This hotel was definitely a highlight for our European trip. We spent three nights here. Like others have said the physical hotel is pretty good, but its the atmosphere that makes this place. If there are other travelers in the hotel you have to eat the dinner- we met some wonderful people and stayed up late into the night talking.... More

If you are looking for the charm of the Alps, good conversation and a slower pace this is the place. It is not the Ritz. Walter and Tim make you feel like a welcome guest in their home. Meals are family style where you swap stories of the days experiences and tomorrow's plans late into the night. The location is... More

We loved our stay here. Yes, we found it via Rick Steves and so all the other guests had done the same, but this one is a keeper. Gimmelwald is a tiny hamlet amidst the Bernese Alps, with an incredible sweep of view across the valley to a mountain wall covered with cataracts. The gondola ride up from the valley... More

Gimmelwald has a population of about 50. There's not much here... If you are looking for the party scene or to go clubbing at the discotheke, gimmelwald is not your place. If you want a breathtaking veiw, a peace that only comes (at least for me) in the alps, and some neat people, this is your place. Be on time... More

Yes, almost everyone there knew it from Rick Steves and most were fellow Americans, but we had a fantastic time talking with our fellow travelers each night over dinner. I would love to be back there. The Mittaghorn is a wonderfully simple place to spend the evenings after days spent in awe of the Jungfrau region.

We actually traveled in October of 2011 but can no longer select that option. One night was not even close to enough. Not sure it would be my teenager's favorite thing to do, but it was one of the most romantic, cozy little places I have ever been and it topped my list of things we did for a month... More

There are not enough wonderful things to say about our charming stay at Hotel Mittaghorn. Tim was an incredible host- giving us helpful information about hikes, activities and the region. We loved the cozy feel that the hotel provided and especially enjoyed the community with the other guests. We shared stories and laughter over breakfast and dinner which led to... More

This place is unlike any other!!! Our time in Gimmelwald was lovely and one of the favorite stops on our trip. Very rustic hotel with years of love and character. Walter and Tim were great hosts and we loved the homemade dinner from Walter we enjoyed each evening. The view from our balcony took our breath away and we would... More

I really can't add much more than what has already been said (raved about!) in the previous reviews. We traveled a month in Europe and our 2 nights/3 days here were the most amazing part of our trip. Wonderful, worn, creaky, alpine hotel. Great food and dinner guests. Interesting hosts. All surrounded by some the most stunning mountain scenery anywhere.

Got a little skeptical when my husband booked at this hotel for our 2 days stay in the Alps cause I saw some pictures online and it was not that impressed. But it ends up to be the most memorable place of our Europe vacation. Walter is a very good cook and it is worth every penny. We ended up... More
