We stayed there for one night. The lift wasn’t working and we had to carry our luggages in the third floor. The room were big (and you have a nice view of the mountains) but the towels were smelling horrible. It was very very hot in the room during the night. The breakfast was very light.
Two things save this hotel from being characterized as Terrible, the cleanliness in our rooms and the breakfast. A short glance into the kitchen was a sharp warning not to have dinner at this place. There was a dog walking in and out of every room, including the kitchen. There was dirty laundry on the floor, and there was a very unpleasant odor meeting you as you entered the hotel. The smell of old food, bad ventilation, no open windows... We were hardly offered any kind of service when needed. It seemed like we were standing in the way of the old woman running the business, like she didn't realize we represented her income. The parking lot became a problem. We were "parked in" twice, and to avoid that, we had to leave our car somewhere else. With rooms on the 3rd floor (2nd in French and British standards) we had no wifi in our rooms. I travel a lot, and I have tried several different hotels and hostels. Never have I paid so much for so little. I found this hotel at "Hotels.com". I recommend that they remove it from their site.…
Great hotel as a base if you are planning to do the Furka, Gothard, Grimsal, Susten, Nufuen passes. Rooms are functional, and are warm, with good temperature control. The shower was excellent, great pressure and temperature control, the only thing to watch out is the big step to get in and out. I had dinner there as well, with a limited choice, but what they did, they did it very well. Breakfast start at 7.30, but the owners was ok for me to have it earlier. She also lended me the use of a charger for my phone. Great family run hotel. Definitely recommend.
A group of 12 of us stayed here for 2 nights. We arrived on motorcycles soaked through to the skin after a really wet day and we could not have been made more welcome. The hotel is family owned and it shows, nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is a little dated in appearance but that is very soon forgotten when you get inside and meet the family. the food was fantastic, the bar was fantastic and the views were fantastic. Very highly recommended.
We stayed here for 3 nights as part of a cycling trip in Switzerland and it was fantastic. It is brilliantly located to get out to the Nufenen and Furka passes. The rooms are clean, quiet and spacious. The views are simply outstanding and Hilde is the perfect host. The Restaurant was very good too. We normally try to eat at different locations, but the food was so good we ate there two of the three nights we were staying. (The salmon & local pasta was exceptional). I would thoroughly recommend staying there and very much hope we will be back again.
I thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Walliser Soone! We had a very last minute change to our plans and were extremely grateful to the hosts who were able to fit us in for a 2 night stay. When we arrived we received a really warm welcome by the hostess. The hotel is very homely and welcoming, the rooms although they don’t have particularly great décor our room was clean and comfortable, with a fantastic shower. We also had a large balcony with view of the mountains! For the money I really couldn’t fault it. The location is great if you have a car, we took a trip to the Rhone Glacier which wasn’t far at all, and then also drove to Sehen & Verstehen (Blatten), from there we went on a brilliant hike, although the weather wasn’t great the views were incredible, and at the very top is a hotel and café, which is quite extraordinary considering how steep a climb it is. We didn’t eat at the hotel other than the breakfast, which was a lovely continental breakfast with plenty of options and generous amounts. I would have happily stayed longer had we not be on route to Zermatt. I would happily recommend this hotel for a cheap stay.…
The hotel is situated in a small hamlet set back off the valley road. It is a family run establishment and a warm welcome greats you. It has plenty of meeting rooms and a small bar. It is an unpretentious place that offers great value for money in very expensive Switzerland! Our bedrooms were large and adequate with fairly modern clean bathrooms. Breakfast buffet was plentiful.
The booking had been already friendly and easy by e-mail with Peter Paul, member of the family who manage this Hotel Restaurant. Arriving, we are welcomed by Hylde, gentle and showing us immediatly the motorcycles park to protect them from a possible rain. Then, we discover the large and clean room with twin beds in good condition, The bathroom is also clean, large and well furbished. A large terrass with table and 2 seats provides magnificent landscapes on snowed mountains and country side. We ask for any opportunity to have a dinner in Gluringen. She provides some adresses and suggests we could eat in place, large room with a fire place she will start for us. We are only two guys for this night and 3 menus are suggested with, soup, vegetables saled and one alternative, wonderfull macaronis creamy and ham, or pork with french fries, both will be great and tasty, and one I don't remember. All of that will be prepared only for us by Paul, young guy, he will be the chief, the wood logistician for the fire place and the web engineer for the weak wifi, a one man show accurate in all fields. Wines offer is OK , choice, prices, great. The breakfast will be impressive also for two clients, full choice on the buffet, high quality standard also. Very nice place, family feeling, we recommand this place. The prices can look high because they are, but we are in Switzerland, and nothing is cheap in this country, compared to France, Germany and Italy. Walliser Sonne is at the market prices, and her the market prices are very high.…
We were delayed several hours by a road closure (snow - in late May) and we arrived after the proprietor had retired. Nevertheless, he was delighted to see us and greeted us warmly. All the local restaurants were closed and we hadn't eaten yet, but he opened the kitchen and prepared a quick meal for us. We had a good nights sleep and awoke to sunrise over the Alps. The hotel served a great breakfast, we enjoyed a walk through the town, and when we checked out I was surprised to see he'd charged us an absurdly low price for the special meal he'd prepared the night before.
