Went there because everything was full (Bourail fair). Rooms are the same as it was when I was a teen... 25 years ago. Had nice huge insects in the room (mosquitoes, cockroaches, etc.). Noisy neighbors, smoking people around (strong smell inside). Not safe with young kids as the is a river very close to the rooms. Very outdated, very basic... More

We stayed one night at "aux delices de la cigogne" 5km north of Bourail. It was terrible with aggressive barking dogs on arrival, cigarette smell in the rooms and unfriendly staff. For the second night we chose El Kantara. It was the same price as the first place but with friendly staff, good location and air con. Bring mosquito repellant.... More

It's very unpopular in this hotel, we stayed because all the other was full otherwise I would have never slept there. It is unacceptable to receive such guests like that. Do not go there many other better thing next to.

Despite its attractions, New Caledonia is just not set up for tourists, at least in the way many modern travellers expect. I stayed here in Oct 11 for three nights with my family and we loved the homely atmosphere and quiet pace of the place. The rooms are basic, but clean, and the restaurant served simple New Caledonian French food.... More

Like a fair few other places in New Caledonia with El Kantara you pay a quite a lot for not much. The whole place felt like it hadn't really been touched for years (except for the new tv). The room was pretty basic, and felt quite crammed with a double bed and two singles, although the double bed was nice... More

We stayed at the El Kantara in January1982; reading these reviews it seems nothing has changed. The place was in a desperate need of new paint when we were there, at that time, the white interior walls were almost black. And there were vast numbers of mosquitos and huge cockroaches everywhere. We ate at the El Kantara's restaurant. The food... More
