Monkey Rider was a basic, good value hostel at the base of Echoland Main Street. Great location for buses to the slopes. Staff were friendly and very accommodating. They took us to get snow boots and past the ski hire shop to save us walking. The kitchen was well equipped if you wanted to cook or there were many restaurants...

The Monkey Rider is more like a large house than a hostel. It has a real homely feel. Everyone that works there treats you like a guest in their home. We had a triple room however my partner and I didn’t have to share the room with anyone. The room we got didn’t have an ensuite which was fine as...

We stayed in a private room with two single beds and ensuite. So cheap and was just we we were after. Warm, cosy, clean. Tony and his lovely wife and kids run the show from behind the scenes and are so welcoming, kind and helpful. Full of ozzies and great fun to be had. Definitely recommend. I believe it may...

Me and my friends spent 3 of the best weeks of our lives here at Monkey Rider in Hakuba. The facilities are simple, but has got everything you need. The host, Tony, is fantastic and helped us with everything possible. He was even willing to share some of his favorite skiing-spots! The hostel is located very close to a bus-stop,...

I am currently staying here as I do my Ski instructor training and its a great B&B! Tony, the aussie owner is a really nice guy, able to take people to various locations round Hakuba if need be. Very trendy communal living area and very nearby to a little high street with shops and restaurants.

We stayed for a week during peak snow season in a twin room with a bathroom. The facilities were clean and pretty spacious for Japan, with plenty of room for all our stuff and a deep bath/shower. There was airconditioning (that we didn't use) and heating (which we did use), super warm blankets really comfy beds. Breakfast in the morning...

I stayed at the MonkeyRider for a month with 10 mates of mine. We discovered it was perfectly located right near the heart of echoland, Hakuba. It's within walking distance (with skis or board) to multiple bus stops allowing you access to all the mountains without having to change at the Happo Bus Station. The Apres skiing was also great,...

With the lack of central heating, I often have the problem of being too cold at guesthouses in Japan. However, at Monkey Rider, it was warm everywhere--in the halls, dining room and bathrooms. In our twin room, we actually had to turn the heater off at night since it was so cozy. The room was spacious, as was the living...
