This was my first stay at this former Holiday Inn property and it would certainly not be my first choice if returning to the area again. Whilst the rooms have been smartened up in terms of decor, they still suffer from poor air con / ventilation and dreadfully dark and dreary corridors. Breakfast was disappointing with a number of menu items unavailable and the team on duty were clearly struggling to cope with clearing tables and replenishing the buffet. In general terms, I’d describe the staff as disinterested and unhelpful. I had a number of issues with my booking and found the level of telephone assistance offered by the hotel in resolving these to be woefully inadequate and at times borderline rude and disrespectful. The service at check in was similarly brusque and the breakfast staff just couldn’t be bothered to help. When I requested a table in the upper level seating area to be away from other guests, the response of the breakfast supervisor was “If you can find a clean table then help yourself”. Crowne Plaza is meant to offer an elevated experience compared with the hotel’s former branding. Personally, I’ve enjoyed better service at IHGs budget chains than I did on. Y stay this property.…
From the moment you pull into the car park everything is so pleasurable, lift to reception, happy greeting when you get there, very helpful staff, lovely room, pool was amazing, sauna and steam room were just what we needed, bar meal in the evening was extremely tasty, gym the next day, then shopping in reading and back to the pool, room service had been and made bed, clean towels and topped up coffee and tea, amazing night sleep in ultra comfy bed, would recommend this hotel to anyone
Got a voucher on red letter days for overnight stay, spa treatment, access to spa facilities, 2 course dinner and a breakfast in the morning. Friendly staff, comfy beds and nice food. Would stay again
We really enjoyed our stay! We booked using a voucher from virgin experiences and it was such good value for money. The voucher included 2 nights (with late check out, dinner on one of the nights, breakfast both mornings and a 55min massage. The hotel was modern and so clean everywhere!!! There is not much around or walking distance but is great if you have a car because nothing is too far away. We went to Windsor castle on one of our days, only 25 mins away. The room was fabulous! So clean, had everything we needed including a fridge and a massive tv! Very modern and there was miniatures in the bath room. Only annoying thing is there is no where to hang wet towels or wet swimming costumes! The breakfast was wonderful, everything you could want, we discovered a breakfast menu which they do not openly advertise! This has pancakes, waffles and French toast etc. the staff were brilliant and constantly topping up items and clearing g peoples plates. The bar was interesting….no cocktails between 7-9! We got there at 6:50 but the bar man refused us a pre dinner cocktail and was really rude to his bar staff! So we just went straight to dinner instead. The dinner was great! The head waiter was charming, helpful, and apologised for the way the barman treated us. He helped explain the menu options and made recommendations we also observed him supporting and teaching new/ less experienced staff. He was awesome! I didn’t catch his name but he had long brown hair tied up off his face- he’s a credit to the hotel. The spa was lovely, small, not many loungers but it was good for a mastic spa. The massages were great! Very relaxing. Our biggest compliment goes to Karen/ Keren I. Reception! She always had a smile on her face she apologised to us about the bar and made amends with us, even though it was not her fault. She went above and beyond for us and nothing was too much trouble she always said hello as we wandered round the hotel. We love you Karen! X Thank you so much for a great stay! We can’t wait to return and we would definitely use the virgin experience voucher as it worked out such great value for money.…
Booked 3 months in advance but spa treatment bookings inconveniently changed 48 hours before arrival to split a full body massage Into 2 sessions with an hours break in between. When queried with Katy the Spa manager whilst she did rearrange bookings the customer service was somewhat lacking. Whilst on the topic of the spa my sister had a wonderful massage, mine however consisted of the masseuse swiping some massage oil on the relevant bits with one hand. I have massages regularly and this was hands down the worst one I have ever had. Also a lack of sun loungers around the pool for the number of spa attendees. Decent swimming pool and steam rooms. The check in was professional with a £50 deposit taken and advised I would receive it back the day after checking out (this was yesterday I have just called to ask if my refund was processed only to be told they were too busy today). I live in hope they find time in their busy schedule to return my money! Room was clean and faultless. The restaurant was clinical in its customer service whilst everyone was pleasant there is a general lack of warmth from any staff members across the board in this hotel. Both the 3 course dinner and breakfast were delicious. My sister and I booked this as a Spa Break through Virgin Experience so whilst I had read poor reviews I trusted Virgin would have ensured their packages were of the best quality. I was wrong.…
Just returned from a 2 day stay at yhe hotel, which is very clean, spacious and modern and you get free WiFi throughout your stay. The staff were polite and helpful. You are charged £100 on arrival, as a holding payment, for any extras you purchase during your stay. I purchased breakfast on arrival at the discounted price of £14.50 pp, in the restaurant it's apparently £18.50 pp. The buffet breakfast was OK but a bit expensive for a standard fry up, cereal, toast, fruit and/or tea and coffee. The room was on the small side but clean, with a modern bathroom, Freeview TV, mini fridge (with 2 bottles of water) iron/ironing board and tea/coffee making facilities. The bed is a queen size, too small for us (use to a super king) the pillows were small, half the size of normal ones (weird) and quite a hard mattress. We visited the hotel for a Spa weekend, the facilities were OK, indoor pool, well equipped gym, steam room (hot) and sauna (nice temperature) but no jacuzzi, which i was hoping for! There are not enough beds around the pool area for the amount of people using the space, with people having to sit on chairs until beds became available. We had a 25 minute couples massage, which was nice - wish it was for longer. Robes and towels are provided but not flip flops, you must wear your own. The downside for me was that the hotel is outside of Reading on an industrial estate called Winnersh Triangle, it takes about 15-20 minutes in a car to get to the city centre, which is a very lively and multicultural place. The hotel can call you a taxi into town at the cost of approximately £16, an Uber back is roughly £12. It's mostly motorway into Reading, no buses and definitely no walking. If you choose to stay at the hotel for the duration of your stay, then you'll be fine, but we wanted to venture out and visit the restaurants and bars at the Oracle (shopping centre) which became costly in taxis. There is a WH Smiths (only store) opposite the hotel but it wasn't open during our visit. I think the other buildings were offices, again none were open. Overall, the hotel and Spa were OK. The location was not great. …
We stayed as a family of four booked through legoland. Thought lovely, after a busy day with the children we can unwind and relax in the evening! Check in was fine, pleasant receptionist, very quick. Got to our room and well!!! We had a room with one double bed, remember we came as a family of four! Phoned reception and they sent housekeeping up to make the sofa bed! Also needed towels as this room was definitely not meant for a family, stepping on each other and not enough room to even remove your socks comfortably. Fast forward, daughter got into the bath and with in seconds the water had drained... broken drain. So disappointed as I feel we have just been given the tat. Honestly thought we'd have a lovely comfortable stay but boy was I wrong, not cheap either. O and forget the little treat for the children on arrival, abit of cardboard with three crayons and also no milk and cookies :(…
Spa day with the mum for bank holiday weekend, turned into hotel nightmare, what a disgusting hotel, 4 star god knows how if I could give 0 I bloody would. Staff especially the supervisor (Karen) =SH*T Food= SH*T come up cold, with BOILED veg (£12), 3 cold rolls thrown on a plate after waiting nearly an hour and half for. Mum having to drink from a broken glass after I accidental knocked it however no one cleared to glass from the floor, with kids running around the worst experience ever. The spa, is NOT a spa more like a kids pool. JUST DO NOT GO. WORST HOTEL/ SPA STAY EVER Good luck if you do go, you’ll need it
My daughter booked us a night away a few weeks ago. Unfortunately there were no spa treatments available, but we enjoyed the pool, although weren't expecting children to be there or to be jumping off the sides into the swimming section. We did enquire and apparently on Saturday afternoons families are invited to use the pool. This goes against what we considered should be a peaceful spa break and other guests commented the same. There is a gym next door to the pool which is well equipped. Check-in was at 3; we arrived at 3:30 and were asked to wait 10 minutes as our room wasn't ready. The room was lovely; we shared a king-sized bed that was very comfortable and had chocolate dipped strawberries brought to us, plus there were bottles of water and tea and coffee. If you've forgotten any toiletries, they will provide them for you, but there are miniatures in the room. Nice sized bath with shower and plenty of soft towels, plus there are robes for you to wear down to the spa area. Take flip flops or sliders with you. We went to the bar first in the evening and ordered cocktails, which were delicious and a nice treat, but they are £12 each.Make sure you pre-book your table in the restaurant before you arrive. I ordered from the set menu which was delicious, but portions were quite small and my daughter ordered from the bar menu. She returned her piri piri chicken as it was dry and the restaurant manager was very apologetic and offered her something else, but she said she was fine and he deducted it from our bill. Everything else was very good, including the service. We had a great night's sleep; the rooms have aircon but we opened the window as I prefer fresh air and it was a cooler night anyway. Breakfast was included in our Virgin Experience deal. We were shown to our table and asked if we wanted tea or coffee which was brought to the table. The breakfast is a buffet with English breakfast staples, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cereals and toast. The English breakfast items weren't very hot and we had to put the toast through the toast machine twice as it was anaemic the first time, We ordered pancakes to finish which were very good. I'd like to give a shout out to Stacey who was very helpful as we decided to take a short train ride into Reading and she told us how to get to the station (a very short walk) and how to navigate Reading Town Centre. The train journey takes 10 minutes (two stops) and a short walk down Station Road brings you out into the main town centre. We were offered a late check-out due to the non availability of any treatments, which enabled us to be able to pop into Reading and not have to rush back. Parking is complimentary with your stay. When you arrive, drive down to the car park entrance, press for a ticket and keep hold of it and they will validate it when you check in. All in all we had a pleasant stay, but bear in mind there is nothing else around as it's situated on an industrial estate.…
My friend bought me & my partner a spa break through virgin experience it included 55 minutes massage of your choice, dinner, breakfast, your stay and the use of the gym and swimming - when we turned up it’s just off the motorway so immediately I thought it’s going to be a noisy night but nope soon as we got in the room we couldn’t hear a thing. My massage was amazing, pool was clean, gym had good equipment. Dinner was nice 5 pound supplement for steak and breakfast was delicious.
