We stayed in this heaven of peace for three days. Its private, nearly a sense of non commercial, very historic , yet much had been done to this beauty subtly and blending in to provide comfort and warmth. The hostess and staff welcoming and timless in that even they blend in with the setting. If I had been on my...

Lovely quirky accommodation at end of boardwalk in Cabanas. Worth a visit - fab views, lovely rooms, probably best suited to couples tho family rooms are available. Hostess Cecilia is very helpful. Private boat transfers across the Ria Formosa to Cabanas beach.

We are just about to return to this truly magical place for the 3rd time and thought I should share my thoughts, better late than never ! ! This is a truly enchanting place to stay managed by the wonderful Cecilia. From the second you drive up to the large historic gates of the fort you get the feeling that...

This hotel, a converted fort, is a historical gem. Beautiful grounds and setting, it has the potential to be an oasis in an otherwise overrun tourist destination. The rooms are tastefully designed, rustic modern, if basic (the mattress is not great but OK and the bathroom towels are tattered and should be replaced). The manager, Cecilia is lovely and helpful....

This real 17th century fort is a historic site in its own right — private and only accessible to lodging guests — combining the original structure plus historic buildings and artifacts (rusted canons, original well, many century trees, etc.) along with recently upgraded lodging. It’s ideally located on the river estuary opposite the very long Praia Cabanas beach. For anyone...

Perfection, spoiled by the extensive and omnipresent owner's family, who were staying at the time, and who treated the place like their vacation home (read crèche) and the - highly paying - guests like unwanted visitors. Business or family vacation home, they need to decide. Both in one is not an option.

I stayed in this fabulous hotel for 6 nights with my family (husband, 2 kids - 16 and 13), and two other families with teenagers. We loved everything about it. Whereas the Algarve coast is overbuilt and very busy in August, the Fort provides an oasis of calm and serenity, overlooking the river and the beach. The fort is spectacular,...

We stayed in two rooms during our ten-day stay at this superb old fort of a b&b nestled in a prime spot on the Algarve. The first room we stayed in was actually in the old house itself. The second in one of the modern blocks; which also has a mezzanine for another bed. We preferred the first room as...

The fortress has a great location, at the outskirt of Cabanas (so very quiet) but within a short walking distance from the restaurants. The rooms are tastefully decorated, although the modern wing has windows which directly face a wall (claustrophobes may be uncomfortable). The breakfast can be taken on the fortress terrace with a stunning view of the Ria, and...

Once you have found it, down a dusty bit of track, the imposing grey fort makes you wonder what you are in for. Ring the bell on a chain, and you are greeted by Cecilia, the friendliest host you are ever likely to encounter. Charming, helpful, welcoming, and her slight frame hides the strength to carry your bag for you...
