We stayed one night in this temple and really enjoyed our stay. The temple is beautiful, a little set back from the road (so feels more private than some of the other temples). The atmosphere is very relaxing. The monks are very polite and helpful. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The food, and the room where the food was...

I made reservations for Fudoin nearly a year before my long-awaited trip to Koyasan, and based on my experience, it will be my first choice on my next visit! An easy bus ride from Koyasan Station, Fudoin is nearly directly across the street from the Rengedani bus stop. You’ll face a bit of a steep uphill hike to reach the...

I stayed in two different temples while visiting Koya-san, and this one was my favorite. After disembarking from the cable car, the helpful staff at the station told me which bus to board. The stop for Fudoin was #8 followed by a slightly hilly walk up the temple's driveway. Despite being early, the friendly and helpful staff got me situated...

This old temple complex is for a big part nicely renovated but stil keeping the historical atmosphere, with a Greta and quite garden. The room is simple but very clean The bathing facities are very Well kept. The food that is being served, veganistic, is truly excellent, a real gastronomique experience. Great and friendly service

My parents and I had an incredible overnight stay at Fudou-in. No complaints at all. The pictures online don't accurately represent the beauty and tranquility of the temple. We stayed in a room with a private toilet, which I do recommend. Otherwise, there are shared bathrooms. The weather was quite cold when we visited. The hallways and common areas are...

The dinner and breakfast were both superb. Dinner and breakfast were both served in sho-jin ryori style; superb Japanese vegetarian cuisine. We were a bit surprised though to see that some of our fellow (foreign) guests did not entirely finish their meals. Before dinner we took a bath in the dedicated area as is expected from guests. Not that they...

I am staying at the Fudoin Temple at least twice a year for several days. The meals, the gracious monks are praised by everybody I have met there. But above all temples are religious places. So maybe you prepare a little bit for the morning service. At the end of the service everybody is invited to participate in chanting the...

Mount Koya or Koyasan (Wakayama Prefecture) is a beautiful area to visit during August. This was Day 3 of my small group tour of Japan. It is the spiritual home of the headquarters of the Koyasan sect of Shingon Buddhism, a faith with a large following in Japan. Mount Koya is the home to a collection of ancient temples, shrines...

This temple stay was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. We spent two nights here and enjoyed the outstanding vegan breakfasts and dinners as well as the temple service both mornings we were there. The monks were very gracious, the rooms were simple and beautiful and the trip there from Kyoto, while lengthy ( 3-4 hours), well...
