The first night of the package is spent at the Comfort Inn and suites in Campbell River. We in fact stayed here 2 nights and were very satisfied. We then spent 4 nights at KIL The float plane journey was spectacular and the lodge is set up to make sure all the guests requirements are catered for.. The rooms were not luxurious but very comfortable and the food was plentiful and of good quality but not gourmet. As a vegetarian I was very well looked after. There are drinks and snacks available at all times. The daily activities were well organised and had the weather been better and the salmon come back it would have been wonderful. This of course is not the fault of KIL and they did their best to ensure our stay was memorable. The wet weather gear could have been better, I was soaked through on one 2 hour boat trip. It was disappointing not to see the bears fishing for salmon but we did see numerous bear from the shore. We also enjoyed a wonderful whale watching trip where the guide even recorded the whales sounds! Although the trip was not perfect I feel very privileged to have seen bears and whales in the complete wilderness.

we spent 5 nights (1 in Campbell River) and we enjoyed every minute. location: in a fjord called Knight Inlet, remote, far away from www and cell phones, just nature pure ! rooms: we had a room @ the corner, it was clean, rustic, cosy, spacious and had everything we needed cleanness: top, everywhere, all rooms (dining, gear, recreaction, you name it) and equipment ! staff: all people there, with no exception, are qualified, with huge knowledge of fauna & flora, nice, helpful F'n'B: full board, breakfast with live cooking and best salmon ever, lunch and dinner buffet style, absolutely delicious, happy hour with fantastic appetizers, free red and white wine with dinner, coffee, pops and snacks anytime available equipment: life jackets/vests, safe waterproof clothing, rubber boots, walking poles and binoculars are provided price-performance-ratio: absolutely fair, though it's not cheap, but worth every cent! plus: landscape, wildlife, employees, activities, F'n'B, riding shotgun in the seaplane minus: ??, nothing (no salmons in the rivers but that's not the fault of KIL) all told: a stay we'll never forget and we enjoyed every second and can absolutely recommend it. If possible have a minimum of 4 nights ( or more :-) ) We thank all the staff who made our trip an experience of a lifetime, also a "big hug" for the all the animals which we're able to see.

Thank you for your glowing review. It is gratifying to hear how much you enjoyed the lodge, wildlife and scenery of our area. Not sure we'll give the wildlife a "big hug" as they may not understand what we are doing! Great sentiment though.

We have just spent 4 nights at the lodge, what an amazing place. The only way in is by float plane, which was a bit cramped but its only a 30 minute flight. The lodge was very clean and comfortable, the rooms adequate, and well heated. You need to let the shower run for a while to get to temperature, but then it is lovely an hot after a day exploring. Each of the guides on tours were very informative, and your safety is their main concern. The people working here seem very passionate and make each trip a wonderful experience. You need to keep in mind that this is a wild experience, the wildlife appear as and when they want, some days are excellent, other times you may wait on a viewing platform for an hour plus and see nothing. Other times there were bears, eagles everywhere. Safe waterproof clothing, rubber boots, walking poles are provided, but do take warm clothing and hat as it can get cold whilst on the boats and platforms. Food, hot drinks, soft drinks, snacks and provided, also wine at dinner, but you need to pay for other alcoholic drinks. No tv, telephone or internet just nature at its best. Some guests only stay overnight, my advice is stay as long as you can, we stayed four nights, wish we had stayed longer. A BIG thank you to all the staff who made our trip an experience of a lifetime, also a HUGE hug for the bears who never failed to entertain.

Viewing wildlife is a unique experience for those of us lucky enough to experience it. The risk is that the wildlife does not 'perform' as expected. We were there at the end of August which was, we were told, a very good time to go but, this year, the salmon were late. We did see bears every day which was an incredible experience. The guides are brilliant - they are obviously dedicated and enjoy sharing the bear watching experience with guests. They are all very knowledgeable and will slip into the freezing water at a moments notice to get you a little closer to the wildlife. All packages start with one night in the Comfort inn at Campbell River - this is essential because of the early flight the following morning. Knight Inlet is only accessed by float plane which is a really great way to start your stay in the 'wilderness'. I was lucky enough to be the 'co-pilot' as we had a full plane. The thirty minute flight passed in no time. The flights run to a strict schedule subject to the weather. One reason for this is so bears get used to the comings and going by air and do not take fright. The Lodge has about 20 rooms - the rooms numbered 9-16 offer sea views but you will not spend much time admiring it from your room! The rooms are all the same -they are quite spacious with basic comforts. There are two queen beds and a relatively small but functional bathroom. We slept well - it was more than fit for purpose. It is a very full on schedule to give guests the maximum opportunity to see bears and other wildlife including eagles, kingfishers etc. There are two basic tours - one from a boat along the shoreline and another from a Bear Stand. There were another six tours when we were there including bear tracking to exploring the rain forrest. The whole area is inhabited by bears so you are advised constantly by your guide to be 'bear aware'. All activities run to a strict timetable but you are not obliged join a tours if you would prefer to stay at the Lodge. We did a three night package (two nights at the lodge) which meant we were unable to take the Whale watching trip. This was a disappointment and I do not think we appreciated that the time of booking. The food is okay, there is plenty of it and it is nutritious. It is a self service 'set menu' with two options at dinner time. They do cater for special diets and there are also mid meal snacks and never ending tea, coffee and chocolate. We received a comprehensive introduction note and questionaire from the lodge before we got there and they specifically asked about medication, allergies, disabilities etc. I have been lucky enough to go on other 'wilderness experiences' and so have good comparisons in rating this 'very good'. The three night package was right for me (although I would have added another night for the whale watching). I met people who return year aft year which says a lot for the lodge.

Thank you for taking the time to review our lodge. it is too bad that you did not stay longer to go whale watching as that is a great option on the 4 night package.
