The hostel host was fantastic and knew everything about the island, so ask her if you want any tips or have any questions. Great location, close to supermarkets and souvenir shops and bus stops, as well as Miyanoura Port. Everything stops running on the island at around 6pm for hikes, so I found that most people at the hostel (including...

Thank you for staying with us and the great review! we are really glad that you had great time in the island and with us! The island life is just different as 'city' life. go to bed earlier than usual then up earlier than usual. You definitely has a healthy life ;) We hope you could come back here the...

This is the best youth hostel I've stayed at in my time in Japan. The location is very convenient, less than ten minutes walk from Miyanoura Port and five minutes from a supermarket, tourist centre and bus stops. The price, at ¥3,600 for non Youth Hostel Association members, is more expensive than other hostels across Japan, but the facilities are...

This is a basic, no frills hostel very close to Miyanoura Port and the bus station. I really liked this hostel because the staff member, Shuko, was extremely helpful. She spent a lot of time looking at maps and bus timetables with me and telling me which hiking routes were the best for the things I wanted to see. She...

This is a brilliant place to stay in Miyanoura. It's probably the best hostel I have stayed in whilst travelling for 8 weeks in Japan. The staff are wonderful and really work hard to make this a great place to stay. It's spotlessly clean, and really comfortable. The dorm rooms are spacious with just four beds, then a large tatami...

The location of the youth hostel is great, its very clean and spacious (doesn't feel too cramped), but above all the lady at the front was one of the most helpful Ive met. she was friendly and really wanted to help everyone around and promote the island. She led us to some places rarely seen and visited by people and...

I was so pleased with this hostel, good location 5 min walk from the port, really clean rooms, and lovely staff! It is a bit expensive, especially for dorms. But it seems the whole of yakushima is expensive, I believe it's the cheapest accomdation on the island. Beautiful terrace overlooking the harbour, a selection of restaurants nearby. Highly recomend!

Located just at the harbour where most ferries arrive, the Portside Youth Hostel is quite conveniently located. We had our stay pre-booked, and were shown the ropes by the friendly owner, who also explained the bus system and timetable (who he has very helpfully printed on A4 sheets). He also had hiking suggestions and was super-helpful! Rooms are big and...

Arriving to Yakushima, this is probably the most visited guesthouse, however in my opinion it is better to move along the coast to a smaller city or village to get much cheaper rates and even better sleep. MPYH is simple, clean, but no thrill as well. 3-4* The owner has good info and great english, but it is better to...

Great Place! Quiet, clean and great information about hiking in the mountains. the Ofuro is especially awesome after hiking. It is a bit quiet after hours but then again you'll be so tired from hiking/cycling/running around and/or generally enjoying the island that you won't care. But if you did there's some nice izakaya down the road too!

Having stayed at YH Miyanoura once before, there was no question about our choice when we returned to Yakushima for a second visit.
