Hansi is a tiny town and so one wouldn't expect to find a really nice hotel here. But at the same time, if the hotel is crappy, the price ought to be low, and it's not. I paid Rs. 1200 here and the room was atrocious. The carpet was at least 20 years old, the door was locked with this huge makeshift bolt on the outside because the door lock didn't work, everything was old, ugly, unclean, and in a state of disrepair. My standards aren't especially high, either; I've stayed at countless hotels in India at this price or lower and this one was absolutely the worst. In fact, as I'm writing this, I'm paying less for a room in a nice place with WiFi surrounded by trees in a modern room in a luxury hotel where everything is spotlessly clean and works properly. The hotel manager openly asked for a Rp100 tip when I checked in. ("My reward!" he exclaimed.) I paid it because I didn't want any problems. The hotel is good hour walk to the main city, and it's not easy to hail auto rickshaws that far out, and there are zero bicycle rickshaws that far out. Hotel staff could call a taxi but I really wanted to interact with them as little as possible. When I was in town I found a crappy little hotel with rooms for only Rp300. Not any better than the Black Bird for sure, but at least you're paying accordingly, and you can stay right in town.
