rest of the staff were warm and welcoming and professional. Would love to come back here! Don't hesitate booking....there are good reasons for the excellent reviews - this place is an absolute joy to stay in!

We stayed 2 nights, and were so fortunate to have a clear day, for the most sublime views of Mt Fuji over the lake, take your photos early morning just magical. Loved the hotel, it felt very cosy, it’s like an old English hotel, with an eclectic art collection, comfortable leather lounges, great public rooms with open fires and lounges so you can sit and look at the view. The onsen is great, with the outdoor baths overlooking the Lake and Fuji. Convenient shuttle from station, you can arrange transfer by seeing staff in tourist office who will contact hotel, it only take a five minute drive.

Felt looked after from the time we pulled up into the car park to when we checked out. Waking up to a clear view of Mt Fuji was one of my highlights. The view of Mt Fuji and lake Kawaguchiko was phenomenal. Also had the best time at the bar with Sammy the bar manager! He’s a really sweet and wholesome person :) He made us a matcha cocktail that was off the menu called the ‘Sweet Sam Matcha’ (would recommend) 12/10 experience

We spent one night hear to get away form the Tokyo hustle and bustle. The hotel is located uphill a few hundred meters from the main road. The place has a great atmosphere and staff goes out of their way. We had a balcony room, which offers a great view and has all you may need. Private onsen on the rooftop is an absolute plus. Would certainly go back here if we need to get away from busy Tokyo!

After spending a busy week in Tokyo and Kyoto, we spent a few restful days at the Mizno Hotel. We were greeted in the parking lot and brought into the beautiful lobby. Beautiful paintings in the comfortable lobby awaited us. There is a gathering area with books and morning coffee. I love an older grand hotel and this checked many boxes. Our room was as advertised with an amazing view of Kawaguchiko and Mt. Fuji. Although Mt Fuji was hidden until the morning of our departure. Be sure to make reservations for the traditional Japanese dinner, kaiseki ,in their dining room. A multi course event that was not only pleasing to the eye but also the pallet. The French course was also delicious. We will return to this area again someday and we will stay again at the Mizno.

We stayed for just 3 nights but it was the best time we had during our two weeks vacation in Japan. Prior to our visit, the hotel had already contacted us to discuss about our meals and especially so to find out if my 11 year old had any food allergies and required any special meals. The shuttle bus arrived promptly to pick us up from the train station. Checking in was a breeze and they even served us tea even though there wasn't a need to wait to get our room keys. The room was extremely clean and comfortable. We tried both the Japanese and Western rooms. No complaints, only praises for the thoughtfulness and thorough cleanliness. The view from the room was no doubt one of the best around Kawaguchiko. The hotel also made sure we were well fed with the sumptuous meals they served us for both breakfast and dinner. Food was prepared with utmost attention to detail. Yet they were still warm to eat and simply delicious. The restaurant staff took care of us well and made sure we took our time to enjoy the food before serving the next dish. Words cannot describe how grateful I am to all the staff for making our stay so wonderful. Thank you so much!

We stayed at Mizno Hotel in mid Nov during the height of the fall foliage season. It's not a large property, both the building, the rooms, and the staff are very warm and welcoming. I think all the rooms face the lake and hence Mt Fuji, so from your window on a clear day you see the huge mountain looming behind the lake. They also have onsen on the second floor which also faces Mt Fuji. On our first night I was jet lagged and decided to go to the onsen at 5AM. It was completely empty, and I can see the silhouette of Mt Fuji from the outdoor onsen. What a welcoming sight to Japan. The staff is very friendly, the room, bathroom, lobby, etc are all immaculate.

Very welcoming staff who spoke very good English. They were very helpful in helping to sort out our travel arrangements and in coping with additional requests for breakfast in bed when one of our group had a cold. The hotel is beautiful with excellent views of Mount Fuji. The rooms are comfortable and extremely clean. We sampled both English and Japanese breakfasts which were both wonderful. dinner was sensational. A wonderful place to relax in. Thank you for the many lifts from kamaguchiko to the hotel.
