Dates: July 11-12, 2015 (delayed input) Can’t begin to describe the beauty of our stay at Hotel Mittaghorn! Magical at night hearing the beautiful cow bells in the background as they move about below our open windows. Not another sound out except the distant waterfalls. The cool mountain air was most refreshing and the outline of the Jungfrau, always there!...

Many thanks for the review, even if it is a little delayed! Prospective guests should note that the Mittaghorn is B&B only for the last couple of years, and that we no longer serve dinner. Many thanks, Tim

It's not often that I would give 4 stars (aka a rating of "Very Good") to a place that has community bathrooms, but Hotel Mittaghorn is different. It is old with creaky floors and showers that are run by inserting 1 Franc for 5 minutes of hot water. It's just a rustic old building, but that's really not a bad...

We really appreciated tim's advice for hikes and everything else--he is a wealth of information on local farming practices and paragliding. We enjoyed his showing videos of his paragliding adventures. The hotel is creaky and old but we liked it anyway. The village is pleasant and fun to walk through and less touristy than other nearby towns. Dinners at the...

We spent 4 nights here and enjoyed our stay. The balcony rooms are fantastic, ask for room 7 or 8, which are the top rooms with balconies (under the word "HOTEL" in the photos). Who cares about the creaky floors or thin walls when you can wrap yourself in a wooly blanket and look at that VIEW? Tim is a...

This place was recommended to us by the Rick Steves book. We were drawn to Uncle Rick's description of the hotel...described as bare-bones and wholly authentic. We wanted a rustic stay while in Switzerland, so this description matched what we wanted. When we arrived in Gimmelwald, we found that the Mittaghorn was exactly as described. Hotel Mittaghorn is simply an...

If you'd like to experience the remote serenity and breathtaking scenery of living (temporarily) in the Swiss Alps, then stay here. This original guest house is authentic right down to the hand-carved bedroom furniture and worn-smooth stairwell railing. Located near the top of the village of Gimmelwald the views from your window are superior and you will be lulled to...

Although in no way luxurious, the mountain views from the rooms are incredible, the hotel is clean, authentic and great value. If that wasn't enough, what really made it for us was the English manager Tim. He was tireless in helping us make the most of our time in Gimmelwald: local expert and historian, tour guide, translator of Swiss culture...

My family stayed at Hotel Mittaghorn during June 2016. The inn is exactly as described on the website and in the excellent communications that arrive from the manager, Tim, in the course of making reservations. Gimmelwald and the hiking above Gimmelwald are as spectacular as the online photos suggest. Tim is incredibly knowledgeable about the remarkable hiking options, at which...

Tim, a native English-speaker who helps manage the hotel for parts of the year, was a phenomenal host, and I hope he continues to afford the time to brighten what is already a top-notch experience in this peaceful mountain village. Though a bit of a journey to get there (bus from Lauterbrunnen, cable car up from the valley, followed by...

Gimmelwald is a wonderfully peaceful village in a beautiful setting and the Hotel Mittaghorn sits on the "upper road" and has wonderful views and fantastic hiking right from the hotel. My family really enjoyed our stay and was not bothered by the "pay for 5 minutes" showers or the noise or creakiness of the place. We enjoyed talking with Tim...
