I decided to travel to a part of Japan that seems to be further away from the usual Western travel routes than I thought judging by the small number of non-Asian travellers. There is some unspoilt and serene nature in Hida. Some of the reed-roofed houses are over 200 years old and there is opportunity to visit some of them...

Pros - Easy walk from Nohi bus station to/from Kanazawa or Takayama/Nagoya. Small onsen but with both indoor and outdoor sections and good public shower area. Authentic Japanese dinner with grilled Hida beef as highlight and breakfast with grilled fish, plus all-u-can-eat rice which my older son loves! Our Beech room got lovely view of the river with ducks swimming...

Visited just the Onsen. Nice and clean, good price and outside bath was wonderful. Receptionist didn't speak English, but there was a machine to buy entrance to the onsen. Would like to stay again but as a hotel guest.

It was quiet and not crowded adding to the charm of the village. Lots of pictures with the Gassho houses and played in the snow. Bought...

When I arrived , the receptionist was not helpful in providing local tour related information . Subsequently in the evening , when me and my friends enquired the dinner opening time of the restaurant, the rudeness of the front desk staff who kept pounding on the table was so unappreciated. However it gave us no choice but to dine at...

We arrived in Shirakawago by bus from Kanazawa. The hotel is an easy walk from the station. It was cold and rainy so we were grateful they had our room ready early and we could stash our luggage, run around taking pictures until our fingers froze and return to their marvelous onsen. The staff couldn't have been more friendly and...

Great location for an overnight stay at World Heritage village Ogimachi. Good food and fantastic onsen including outdoor tubs looking out over a river. Rooms were clean and comfortable, and service was friendly. Highly recommend.
