This is quite an amazing place to visit with continuous habitation for about 900 years. There are some interesting displays and it's a self guided visit. We turned up at 4.30 and the place closes at 5. I can't say we were exactly welcomed one of the attendants certainly gave the impression she would rather be at home with a...

I have visited Traquair House on a number of occasions but on this trip home from New Zealand with my husband and daughter with her family we stayed in the White Room and the Blue Room. The staff were amazing and so were the rooms, lots of space and everything you could want. We had dinner at the 1745 Restaurant...

We spent a good 4 hours here with young children -- there is a lot to do! There are lots of things to do, including an excellent maze, a small children's playground, a very short walk and a couple of craft shops. We couldn't really see how we could look round the brewery but the guy in the beer shop...

We were treated like royalty from the moment of arrival. The rooms are in keeping with the whole house/castle and with period furniture, paintings etc. Kim the house keeper has an amazing personality and really went the extra mile to make sure everything about breakfast and our stay was perfect. Older places may not be to everyone's, liking however i...

As a mixed group ( children and adults) we spent the afternoon at the Medevil Festival at Traquir House. It was a great afternoon and all the people taking part were very pleasant and informative. The jousting was the highlight of the trip and not to be missed if you make it along next year. The actors really worked the...

We just left the coolest place on earth, at least if you like old Scottish estates, history, and stuff like that. I’m referring to a little piece of history in the south of Scotland called Traquair House. The oldest part of the house was built in 1107 as a hunting lodge for the kings and queens of Scotland, and it’s...

My husband and I have just had an amazing one might stay at traquair in the White room. From the moment we arrived Kim the housekeeper could not have been more welcoming. The house is stepped in history and very enchanting, the food made by Kim was exceptional. We had the lower drawing room to ourselves on the night we...

Recommended by the owners of the B and B where we were staying in Melrose this was a delightful find. The house is immaculate with a mass of interesting features, furniture, paintings and ornaments most with Scottish connections. Information cards in each room were informative and the whole house was quite compact and manageable. The brewery tasting room and the...

A superb day out. Traquair House is full of history. It is suitable for all ages with Priests stairs and loads of nooks and crannies to explore. Is very well set up for the visitor and the staff and guides are helpful and welcoming. The Maze is excellent with a twist not just a conventional maze! The craft shops are...
