We stayed here at the end of our trip in April 2014. Uta and her family were so warm and hospitable and combined with the rustic charm of our accommodation made it such a relaxing place to stay. The cottages are scattered around the old plantation ( a torch came in very handy !) which makes them very private .We...

Balenbouche offers travellers a unique and dream-like experience. We spent 5 nights in the Banyan cottage, which has 3 double bedrooms and a great patio. The place boasts with character. The dark wood panels, combined with the shade of the jungle make the cottage a bit dark, but very enjoyable on a hot day. The cottage has been decorated with...

We stayed at Balenbouche in August 2013; relatives were staying at an all-inclusive in Vieux Fort and we wanted to have an alternative place for the whole family to get together for parts of a short vacation (all-inclusives do not allow visitors; the only way for extended family to be together is if you are all staying there). Balenbouche was...

Just a remarkable place where the owner of the Estate, here family and staff have the power to make you feel not like a tourist but a traveler. The understated old world elegance, the gracious hospitality, the delicious food, the beautiful grounds, the absolute calm and tranquility make it all for an unforgettable experience. Could not have hope for more...

The property is attractive and we enjoyed our stay in the Banyan Cottage but we felt that the cottage overall could use just a little TLC. The Banyan Cottage is huge and I loved the large open layout. I love being in nature so I very much enjoyed walking from room to room while still being outdoors. The décor is...

We appreciate the feedback from this review and agree that the Banyan cottage needed some care and small repairs. Like the previous guests who left a review, this couple stayed with us just after a severe storm which left many without power and water, caused landslides and washed away bridges and houses. While we had less damage, there was a...

Charming place in an impressive environment of course: forest, beaches, always very very natural... If you are a fan of camping/ outdoor stay it might be nice. But if you look for a cosy, comfortable room (with closed walls) in a pleasant place you should not stay there, it can get even windy in your bed! It's a kind of...

We regret that this couple did not feel entirely satisfied and comfortable at Balenbouche. They stayed with us just after the island experienced heavy flooding and stronger winds than usual, which may have influenced their experience somewhat. We also believe they were expecting something other than what we offer. Anyone who reads our website and reviews will realize that Balenbouche...

We stayed at Balenbouche for a week earlier this year. My two daughters loved the freedom of being able to roam around the grounds with Ute's many dogs; we all loved the walk through the fields to the secluded beach, and the great surf. Almond cottage was comfortable and as cooling. Ute was kind and helpful. We would all love...

We stayed with the Lawaetz family at Balenbouche Estate for a week in mid July 2013. We had the most wonderful time here, every day waking to the jungle chorus at first light, before walking down through an adjoining field of palms to a small bay for a sea swim at sunrise. Uta, Verena and Anatanija made us feel like...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Balenbouche Estate is a Historic Plantation Guesthouse offering several tropical vacation cottages. The 80 acre property includes an expansive park with colonial plantation house, 18th century sugar mill, yoga barn, fruit orchards, lily ponds, nature trails and two secluded beaches just a 5 minute walk away. Balenbouche is not a resort and remains a working organic farm, heritage site, and family residence with a focus on wellness, sustainability and conservation. Our eco-chic accommodations are created from historic structures and sleep between 2 and 6 people, some include kitchens. We prepare breakfast daily, and dinner 2 - 3 times a week by reservation. There is a restaurant within walking distance. Several other St Lucia restaurants as well as a supermarket are a short drive away. We are located 20 minutes from the International airport and 30 minutes from the town of Soufriere, near many of the islands best attractions. Balenbouche is a magical place, a world in itself, popular with artists, photographers, green travelers, wedding couples, honeymooners and families. Our family has owned and managed the estate for three generations. Gradually, the property was transformed into a well known St Lucia attraction, guesthouse and retreat venue. Many of our guests feel very much at home at Balenbouche Estate, and keep returning! ... more   less
