Small attention to detail could improve the Castle Inn. We stayed in the room with the four poster bed - someone had removed the frill round the top of the bed (as in the photo) and left it looking very bare. The room (Wentworth) is dark blue and desperately needs some warm touches such as a nice picture above the... More

We were really pleased to check in to our cosy room on a wet November day. The Mettingham is very attractively styled and has the bonus of a sofa where you can enjoy the contents of the generous tea tray. Both the bedroom and bathroom were spotlessly clean. Our evening meal was excellent with lots of choice on the menu... More

I visited for work but felt as though I was on holiday! My room was lovely, with a sofa, a fireplace and a delightful bathroom. The breakfast was excellent. Bungay itself is a gorgeous little town. I loved everything about this place except the fact I was only there for one brief night. I'd love to come back another time.... More

Needed a two night base in November. Booking.com advised us of a super deluxe room, evening meals and the impression of a cosy inn, ideal for dark, cold, Autumn evenings in an unfamiliar area. The reality was that following a phone call from the inn whilst we we travelling to ask our eta we were told that on Sundays, the... More

We went mid-week to this restaurant with family and friends. The fabulous selection on the menu meant that we struggled to choose items from the menu. In the end I plumped for the squash ravioli and pheasant main course and both were perfectly cooked and quite delicious. Service was friendly and swift. Prices for food and drink was very reasonable.... More

Lovely freshly cooked breakfast, made with local produce. Had mouldy toast though, just a little hiccup and it was rectified immediatley. Overall the breakfast was delicious, plenty of choice, and very hearty

Having found that all the teashops in Bungay seem to stop serving at 4pm we were very pleased when the boss of the Castle said he would be happy to serve us with a cup of tea and asked if we would like a scone or some cake. We both asked for a scone rather expecting a cold scone and... More

Been looking for this kind of lunch for too long in south Norfolk/north Suffolk and today we found it. Could have been transported to France. Wines by the carafe, a really varied menu from sandwiches to pork fillet with dauphinois potatoes or a platter of saucisson, salt beef, ham, three cheeses, home made chutney, olives, salad, hummus and crusty bread.... Following the recent comment by AA Gill in the Sunday Times we crossed over the border from Norwich and popped in to the Castle Inn after a walkabout around this lovely old market Town. And what a great find. On a hot day we sat in the shade of a magnificent Indian Bean Tree, choose from a menu which would... More
