Stayed for two nights, including meals. The service was very good indeed, the food, well. The waiting staff all had a good sense of humour and were (apart from one breakfast) very efficient and friendly. The food. I can't think of better meals I have had anywhere outside my mums Sunday roast. The menu is a tad 'gamey' - no surprise, considering the hunting shooting fishing that goes on all round, but one or two lighter options would be welcome. The rooms, though not huge, were well appointed and spotless, whilst the walk in showers were simply wonderful. Our only gripe was the heat - something mentioned elsewhere on this site. It was simple too hot everywhere and apart from sleeping with the windows open, there wasn't much that could be done about it. That said, I'd definately

Went here for wedding anniversary and was very impressed. We had dinner and drinks in the evening. There seemed to be a lot of staff and they were very attentive. I thought the menu was very good (although I am a vegetarian and do like a choice of main meals whereas there was just one veggie main course); I had a starter (a delicious, substantial salad) and (great!) chips and a really interesting pudding. As it was a Saturday the place was very busy, mostly with people eating although there were a few drinkers. The fact that it was packed is testament to its quality, Breakfast was fantastic too. I thought all the staff were very friendly and my only criticism of the whole weekend is that, as others have pointed out, our bedroom was too hot. I tried to turn the heating

My husband and I stayed at the Crown on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th October. We were having a couple of nights away as a "babymoon", some quiet time relaxing, just for the two of us before our first baby arrives in January. The idea was that we would have a lovely quiet place to retreat to when I felt tired - which is a lot of the time when you're seven months pregnant! - where we would read and I would snooze. Arriving on Sunday afternoon the hotel itself was very nice, decorated and furnished to a high standard. Our room was clean and the bathroom big and airy, however, the room was stiflingly hot. We looked in the info book and found the underfloor heating could be adjusted from the panel on the wall, but the heating was off, so we couldn't understand why it was so hot.

The Crown is in the centre of the beautiful village of Stoke-by-Nayland, in the heart of Constable Country and the Stour Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The main building that houses the restaurant is many centruies old and we stayed in the hotel at the rear of the site for 4 nights in a ground floor room. Views around the hotel are lovely and there are lots of interesting walks locally. As a new hotel decorations and furnishings were in very good order and the room's design extremely tasteful. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was lovely with a large walk-in shower, basin and WC. We have deducted points, however, because the room got VERY hot and, although there was a fan on the desk, the only truly useful form of ventilation was by opening the
