The Hualongcun Hotel is set in a park complex and is architecterally styled in the traditional sense - lots of wood and detailed painting making it very pleasing to the eye. Check in was handled by our tour guide - a grasp of basic Mandarin phrases would be an advantage if checking in without backup, as naturally the location of this hotel would indicate it is geared more for the national market. We later failed in organising a laundry request but this was purely down to our poor pronunciation!

Having checked in, our twin room was clean and comfortable, with low beds and good a/c. The windows aren't the best though, and noise can be heard from groups exiting the restaurant opposite. Robust in-room wi-fi a bonus.

The hotel bar is a tea bar but the staff were quite happy for us to purchase beer from the small shop located in the reception area - in turn, the shopkeeper was happy for us to chill the cans we had purchased prior to arrival in her fridge, as the minibar...
