We stayed one night in Benesse House and one night in Oval .......the greatest place I've stayed. The natural beauty of the Inland Sea is breath-taking, the 4-man funicular railway adds a touch of 007, the art us superb, and to spend a whole weekend in Tadao Ando is a true treat. The food in the museum restaurant and at...

Nao-shima is a tiny island in the Inland Sea off Honshu, the major island in Japan. To reach there, it takes about 3 hours by Shinkan-sen (the bullet train) from Tokyo to Okayama. Then from Okayama , about a 40 minutes taxi ride to a pier where one can get on a ferry to Nao-shima. The ferry is modern and...

I totally recommend to go to Naoshima and the surrounding islands if you are an art lover. But be prepared that the Benesse House is quite expensive. They have four different places, we stayed in "Park" which is one of the cheapest. The layout of the rooms is very good, with lots of wood. Since the walls/floors are thin, opt...

We visited this museum and stayed at the museum/hotel in November of 2016. The outside spaces are stunning, the outside sculpture is interesting, and the views of the Inland Sea are wonderful. Inside, the art is not so much to my taste (but that's personal). The hotel rooms are wonderfully equipped and fit with very nice, artistic furniture, but the...

If possible get an update to the beach rooms, Plan on having dinner only one night in the restaurant because the menu does not change. There is no room service but the view is so good you would forget about eating

Naoshima was without a doubt one of the highlights of my trip to Japan. It does take a while to get to Naoshima but it is absolutely worth it. I only stayed one night but wished I had stayed for two in order to enjoy the hotel and grounds a little more and also to do things at a more...

I'm not sure where to even begin on this one.. This place and island are super special and added up to one of the best experiences in my life. First off, we were lucky enough to book a suite in the Oval. I think it was room 402. There are only 6 rooms in this area of the hotel which...

What an amazing experience to visit Naoshima and stay at Benesse House. They have combined art, great modern architecture and the best of Japanese hospitality. There are two complexes. The Museum and The Oval are adjacent. Up the hill and more expensive. The Park and the The Beach are a bit more casual and would be the better option for...

At the end of a long trip, with authentic cultural experiences, it may be a long trip to get to Benesse House but it is so worth it. Even the Park section, the most affordable, is lovely. Others have criticized the halls for Scuff marks, I suggest you will not even notice. While there does seem to be a bit...

My daughter and I have made reservations to stay 2 nights in the Oval at Benesse in July, 2016. I have a few questions:

1. When I booked on the website, it stated that breakfast is included in the room rate for Oval rooms. Is that correct? If that is the case, should I just mark "no" for breakfast when I make the meal selections? Is the breakfast in a separate section for people staying in the Oval rooms or is it in the main restaurant by the Park?

2. I read that dining choices are very limited on the island, so I have gone ahead and reserved one dinner in the French restaurant and one dinner in the Japanese restaurant for my 2 night's stay. However, I would also like to see the "Open Sky" night show one of the evenings. I will be staying on the weekend. My concern is in July, I believe the show will end around 8:15-8:30 pm, but the latest dinner reservation time slot is 8 pm. What are my options?

3. During our time on Naoshima Island, we are thinking of taking the ferry to Teshima Island and spend a few hours there. How easy is it to make that trip? How much time should I plan to spend on Teshima?

4. We will be using our Rail Pass to get to Okayama station. How much time should we give ourselves to go from Okayama station to Naoshima, then from Naoshima back to Okayama station? Is it easy to find the right trains/transfer/ferry? I have read the island's website, but am still a bit confused.

5. Once we get to Naoshima, do we have the option to stow our luggage, if the room is not ready yet?

Thank you for in advance for any insight!
